W n r with Mexico begun.—Capture of
Tico Mexican Steamers.
New Orleans, March 19.---The Mexi
can war steamship Marquez has arrived
below, as a United htates prize, iti charge
of Lieut. Chapman, of the frigate Sarato
ga. The Saratoga’s men also captured the
Mexican war steamship Gen. Miramon,
which arrived below here at noon. Both
of these steamers were captured off Anton
Lizardo, on the morning of theCth instant,
after aJ>rief action, with slight loss.
TW Exequatur of the American Consul
at A era Cruz has been revoked.
There was great excitement at Vera
Cruz, in consequence of the action of the
American squadron. The French and
Spanish are very bitter.
Lieut. Chapman is the bearer of dispatch
es to Washington.
SECOND DESPATCH.
Miramon commenced the siege of Vera
Cruz on the sth. On the 6th, two steam
ers appeared E-fore the city, showing no
colors. TheU. S. ship Saratoga, with a
detachment of marines from the Savannah
and Preble, in the Indianola and Wave,
were ordered to proceed to the anchorage
of the steamers and ascertain their charac
ter. On nearing the anchorage, and when
oil Anton Lizardo, one of the steamers
moved off. A shot was fired to bring her
to, and the Indianola sent to overhaul her.
The Indianola’s hail was answered by a
shot from the steamer, followed by a simi
lar demonstration from Miramon’s guns
and a volley of musketry ; whereupon the
Saratoga tired a broadside and the action
became general. The Mexican Commo
dore Marin and his men were taken pris
oners, and are on board the Preble.
THIRD DESPATCH.
Commodore Marin’s steamers passed by
all the foreign squadrons and Ihe castle
without hoisting their dags, although or
dered to do so by a shot from the castle
and other signals. The French, English
and Spanish vessels did’nt notice tho
fac f .
The engagement took place by moon
light. The Mexican steamers tried to
make tile 11* cscnj/U. 1 lute Amurionnu irero
wounded, one mortally. Fifteen Mexicans
are reported to be killed and thirty woun
ded.
When the aetion commenced, Commo
dore Marin hoisted the Spanish flag. The
prisoners corroborate the report of the
steamers’ having cleared from Havana as
merchantmen, They raised the Mexican
flag only after they had left Havana ; they
aflcrwutds mounted six guns each.
‘T got some boot in that bargain,” as
the loafer said when kicked out of doors.
‘ Sally, what time do your folks dine ?”

Ayers Sarsaparilla
A compound remedy, in which we have la
bored. to produce the most effectual uitcraiive
tiiat can ne made, it is a concentrated extract
of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with other
substances of still greater alterative power as
to afford an effective antidote for the diseases
Sarsaparilla is reputed to cure. It is believed
that such a remedy is wanted by those who
suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one
which will accomplish their cure must prove
of immense service to this large class of our
afflicted fellow-citizens, llow completely this
compound will do it has been proven by exper
iment on many of the worst cases to be found
of the following complaints:
Schofui.a and Scrofulous Complaints,
Eruptions and Eruptivk Diseases, Ulcers,
Pimples, Blotches, Tumors, Salt Rheum,
Scald Head, Syphilis and Syphilitic Af
fections, Mercurial Disease, Dropsy, Neu
ralgia or Tic Douloureux, Debility, Dys
pepsia and Indigestion, Erysipelas, Rose
or St. Anthony’s Fire, and indeed rhe whole
class of complaints uri ang from Impurity op
the Blood.
This compound will be found a groat pro
moter of health, when taken in the spring, to
expel the foul humors which fester in thr
blood at that season of the year. By the time
ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders
are nipped in the hud. Multitudes can, by
the aid of this remedy, spare themselves from
the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous
sores, through which the system will strive to
rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do
this through the natural channels of the body
by an alterative nndicine. Cleanse out tho
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions,
or sores; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the v’ ins ; cleanse it
whenever it is foul, and your feelings will tell
you when. Even where no particular disorder
is felt, people enjoy better health, and live
longer, for cleansing the lnood. the
biood healthy, and ail is well; but with this
pabulum of life disordered, th‘-re can be no
lasting health. Sooner or later something
must go wrong, and the great machinery of
life is disordered or overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the
reputation of accomplishing these ends. But
the world has been egregiously deceived by
preparations of it, partly because the drug
alone has not all the virtue that is claimed
for it, but more because many preparations,
pretending to be concentrated extracts of it,
contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla,
or any thing else.
During late years the public have been mis
led by large bottles, pretending to give a quart
of Extract of Sarsaparilla lor one dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon tho sick, for
they not only contain little, if any, Sarsapa
rilla, but often no curative properties whatev
er. lienee, bitter and painful disappointment
has followed the use of the various extracts of
Sarsaparilla which flood the market, until the
name itself is justly despised, and has become
synonymous with imposition and cheat. Still
we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend
to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the
name from the load of obloquy which rests
upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresistible
by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend
ed to cure. In order to secure their complete
eradication from the system, the remedy should
be judiciously tgken according to directions on
the bottle.
