A Mttemccs Affair—Marks of Blood—A
Stbakoe Maw Asks a Significant Question.—
About 11 o’clock Monday night the sharp report
of a Derringer pistorwas heard in the neigh
borhood of the crossing of Walton and Forsyth
lUaaion, who-kiUcd-anather one of that^^aort-l- st — 1 ySvPear-Qrphau’sschoolhonseand the First
Baptist Church. Those in the immediate neigh
borhood were' startled’by the report, and on
looking in that direction no person could be
seen. A few minutes after the firing a strange
man walked into a beer saloon near by, and
asked of the crowd sifting around if any one
was hnrt by the shooting jrist now? Nothing
unusual was noticed in his appearance or man
ner at the time. He was answered by some
one present that they did not know of any dam
age being done, when he retired.
Yesterday Messrs. Wallace and Waddell were
examining the front Of the school building, and
discovered traces of blood on various part of
the house. On closer inspection, the marks of
fingers were seen on the steps, all clearly de
fined by blood. If was scattered around on the
grating and pavement to a considerable extent.
Many speculations are indulged in as to the
probable cause of these signs, but no satisfac
tory explanation has been found.

A Harvest for the Paris Lawyers.—Almost
innumerable legal questions and “choses in ac
tion” have grown out of the late civil war in
Paris. Demands amounting to seven hundred
millions of francs have been made upon the
insurance companies for risks upon property
burned by the Communists, which the under
writers refuse to respond to under tae exception
able circumstances of the case, wherefore plain
tiffs bring suit. There are said to be, also, more
than three hundred thousand cases of contro
versy arising between landlords and tenants,
ont of the repeated interferences of the differ
ent governments de facto with the contracts be
tween those parties; and a myriad of suits ac-

kinds of obligation and covenants, due course

jEditors Telegraph and Messenger : I would
call the attention of the authorities and citizens
generally of Bibb county, to the great necessity
of having a bridge built across Tobesofkee
creek, at Dr. D.B. Searcy's mill. The old bridge
was built during tho Confederate war, some ton
years ago, so the old frame must be decaying.
The arches are too far apart and the bridge has
no protection on the sides, and is too near the
mill dam. The planters of Monroe and Upson
counties do not feel safe in risking their teams
and loaded wagons on the present bridge. Will
Macon look to her interest ? Whilst I am speak
ing of the bridge, allow me to say to you that
the roads are almost impassable. The merchants
of Macon should look to this. The authorities
of Monroe and Upson counties are looking well
to the interest of their marts.
The cotton crop is tae poorest I have seen
since the war. The com is ruined without rain
in a few days. Health of the county generally
good. A Friend to Macon.
Insurrection in Jamaica.—Kingston dis
patches of the loth say that the negroes of the
island have planned an insurrection, which has
been arranged for the 19th or 20th. The con
stabulary,government troo'ps and volunteers had
been put in readiness to meet it, and were de
termined, if they did rise, to teach the negroes
better manners.
Needless.—We see by the Charleston Conner
that the negroes fixed the mnnicipal election
there in August, so as to hit upon a time when
tae whites were away—at the springs or the
North. That was rather ungenerous in Mr.
considering his vast mfiipxils. there nn e
