The following which we. find in the
editorial column* of the Albany New*,
may serve to open the eyes of the true
men of Georgia to the dangers which
environ our path. The tpcitetnen are
plotting the min of the State, provided
the News is not misinformed:—
We learn from various sources, and
upon good authority, that a certain so-
called Democratic Senator, and certain
so-called Democratic members of the
House, liave entered into a conspiracy
to sell out the Democratic party of
Georgia to the Radical party. The trade
proposed is most infamous in conception,
and if ronsumated will entail disaster
and ignominy tpon the Slate. It tuns
thus:
Bullock to bo elected to tbe U. S.
Senate in place of Hon. n. V. M. Millar.
Conley to succeed Bullock ns Gover
nor.
These two worthies to give a pledge to
cease their struggle to have the State
remanded to military government, and
to make hd further effort lo re-seat the

dent of the Senate, and the 15th
amendment to be ratified.
These points constitute the basis of
the “conservative” programme and tbe
political bartering contemplated by the
partiee to the compact. It is possible
that we are not exactly correct in slat
ing tbe terms of tbe trade, but it is not
probable that any phase more favorable
to Georgia or her true sons will be
exhibited by tbe development of the
trick.—As to the roinuti aeoi the mon
strous play of tbe ring, we are not in
formed, but it has its subordinate in
trigues and a scheme of quid pro quos.
And this is tbe child of the harlot
that bears the enphonious cognomen of
“Conservatism ” Its paternity is easily
traced, and the aforesaid Senator and
. representatives, and a number of ob-
'scure spoilsmen, are spotted as its God-
Fathers. We now omit their names
only for tbe purpose of accumulating
proof and obtaining those of all the
“dirty dogs” in the “ring.”

Pocket-Picking at Macon.—There
must have been a pretty good attend-
dancedf professional <a-pet-bag bum
mers at tbe Maoon Fair, judging by tbe
extent of their operations in tbe pocket
picking line. The Telegraph of Satur
day says:
“.Some twenty-five or thirty cases of
pocket-picking have been reported to us
within the last two days, and we have
.heard of a number of ladies who had
Iheir gold chains clipped from their
necks, and also robbed of their watohes
and money. A bold rascal entered the
ticket office at the Fair Grounds, and
watching his opportunity, seized a large
amonnt of money and was abont to make
off with it when he was nabbed and the
money recovered. He will answer for
his raaeality at the next term of the
Superior Court, Up to the present, six.
or eight of the rascals have been caught
bnt they are a mere drop in the bucket
ful of them in the city. .
“We have received from a gentleman
stopping at the Lanier House, two
pocket-books and a lady's poitmonnie,
which were found ander the frame build
ing near the entrance to the Fair
Grounds, in tbe angle formed by the
intersection of the rail and dirt roads.
Oar informant says several other pock
et-books were found under tbe building
by a negro and carried off. Of coursj
no money was found in either.
The Telegraph and Messenger of
Saturday says:
“The infernal pick-pockots have done
an extensive business in this locality
daring the past week, and many ladies
and gentlemen have suffered most griev
ously at their hands. Among others we
might mention C. C. Smith, of Wiikiu-
songconnty, who had his pocket book
taken from the breast pocket of his coat
at the passenger shed on Friday, which
contained between $700 and $800 iu
cosh, and a due bill from Adams, Jones
«& Reynolds for $900.
Gkn. Lee on the Death of George
Pkabody.—The following is a noble tri
bute to George Peabody, which General
Lee, on hearing of his death wrote to
Mr. Peabody Russell, the nearest rela
tive of the deceased:
LXXlKaTON, Va., Not. 10, 1869.
.My Dear Mb. Busan*:—The an-
noncement of the death of your une'e,
Mr. George Peabody, has been received
with {he deepest regret wherever his
name and benevoionoe are known; and
nowheoe have hi* generous deeds—re
stricted to no oountry, section or sect—
elicited more heartfelt admiration than
nt tbe South. He stands alon^in histo
ry for the benevolent and judicious dis
tribution of bis great wealth, and bis
memory has become entwined in the
affections of millions of his fellow-citi-
zens in both hemispheres.
I beg, in my own behalf and in behalf
of the trustees and faculty of Washing
ton College, Virginia, which was not
forgotten by him in his acts of generos
ity, to tender the tribute of our unfeigued
■arrow at his death.
With great respect, your obedient ser
vant, R. E. Lbk.
