The “Junk Gatherebs. ’'—We have
noticed, for sometime past, quite a num
ber of persons, of all sizes, carrying loads
of old iron to the junk shop on Water
Street, and so long us they exercised
their “jnukisli** calling in a legitimate
manner we did not object; but, when, in
order to supply the <j' eat demand for old
iron, our faithful old printing press,
which for over a quarter of a century had
disseminated news and ideas to the
masses, and which had been laid aside
on account of age and infirmity, is, with
out leave or liceuse broken in pieces and
packed off ti^the junk shop and sold- for
worthless iron, we do most strenuously
protest. It surprises us that the jnnk
dealer had so little respect for such a
veteran member of the press.

Prize Schemes in general are looked
upon with suspicion—and justly so, be
cause they are usually conducted by
parties who are under no legal restraints
or obligations to fulfill their promises
however extravagant they may be. Nor
are prize Schemes usually regarded with
favor by men of integrity or financial
responsibility. We are happy to say that
no objections of this kind ran be urged
against the great llEDERSON KY.
PRIZE SCHEME which we are adver
tising in our columns. All parties con
nected with it are men of the highest so
cial, financial and moral worth, and cven-
if this were not 60, they are strictly
hound by a regular legal charter, so that
not a dollar of the funds arising from
the sale of tickets can be touched until
the winners of the prizes are actually in
possession of them—thus forming tbe
the best possible security in belinlf of
the tieket-holdet‘8. '‘-So honorable nn en
terprise certainly deserves well of our
citizens.
