‘Eastern Herald’ is the name of
Rev. G. W. Pratt’s u8w paper, the
first number of which has been issued
at Palaikn, Fla., a flourishing village
situated at the head of navigation
to sea going Bteamere on fbe St.
Johns river. i
The Herald presents quite a heat
appearance, and is well gotten up.
It is independent in politics, but will
never sacrifice principle for the sake
of patronage. Published weekly at
$3 per year or $2 for six months.
Riveb News.—The River is now
clear as a crystal, and affords mul
titudes of the “finny tribe” to those
who have the patience to angle for
them.
Only one of the Central Line of
boats plysto this port at present,
the Julia St Clair, which makes
weekly trips.
Other lines send their steamers up
very frequently.
We notico considerable freight in
the warehouses for points on the
rivers purchasedjfrom our merchants,
flfcs trade is not inconsiderable, and
it is reasonable to suppose that by
next season, Bainbridge will rival all
the Chattahoochee cities in that
trade.
Very little cotton is being shipped.
Large quantities of Gnano may be
seen at the warves, which Bpeak well
for the thrift of the farmers.
Peters’ Musical Monthly.— Tho
March number of this valuable pub
lication is at hand, and contains some
twenty-four pages of Choice New
Music. We notice, first, a beautiful
little ballad, with chorus, by J. S.
Cox, entitled ‘Left all Alone,’ the
words of which run as follows :
••I’m left *11 alone in my Borrow,
No mother to soothe me to rest."
Then follows a Sacred Song by
George Leach, entitled *The Lord
will Provide.’
“Though troubles assail, and dangers affright |
Though friends may all fail, and foes all unite j
Yet oue thing secures us, whatever betide ; •
The Scriptures assure us—tho Lord will provide.
