We learned, yesterday, by a private letter from

His kUnsas waa very sudden, aa we learn, not

In ovary relation of life, Dr. Ridley was one

waa, wo suppose, very nearly, if not quite,
seventy years of age at the time of his death.

Ilrnln null Tliynlral I.ubor,
When the body is taxed by severe exeroise or
eontinnons exertion, prolonged repose is indis-
pensable, or the machine give* way sr.d refuses
to set. The waste of the system by perspira
tion and the protruded tension of the muscles
must lie restored by corresponding rest and
food stimulants. Hence the dsy-laborcr re
qniraa from eight to ten honr* of sleep, and an
imal food also, in considerable amount, to sns

tain, however, in menial portraits. The fnllest
exorcise of the mind for the greater portion of
tho day and night daring a long period of years,
is compatible with perfect physical health.
Sir Robert Teel, the elder Fitt, Lord Fainter
ston, the Dnke of Wellington, Lord Brongbam,
Mr. Webstar, Sir Walter Scott, Boron Hnmbolt
and a hundred other instances might be ad
dneed to confirm this statement.
It ia a groat mistake to suppose Uist study

salt may be traced to palpable violations of
hygienic economy. If the mind be I ixed, and

We repeat, however, that with proper alien
tiontotbe ordinary rules of health, the mind
is capable of almost indefinite exertion, with
out deleterious conseqnence*. This may be as
cril>ed, at least in psit, to the difference exist
ing between the operations of the mind and
body. The waste of the latter is positive, and
appreciable in it* effect* under the wear and
tear of exposure. Hence, the process of recu
