mitted Into the Infirmary the 13tb. The
Board cnee and notning was done, and ad
journed until to-morrow afternoon.
Dr. Bemi.a stated that be had tele
graphed two cases of fever on the re
sponsibility of the Secretary of tho Board
of Health, who toll him thore were two
mild cases. These cases have since
proved not to be yellow fever
Dr. Bntherford, Stete Health Officer of
Texas, notifies the boards that Texas will
raise tne quarantine if the board will
assure him that tho city is entirely
healthy, and furnish clean bills of health
to pas-i ngers leaving it.
The Boards adopted tbo following:
Resolved, That in view of the present
sanitary condition of New Orleans, and
tho care taken to continue the mast seta
pnlnns cleanliness in the city, and in all
steamboats and other vessels leaving the
city, that tbo National Board of Health
be, uni is hereby requested to co-opsrate
wi'h ns in tbe termination of all other
restrictions than those relating to bygenic
measures.
Atlanta, September 13.—The Govern
or hts refused to aocept the resignation of
the Comptroller General,and thereby em

has accepted the resignation of Assistant
Treasurer Murphy, who resigns in order

Three additional deaths were reported—
Joseph Sharp and two colored persona.
Joseph Scarp was tbe brother of Kiehard
Sharp, whoso death occurred lost night.
Both had sought the House of Beta;',
situated six miles east of the oity on
Poplar street boulevard. Several per
sons died i the sem • bouse last year and
four have been hrrieluom it this season.
Die. Ess and Winn, who went to Horn
Lake Island this morning to inveatigat
cases reported thore, returned this even
ing. They report that tho death of Jno
Banter, which ocm -red on Sunday, was
caused by yellow fever, notwithstanding
that Dr. O'Eeilly, his physician, declared
his discaso to bs bilious intermittent
fever.
Donations to tho Howards to-diy
amounted to $2 221, of which $1,000
came through J W. Preaton, chairman
of the citizens’ committee of Chicago.
Memphis, September 16.—Four cases-
and one death reported. Drs. Ess &
Winn, Inspecting officers of the State

for $475 balance, which remained in the
Treasury from last year. M. J Hungem

of Trade, of Pittsburg, also authorizes
the Howards to check on him for $700

o’clock, in the building 134 Main street,
ocaupnd by Mrs. John, w»3 extinguished
without serious damage. Mr3. John was
absent from tho city.
Inspecting officers have began disin

Portsmouth, Exa., September 16.—

complete the passage with all possible
dispatoh. Tho drafts will be hastened
np to tako part m the operations against
Afghanistan.
Cincinnati, September 16. — The
health officer has ordered the quarantine
to be raised on Thursday next, sixty days
from the time of its aitablisbment. No
oaso of yellow fever here since July.
Before that time there had been six im
potted cises, one of which was fatal.
Baltimore. September 16.—TheGrand
Lodge ot I. O. O. P. reassembled at 0
o’clock (his morning. Various petitions
wore presented. The report of the Grand
Sire was adopted, and the report of
iho Lsgitlative Committee considered and
aoiion thereon deferred until Thursday.
The censnro passed npon one A. B.
Grosh by the Grand Lodge of 1878. for
publication of forms of order, was re
scinded and he wa3 exonerated. Many
ri solutions were offered and referred to
appropriate committees. Committees were
also appointed by tho Grand Sire npon
tbo History of Odd Fellowship and
npon Revision of the Bales ot Order.
The Grand Lodge then went into secret
session.

oommerciat exchange of this city to-day,
by a vote of 96 to 61, adopted the cen
tal system, as a basis for the purchase
and sals of grain, flour aud seed?, to
take effect Januaiy fits. next.
Richmond, September 16.—Cigar mak
ers in toveral factories in this city strock
last week for full union wages, which
were conceded by all the employers ex
cept those in one factory, who sent North
for workmen to-day. A large number of
new bands arrived from Buffalo, and were
met by tbe strikers at the rtopot, who en
deavored to dissuade them from going to
work. Tho new comers, however, went
o the factory and prepared for work
The demonstrations qf the strikers, while
not actually threatening, was of each
a character a3 to cause tbo employers of
the new bands to call for a detail of police
at tbe factory to guard them. To-night
the strikers and a large ciowd of sympa
tbizsra are parading the streets with
music and transparencies, advertising all
tho factories wnich have acceded to the
demand for wages according to the un
ion. No trouble is anticipated.

New Orleans, September 16—Henry
C. Dibble, who was assistant and acting
Attorney General under Governor Kel
logg, in 1874, to-day filed a libel enit in
the United States Circuit Coart against
tbe New Orleans Picayune, claiming $25,-
000 damages for tne publication of a
charge that he (Dibble) shot and killed
a reporter named West on the 14:h of
September, 1874. The complaint, wnich
is sworn to, declares that the accusation
ia absolutely false.

and others, after which the Convention

gins to be actually felt, and not merely
threatened, it ia not likely that the timo

effect on the demand in prices. Tbe defi
ciency in tbe supply of cotton, which is
now being painfully realized, means ul
timately a deficiency la tho enpjoly of
yarns and cloth. The qnantity of cotton
available during the next ten months,
will not provide for the consumption of
more than fifty thousand biles per week
at the utmost; and us tbe stocks of yarns
and doth are no whero large, it is prob
able that the process of curtailing pro
duction, which is now gainingground,
will, if persevered in, zosult in tho crea
tion ot a much more healthy demand.

Congressional Di-trior, McKennn, Re
publican, was elected over Berry, Demo
crat, by a email majority, the official re
turns from all exaept two onnnties, Ham-
bolt and Trinity, harwg been received.
Tne official returns just received from
Humbolt now give Berry 172 majority,
whioh tho returns from Trinity cannot
materially change.
Worcester, September 17,—When tbo
convection reassembled, Mr. Lathrop, of
Spriogfiod, moved tbe adaption ana en
dorsement of the candidacy of B. F. Bai
lee f or Governor. The resolution was
adopted and a committee of eleven ap
pointed to present nominees for tbo bal
ance of the ticket. The committee on
resolutions repotted a platform, express
ing regrets that part of the Democratio
party ot tho State refused to bo governed
by the dec:-ton of the majority, bat in
viting them to rotnrn and make common
o-nse against tho Republicans. It also
depreoates discussion of national ques
tions iu tbe present State osmpaign; de
mands rigid economy m State and munic
ipal effur.; regulation of corporation?;

Memphis, September 17.—Tho follow
ing telegram, addressed to D. F. Porter
an i John Johnson, committee, was receiv
ed from Washington this evening:
It has been decided by the President
and the Cabinet, after fall consideration,
that since tbe recent action of Congress,
relief to tho people in yellow fever camps
most come either from the Naval Buard
of Health or Stato authorities, Congress
baring passed a law on tb£ subject, Fed
eral action mnstbo guarded thereby.

Nine cases ot fever in all, of which five
were colored and four while, were report
ed to-day. Among tho nnmber wero
Charles Mailer, Maggie Burn?, Catherine
Bak-r and A. Biermaa. One additional
death has occurred, that of Emma Hill,
colored.
To-day’s donations to the Howards ag
gregate $462. Fifteen nurses were sent
out by the* Howards to-dsy. Among those
supplied are S. Sohm and Peter H. Don
nally. Acnild of Mr. Meux, residing
eight miles south of tho oity, died to-day
of tbe fever. X'ho thermometer ranged
from 58 to 84.
