Clark, as the candi date or the Democratic party for Tax Receiver. Having promised to abide the docislon of that convention, and having received the highest number of votes, (for which he is truly grate ful to his friends,) he will now make the race In apite of any movement In opposition. Ho is a poor man, it in true, but he Is competent to fill the office, and will, if elected, to the en tire satisfaction of the people. His claims are many and worthy, and any plan to draw him oil’, "f the race, became he is a poor Man, wilt only meet with failnre, as he is bound to run— and that’s what’s the matter with Hannah. The Menthwest Nmbmrbn. Ws enjoyed a ride through the southwestern portion of the city and suburbs, one day last week, and were quite surprised at the march of improvement since last spring, when the sales of city and private lots were made. Some forty or fifty houses have been com pleted or are under way. Everything gives evidence of the industry aud thrift of the residents. Success to them in their under taking. W* drove by the nursery of Mr. B. H. Wrigley, and noticed three men busily engaged in planting and preparing to plant frnit trees of which Mr. W. tells us he will have every variety. He has employed a Nur seryman direct from Scotland, who thoroughly understands his business. We catno at last to the place of Mr. Daniel Milne and found him delving in the rich soil leisurely setting ent rose slips for the next spring. He showed as some excellent peach tree* all ready for trans planting which he will sell very reasonable, in comparison with what they want for the same in the Northern States. Ha told us he had bean very successful in the dispssitlou of ills strau berry vines but had a few more left. fitray Bit*. The city is out of coal. Col. H. J. Lamar’s smokehouse was robbed on last Thursday of a lot of home made sau sages. The street* arc still muddy, and curses, both loud and deep, are heard occasionally. Lessoning the number of stars—reducing the police force. As soon as the sun came eut this morning, there waa a great rush of ladies to Brown & Ce’s for holiday gifts. The P. and I. came out yesterday from be hind his mask battery and told the truth. Car ry the news to Hiram. The new Chief of Polico take* charge next Tuesday. See notice of Good Teraular’s meeting on Monday night. The show last night brought out a pretty good house. The Kuklux perambulated the streets to-<ly In nniform. A man of scenta—a near-lighted guano in spector. Dr. 8. D. Everett’s Oriental Cough Balsam has attained such a popularity by its real merit that he has to have it on aale at the several drug store* of our city. It Is s good thlug. THE MAYOR’S COI/TKT. ■ ON. W. A. BUST PEESIBUG. The flret offender under the new regime was a brick-colored bundle of calico aud femiulaity who titles herself Henrietta Johnson. She tqld a strange story in which s nice ysusg man figures prominently; she lsdd bare her wrongs and Towad most emphatically that 'she knowed nnfflu about it." The substance of the “disclosure#” was that the nice yonng man had given her an order on one of onr shoe dialers for a pair of shoes, which read like thus: Dec. 21, nsr. pleas stlow The girl to bav A pear of abuse. The order story seemed too thiu, because the signature wss not genniue, neither waa the or der written as the accused young man generally wrote. Upon hearing this she said she thought it was him, but couldn't swear to it Just as the words, “$lO and costs," were about to be written oppoelte her name oi the docket, when a black bordered handkerchief, bearing the name of another nice yonng maul appeared on the scene. The court, on reading the name, pat on his most eolema looks, but there was fan in his eye. This startling affair put a ntw aspect on the matter, and the case was contin ued. Minnie Au9tin was arraigned ou a charge of stealing, but no poeitive proof being brought against her, she was discharged. Dava Williamson wss then brought up on the chsrge of larceny after truat. It was s small and trivial affair, and Dave goes on his way rejoicing. Eisb at Ells & Laney. A Lucky Mam. Mr. Thos. Willingham, Jr., i* the luckiest man we know of. Tsaterday he received a sure preventive for coughs, colds, fever and ague, and all disease* that the tinman family are sub ject to. It waa a pair of boots, the best we have ever aeen. APVKIITISEMF.NTS SOLICITED. CAREY W. STYLES, Proprietor. 80 Till; I'KLinil M WEEKLY. IT is universally conceded that advertising is a necessity to success in business; it is also aonceded, by the shrewdest business men, that newspapers are the bust medium for reaching all parties whose trade is desired. THE MONItOE ADVERTISER reaches more of the people trading with Ma con tliun uny other Journal published in the country; it is, therefore, the best medium of communication with the planting interests. We will bo happy at any time to furnish refer ences to leading merchants here and elsewhere, who will testify to the fact that they have re ceived orders for goods from parties who read their curds in The Advertiser. In fact, many who have availed themselves of its columns, candidly say that Us value exceeds that of ull other journals in which they are represented The Advertiser has the freshness of youtli and tlic ripeness of age, aud is therefore deservedly successful. CHARACTER OK ADVERTISEMENTS No advertisements are admitted wbioli are not believed to be above question and of real value, and from parties so unquestionably re liable that the readers of The Advertiser will he safe in ordering them from any distance. To our readers, the fact of its appearance here bus all the weight of endorsement and authority. Address, JAB. I*. HARRISON, Forsyth. Georgia. Change of Schedule.
