The pea crop is almost an entire fannre; sugar-cane has been cut off perhaps one half; the farmers are now converting it into sugar and syrup. Flint river has never been so low at this season of the year. The most of the wells in Bain bridge are dried up; and still the drought continues. “O SOPHONI8BA 1 SOPHONISBA O !” This was the unmeaning exclamatory line in Thomson’s Tragedy that canned the indignant pea nut eaters to cry out from the pit-, “O Jimmy Thomson! Jim my Thomson 0!” Their ridicule proved greater than the poet’s genius, for the play was hissed from the stage. Had he only been prophetic enough to erv out. “O Prophvlactic! ProphylacticO!” then might approving posterity have voted him a monument, capped with a bottle of Prof. Darby’s Fluid, all glowing with purple in the sunlight of Ids ra diant fame. D , President B. MallON. Secrets! V. for The Blodgett Indictment Perjury. It is stated in tbe Augusta Chron icle and Sentinel, on information received from the United States District Attorney for Georgia, that the indictment of Foster Blodgett for having committed perjuiy taking the iron-clad oath of office when he had notoriously raised a ▼olnnteer company of artillery lor the Confederate army, will be quash ed, there being “a disposition ou the per’ of the Government to settle the matter.’ We know that Mr. Blodgett did raise, and for a short time command* •wd, a company of artillery at the very outset of the wai in 1861, long before there waa any idea of conscription or compulsory military service. To superficial oliserver this would seem ‘‘voluntary aid aud comfort to the enemies of the United States." It is also known to many that Mr. Zf;o<l gett, ambitious of military distinc tion, sought election ss a field officer of a distinguished Georgia regiment which, however, blighted his a«pir ations by failing to elect him. It is plan notorious that the iron-clad oath contains an explicit asseveration that the subscriber never gave any volun tary aid to the Confederate Govern ment or Army. Mr. Blodgett, after the war, sought aud obtained the office of Postmaster at Augusta, and necessarily, before he could qualify or assume the duties of that office, If yon want a good Sowing Machine for 40 dn'lsrs, call on G. W. Lewis, at the Clothing Store, and get one of Wilson's sh ittle Machines—stitches alike on both sides. For simplicity, durability and beanty, they are without a rival. G. W. Lewis.
