tJ'Vhai do tne Physicians say?—Lis-
La. ten to the testimony of an eminent
physician in favor of M'Lane's Vermifuge, which
is now universally acknowledged to be the best in
use; even members of the medical faculty (who
are so olten opposed to the use of patent medicines)
cannot withhold their approval of this invaluable
remedy:
Lind, Stark co., Ohio, Jan. 8,1849.
I have used Dr. M Lane's Worm Specific in my
private practice, and am prepared to say that the
unparalled success with which I have prescribed
its use, both for children and adults induces me to
say the most in its favor of any specific or patent
medicine ever before brought to my notice. The
mode of administration, the smallness of the dose,
and the certainty of its efficacious effects, give it,
in my opinion, a decided advantage over any other
medicine of the kind before the public.
Purchasers will, please be careful to ask for
Dr. McLane's Celebrated Vermifuge, and take
none else. All other Vermifuges, in comparison,
are worthies-:. Dr. M'Lane's genuine Vermifuge,
also, his Celebrated Liver Pills, can now he had at
all respectable Drug Stores in the United Stntee
and Canada.

Liver Disease. —Carter’s Spanish
Mixture, as a remedy for liver disease,
and the number of formidable evils connected with
a disorganized state of that organ, is unrivalled.
Hundreds of certificates, from the highest sour
ces, of persons living in the city of Richmond, Va.,
might be given of cures effected by Carter's Span
ish Mixture. We have only room to refer to the
extraordinary cure of Samuel M. Drinker, Esq ,
of the firm of Drinker A Morris, Booksellers, Rich
mond, Va , who was cured by two bottles of Car
ter’s Spanish Mixture, after three years suffering
from diseased liver. He says its action on the
blood is wonderful, better than all the medicine he
had ever taken, and cheerfully recommends it to

NEW ORLKANS, August s.— Cotton. —Arrived since
the 28th ult., 3,362 bales. Cleared in the same time,
23,968 bales. Stock in presses and an shipboard not
cleared on the 4th instant, 50,259 bales.
Our last report left the Cotton market in au exceed
ingly dull and unsettled state, the rather unfavorable
accounts brought by the Africa, and which were receiv
ed here at noon of Friday, having arrested operations,
and business was not resumed until Monday, when a
few hundred bales were sold, at irregular prices. On
Tuesday a few days later accounts bv the Alps were re
ceived, reporting a rather firmer market at Liverpool,
but still there lias been no considerable movement here,
and the sales of the entire week barely sum up 6.000
bales, at rather irregular prices, the market closing,
however, without any marked reduction from the quo
tations given in our last report, and which are contin
ued. The business has been principally for England,
France and the Continent, buyer*for the North appear
ing to be doing little ftAnothfng afthe present moment.
The supply immediately on sale is limited and scattered,
and the Middling descriptions, which are most enquir
ed for, are not readily obtained. The better grades ara
comparatively neglected.
On Wednesday six further bales of the new erop were
received from Texas, but thqy were pot sold when we
made our enquiries.

SINGER S SEWING MACHINES,
\\T Hlt’H are the only Sewing Machinoa of any
\ V utility which can be used without making
the owner liable to a suit for infringement of pa-.——
tented privileges are still sold at reasonable prims,
and until unquestioned right.
Having terminated our legal controversy with
Elias Howe, Jr, and procured his full license to use
his invention, there is not the slightest claim that
our machines infringe uny other patent.
The right to use the Machines which we hava
sold, and shall hereafter sell, is unquestionable.
We own ten distinct patents on Sewing Machines,
covering all the nice points of the invention, and
all the Machines of other manufacturers infringe
one or more of them. Our patent securing the
spring whe r eby the cloth, Ac., is held to the feed
ing apparatus by a yielding pressure, ris infringed
by all the Machines now offered in the markefT- ~
Those who buy the inferior and piratical machines,
are hereby distinctly apprised that we shall com
pel them to pay us for the privilege of using them.
Our legal rights will hencefort h be rigidly enforced.
The immense superiority of Singers Sewiug
Machines has been completely established. They
are of universal application—the same Machine
doing all kinds of work,, and doing it perfißcTfvr
They are not only superior in contrivance, but un
equalled in mechanical finish. They perform all
work required, and continue to do it without get
ting out of order. Wo des re to call attention par
ticularly to our new Machines to sew with a single
thread, which, by ample trials, have been proved
superior to al[ otners sos stiching linen and all very
thin fabrics—also for sewing leather, either with a
w.txed thread or silk—ani for quilting linings We
arc also prepared to exhibit and sell Embroidering
Machines, ptoducing an entirely new and very
beautiful result. Machines of extra size, bo'h
shuttle and single thread, may be had for a small
difference in price. These are found to be very
popular. Machines for hat binding, stitching car
pet-bag handles, and any other peculiar work,
bo supplied at short notice. ' "
Machine Needles, Silk Twist on spools. Three
Cord Linen Thread, an 1 all other articles used
with Sewing Machines always on hand and for sale
