A Mixed Fight.
Bridge Row is getting its name up as a fight
ing locality. No sooner had the family fight,
mentioned yesterday. “ n( ’ l “ cr ’
finally as mixed occurred, throwing that part
if the city into considerable excitement, fhe
light occurred just below the railroad bridge
it the foot of Bridge Row.
It seems that Alex. Miller and Wright Ken
edy commenced the quarrel at the latter’s
muse about a red rooster. Kennedy threw an
ix at Miller and the latter ran and was pursued
iy Kennedy, who cut Miller, or Miller’s coat,
with a knife, inflicting only a slight wound.
About this time' Alex. Minor, Jas. Walker and
Mack Miller appeared on the scene, and Minor
umouneed his presence by stabbing Mack
Miller in the left breast, inflicting a dangerous
wound. Then another of the Miller family,
Fortune by name, put in an appearance, and
after chasing Minor across the Augusta rail
road bridge, emptied the contents of a double
barrel shot-gun into Minor’s neck, making a
considerable hole therein. Minor rallied, how
ever, and instead of retaliating on his assailant,
turned on Jim Walker and shot him through
Hie thumb. The affair then stopped and the
combatants laid back on their ears.
To-Morrow In Chriatnuis.
And we don’t intend to work if we can help it.
We want to forget for one day at least that we
really work for a living, and at home with the
loved ones is just where we can he found to
morrow. To those parties who contemplated
sending ut Christmas presents the above item
is important. The Mayor won’t let us shoot
the festive popper or touch off the soaring
rocket, because it might burn up a block or so
"f stores, so will have to stay at home and
watch the mischief brought into the house by
Claus. Santa is a brick. \Vealway6did
like him, and now that we grown up and made
liis acquaintance, aud found that he is not too
proud to recognize us on the street, we like
him better than ever. lie used to treat us
mighty well in our young days. Many is the
time that wc have been aroused from our
dreamful slumbers by the shouting of younger
fellows with the cry of “Merry Christinas,”
and when wc jumped out of bed and froze our
diet on the cold floor to peep in the suspended
stocking, there to And wliat bully old Santa
had seen fit to give ns. Those were happy
days. We were not a poor reporter then. We
didn't think we’d fail so low. But Time, re
lentless, cruel Time, thought differently, and
we would like to see our stocking filled now.
One of our socks might hang a week, and it
would never get filled until we took it down
and filled it with our lovely No. 8 foot.
But because we are slighted, we do not wish
’there to be, and sincerely hope that all will
have a jolly Christmas, plenty to eat and wear,
and a clear conscience and a fnll stomach to
ommtnce the new year with. Merry Christ
mas.

The following preamble and resolution was

Whereas, The deplorable results of agitat

local character to be seen im everything about
us. Our agricultural interests are paralyzed
(iinsi quent upon a partisan warfare made upon
the laboring classes who bare been driven to
And homes, in a distant land ; our commercial
and manufacturing interests have almost been
brought to a stand still through the baneful
influences of political strife, and through the
manipulations of crafty ami designing cliques
and Kings the people have been reduced to an
object servitude which makes a mocking of
freedom and puts patriotism to the blush.
Believing that every man should think and
act for himself, independent of political mas

THE I'HI.IIII V WEEKLY.
IT Is universally conceded that advertising is
J a necessity to success in business; it Is also
conceded, by the shrewdest buslnesa men, that
newspapers are the best medium for reaching
all parties whose trade Is desired.
TIIE MONROE ADVERTISER
reaches more of the people trading with Mu
con than any other Journal published in tin
country; it is, therefore, the bent medium of
communication with tiie planting interests.
W* will be happy at any time to furnish refer
ences to leading merchant* here and elsewhere,
who will testify to the fact that they have re
ceived orders lor goods from parties who read
their curds In Thr. Aiiucrtiner. Jn fuct, many
who have availed themselves of Its columns,
candidly say that Its value exceeds that of all
oilier journals in which they are represented.
l’h* Adtiertiur has the freshness of youth and
the ripeness of age, and is therefore deservedly
successful.
CHARACTER OK ADVERTISEMENT*.
No advertisements are admitted whieh arc
