Washington City Correspondence of the
Upson Pilot/
Washington City, D. C., )
March 10th, 1860. j |
Politico, sa}*s a great man, “how many
fair reputations has it blasted ! What toil,
what ingenuity, what wealth, what lives
have l>een wasted upon it!” It destroys
morals, it blasts the brightest hopes of ge
tfafrand sinks the best of talents into
hopeless obscurity. Too many facts attest
its power, and detnonstrates its pernicious
nrftucnce for us to scruple a moment, about
its effects or results. Aaron Burr, the
bright star—the hope of his country and
once the lover of the Union and the Con- j
stitution, fell a fair victim to this demon
monster, politics. It is only when men
are influenced by passion, or swayed by
prejudice, however, forgetting the duFf to
themselves and to their country, that we
behold the brightest prospects blasted, and
distinguished talents destroyed. May we
not fear that iu this lamentable state of
public affairs, that carried away by the
rapid tide of passion, some of our States
men may be subjects of the direst calami
ties which politics could send upon them.
Once tranquility promised us a calm re
pose in the enjoyment of our liberties, and
possession of every blessing; but agaiu dis
turbed by tempests and storms, hope seems
♦ o have forsaken us. iu the happiest peri
od of American freedom. Return, aye
wanderiugstar of our destiny, to your home
>r> the heavens, upon which the eye of
Washington, Jefferson and Monroe loved
to gare ! Forsake us not in the days of
adversity, but linger still in thy blessed
abode, a beacon light, to guide and direct
this great American people on to glory and
renown.
The wisdom of man cannot stay, the
powers of mind, cannot allay, feelings kin
dled by the volcanic fires of passion—the
worst elements of man's fallen nature.
Questions involving perplexity, doubt,
hatred, malice and envy, should receive
the calm consideration ot judgment and
reason; inste ad of being aggravated in
their worst forms and shapes. It is sad to
contemplate the reality or existence of such
a state of our country, as some politicians
are wont to consummate. It would he
niffuv inis ijumiiun, when men are
indifferent to the soberness of thought,
and blind to the dictates of conscience.—
Analogies will prove nothing ; examples
are merely chimerical in the politicians im
agination. You tell him of the disrupted
States of South America—of their intes
tine wars and hostile factions it seems but
n dream to his mind—a vague conception
of non-existence. He will not profit by
examples, with all the facts clear and une
quivocal before him, he whispers to his
compeer and makes open declarations to
his country, that in his opinion, far exist
ing evils in our political government, noth
ing will suffice short of a dissolution of the
Union. Would you take counsel from the
past, wisdom and knowledge will teach
this is no remedy. United we stand, di
vided we fall, is one of the most signifi
cant truths ever uttered by a Statesman.
Why such apprehensions and fears, why
such purturbations of the public mind ?
The sea may roll high and rough, but can
k not flow smoothly again ? You trace
the troubles and evils, you say, to our so
cial and domestic institutions. But you
should investigate the real causes of these
disturbances, and not attribute them to
any external origin or existence. The fact
is, that they are deep seated in the heart
ot man, whence come countless woes and
numerous afflictions. Cease then yourhar
angues—forget faults and misgivings, with
a candid conviction that agitation is an in
flaming element of our natures, and will
never calm the disturbances in our politi
cal system.
Let us adopt in our body politic pure
motives and elevated patriotism ; renewed
devotedness to the Constitution, and fra
ternal love to one another; regardless ot
the differences that may have arisen in
times past, with a firm ho; e that the days
of the Father of his country, may return
with harmonious feelings, peace and tran
quility.
God, forbid that Ibis American people
shall ever become two distinct confedera
cies ; or two antagonistic Republics ; with
interests so nearly identified and hopes
and fears so concordant.
“Union now and forever, one and insep
arable.” Philophrenian.

THE LIVER
INVIGORATOR!
PREPARED BY DR. SANFORD,
Compounded entirely from Gums,
IS ONE of the best purgative and Liver Medicines
now before the public, that acts as a Cathartic, ea
! sier, milder, and more effectual than any other metli
’ cine known. It is not only a Cathartic, but a Liver
i remedy, acting first on the Liver to eject its mot bid
matter, then on the stomach and bowels to carry ofl
j that matter, thus accomplishing two purposes effectu
ally, without any of the painful feelings experienced in
the operations of most Cathartics. It strengthens the
sv.sten at the same time that it purges; and when ta
ken daily in moderate doses, will strengthen and build
it up with unusual rapidity.
. The Live ris one of the principal regulators of the
human body ; and when it • performs its unctions
;,,n .{, fu.MArs, f i to- £2 system are fullv, develop
ed. Ihe stomach is aT- Q most entirely dependent
on the healthy action ot the Liver for the proper
performance of its func- lions; when the stomach
is at fault, the bowels at fault, and the whole
! system suffers in eonse- mm quence f one organ—the
Li.ver—having ceased to do it: duty. For the dis
eases of that organ, onenj of the proprietors has
made it his study, in a mm practice of more than
twenty years, to find some remedy wherewith to
counteract the many de-rangements to which it is
liable. {
To prove that this rein- edy is at last frnnd, any
person troubled with Liv- er Complaint, in any of its
forms, has but to try a H bottle, and conviction is
certain. m*
These Gums remove ail morbid or bad matter
from the system, supply- - mg in their place a heal
thy flow of bile, inv : gora m J ting the st’-mach, causing
; food to digest well, purl- tying the blood, giving
tone and health to the whole machinery, remov
ing the cause of the dis- ease—ctlecting a radical
1 cure. O ’
Billions attacks ar e cured and wlia* is better,
prevented, by the occasional use of the Liver In
vigorator. Vjj,
One dose after eating is sufficient to relieve the
stomach and prevent food from rising and sour
ltlg.
Only one dose taken:% before retiring, prevents
Nightmare. i J
Only one dose taken at night, loosens the bowels
gently, and cures Costiveness.
One dose taken after each nmal will cure Dyspepsia.
? *f”Ono dose of two teaspoonfuls will always relieve
Sick Headache.
One bottle taken for female obstruction removes the
cause of the disease, and makes a perfect cure.
Only one dose immediately relieves Cholic, while one
dose often repeated is a sure cure for Cholera Morbus,
and a preventive of Cholera.
Only fne bottle is needed to throw out of the
system the effects of medicine after a long sickness.
J S?” One bottle taken for Jaundice removes all sal
lowness or unnatural color from the skin.
One dose taken a short time before eating gives vig
■ or to the appetite, and makes food digest well.
One dose often repeated cures Chronic Diarrhoea in
its worst forms, while Summer and Bowel complaints
yield almost to the first dose.
One or two doses cures attacks caused by Worms in
Children : there is no surer, safer, or speedier remedy
in the world, as it never fails.
£ >7” A few bottles cures Dropsy, by exciting the ab
sorbents.
We take pleasure in recommending this medicine as
a preventive for Fever and Ague, Chill Fever, and all
Fevers of a Billions Type. It operates with certainty,
and thousands are willing to testily to its wonderful
virtues.
All who use it are giving their unanimous testimony
in its favor.
[ -O’ Mix Water in the mouth with the Invigorator,
and swallow both together.
THE LIVER INVIGORATOR
Is a Scientific Medical Discovery, and b daily working
cures, almost too great to believe. It cures as if bv
magic, even the first dose giving benefit, and seldom
more than one bottle is required to rare any kind of
Liver Complaint, from the worst Jaundice or Dyspep
sia to a common Headache, ail of which are the result
of a DISEASED LIVER.
Price One Dollar per Bottle.
