establishment down on Fourth street, and be is
now receiving afresh stock of physio from New

also keeps a fall stock of patent medicines, and
all other goods nsoslly found in a drag store.

Anomrn Ktoum.—About 3 o’clock yesterday
afternoon the dty was visited by another se
vere storm of wind and rain, aooompanled by
thnnder and lightning. Tbe rain came down
In torrents for a time, and turned young floods
loose in the streets, removing more filth in ten
minutes than thi scavengers have removed in a
fortnight.
Earlier In the afternoon a heavy cloud passed
around tbe olty and floated off to tbe southwest,
As an entomological hardship, the mosquito
has but one equal, and that is fooud in tbe
diminutive frame of that autslope of tbe irneci
world, that kangaroo of the sntomoIogV—tbe
flea—the wicked fl*a whom all men nod women
in Msoon have been pursuing for mes* of tbe
spring and simmer months. In a : re, the flea
Sa one of the least of the subjects of tbe King
of the Zoological dominions; in inflaenee, it is
one of the largest. If we wanted to provoke a
man to do some of the worst swearing in his
vocabulary of profanity, wa should at onoe
insert a healthy flea into his breeches leg, and
then stand aside and listen, and we would soon
have oracular evidence of tbe aeeomplishment
of our purpose.
A pair of full grown flsss are warranted to
keep a full sized family awake a whole night,
and their last bite would be as pungent as their
first.
With the mosquito one has a fair showing for
an equal fight, because be never attacks with
out first sounding his little slogan to give fair
warning that he is coming; but tbe flea is om
nipresent and invisible, moves with a silence
that would astonish sleep itself, and when you
examino tbe place where he bit you last be is
industriously making an incision in some remote
portion of your person. Tbe very moment you
have your thumb pressed firmly upen him, fully
convinced that yon will not let him get awsy
this time, be is sitting on his haunches, on the
back of your other baud, waiting to see the
smile that will illuminate your handsome visage
when you raise your thumb and find nothing
under it but a stinging sort of a flea bite.
Tbe fisa Is a laUludinarian in its most unlim
ited sense. “No pent np Utica contracts bis
powersbut he forages at large upon one’s
person, and knows precisely where the tender -
est places are. If he finds these latter guarded
he will roam to lesi fertile pastures. No hide
Is too tough for him to penetrate. Some of
them have rim enough forbore through tbe
Tkx Vital Dnxur—It la necessary to the health
of the body that its exhausted and refused parti-
dee should be carried off by the excretory organs,
and it is squally nwsaorr that tbe waste matter
thus expelled should be leplaoed by new elements
derived from digested and aecirndated food. It Is
evident, therefore, tbit go d digestion and perfect
assimilation are eseential to bcdily vigor; and it
Is because Hoe tetters Stomach Bitters powerfully
aeaiet these processes, that it is regarded by tbe
intelligent cl«***c*, whoec opicioce are founded cn
observation, as the omy absolute specific for dys
pepsia and its attendant ills, at present known,
When tbe system, either from constitntional ranees,
overwork, excess, anxiety. or actual disease, is in
an unnaturally relaxed condition, something more
than its exhausted particles paaees through the
peree. Vitality leaks throogh these ver.fages. El
ements which should remain in the blood and en
rich it are evolved, and that fluid becomes then
watery and incapable of removing the sulids of the
body as fast aa they dtcay. The consequences are
emaciation, debility, nervousness. lose of spirits,
and a general, or perhaps a rapid, decline of all
powers of life. It is In cases like this that the re
storative propertiee of Hostetter’s Bitters are moat
conspicuous. The first two or th'ee do*e* some
times produce a change In the feelings and aaoect
of the invalid that Is perfoctfy astonishing, and by
a persevering use of this superlative vegetable
tonic and alterative, the vital drain Is sure to be
arrested, the strength reinstated, the fieeh restored,
the constitution reinforced, and tbe brain relieved
of the cloud that obscured it.
