Accident and Death. —On Saturday, night,
i*th inst., a few miles below Madison, on the
Georgia R. K . the cars passed over a negro man,
who was lying directly across the track. Os
course immediate death ensued.
He was in the employment of the company,
a!l j ff ben last seen, before his death was sitting
upon the Road, waiting for the arrival of the
co-laborers who were to haye joined him at that
point. Tbe supposition is that he there fell
and thus lost his life.— Madison Visitor ,

The SroEM.—With which we were visited,
on Friday, the 13th, was truly terrific, probably
more so, than any that we have experienced for ;
many years. Several lives were lost by injuries
from tailing limbs and trtes, and one from iight-

Something done at Last.—The capital stock I
ot the Edgefield and Cheatham Plank Road has
been all taken, with the exception of some hun
creis of dollars which but await a simple con
tingency before being added on. Thus have our |
people at length proved themselves capable of i
doing a useful deed in handsome style. The !
work will be commenced at an early day and
pushed or to rapid completion. That it will j
pav well we have no kind of doubt. That it I
will be of great public utility is self-etvident. .j
Vow, begin, as soon a- possible, securing '
Plank Hoad No. 3, to Richardson’s. A goodly j
number of able men are ready to take hold of j

that it will not fail. Let it go on. Edgefield j
may yet be as famous for her Plank Roads as 1

TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN SAVAN
NAH AND AUGUSTA.

IX offering the services ot the steamer FASHION,
(the first boat of this lino) to the merchants of
Georgia and Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee,
we would ask for her that patronage which her
construction and light draught of water merits.
The Fashion is a home enterprise and owned ex
clusively by Capt T. N. Philpot (her commander)
and myself, whose entire attention will bo given to
tho interest of her patrons.
This boat was built in this city, and great care
has been taken in her construction to make her
worthy of tho trade for which she is intended.
Her capacity is about 2000 bales Cotton, her
draught cf water only 13 inches, which will enable
her at all seasons of tho year, to deliver her freight
promptly.
Her entire cargo will be taken between decks,
which will not only prevent damage to goods in
case of snagging, but will add much to the condi
tion of packages discharged from her. Mr. M. A.
Cohen is the agent of this line in Savannah, where
suitable wharves and warehouse have been provi
ded in a central situation for the reception of Cot
ton, Merchandize, Ac.
Tho Fashion will run in connection with the
New Y'ork and Philadelphia steamship, pelivering
goods at this point in five days from either of those

FIFTY DOLLARS REWARD.
THE above Reward will be given for the appre
hension and delivery, at tho S. C. Railroad of
fice, Augusta, of two negro men, BILL and
SHELLY, or twenty-five dollars for either.
The above negroes have been runaways since Ist
January last. Billy is about 5 feet 6 inches high,
black complexion and good countenance, and is
about thirty-two years old. He has a scar on tho
right arm below, and one on theloft arm above the
elbow. He was raised in Upper Three Runs, Barn
well District, S. C., and has a wife at that place.
Shelly is about 5 feet 4 inches high, about 31
years old, and hafe a small scar on his left arm ;
forehead high, and inclining back. He was raised
ip Barnwell District, by Jefferson Boyd.
