CHARLESTON, Aug. 11.— Colton • —When we closed
our enquiries, preparatory to our report of the 4th in
stant, the market was in a languid and drooping con
dition. with the middling qualities valued nominally, at
Ojfcld cents. The marketiu the early part of the cur
rent week exhibited no new feature. The articie was
very much neglected, and purchasers had rather the
advantage in their purchases; and were subsequently
induced to extend their operations in consequence of
the favorable terms offered by sellers, and the transac
tions during the lust two or three Jays show an irregular
decline of 1 a Jo. under the prices given in our report of
the 4th instani —‘lie largest decline being in the lower
qualities, which constitute In tar the larger portion of
the stock.
The week's business may he summed upas follows,
viz Friday. 61 bales; Saturday, 300; Monday, 188: Tues
day,622; Wednesday. 600; ami Thursday, 117—making
an aggregate of 1-SSS bales, against the receipts in the
same time ot 40'*7 bales. The sales have been at ex
tremes ranging from 7J ,/ 10-j cents. Our quotations
were carofully revised yesterday at the close of the
market, and those we subjuiu will approximate as near
as possible to the present value of the staple. We
quote inferior, red, 7 <». 7jJ; ordinary to good ordinary, 8
t&8$; low to . trict middling, good middling, 9#
and middling fair, 10 cents. We have no quotations to
offer for the higher grades. The transactions in Long
Cotton this week reach 200 bales, chiefly the middling
class of Sea Island, at prices ranging from 27 to 35c,
and a few odd small parcels of the liner qualities, at
prices ranging from 42 to 40 cents and upwards.
Corn —The stock, which for some time back has been
very light, has been materially augmented this week by
the arrival of some 43,000 bushels. This heavy addi
tion to the stock has depressed the market, and holders,
in order to effect sales, have been compelled to submit
to a reduction. The market opened at 98c.. and closed
dull yesterday at 900. for similar quality, with a portion
of the supply un-old.
Flour. —The market this week lias hee n quiet. The
city demand, which lias been limited and confined to
small lots, has beet! supplied at prices ranging from 8d
(f£ s9 for barrels, and 4{ .q s4j for bags—old and new.
We learn that several of t..e mills in the adjoinin'*
States, which have been supplying our market, are in
full operation, and we mud look for a material increase
in the supply early In the coming month
Salt. —The demad is being supplied at 81.15 and 1.20
per sack.
Groceries.— The market has been in a qui.-t state
this week, so far as wholesale transactions are concern
ed, but there has been a decided improvement iu the
jobbing trade, and engaged in this trade have
mostly been doing more than average amount of busi
ness. The only tran action of any magnitude in the
leading articles, was the sale at auction, a few days
since, of the damaged portion of the cargo of the
British barque Aquatic, put into this port a short time
.since from Matanzas, consistingfof 138 hhds., 36 tcs.,
and 44 bbls. {Molasses. Tlip hhds. brought 14J ; tcs.
l.Jj ; and bbls. 13c. Some 100 bbls re-boiled New Or
leans Molasses sold at 34 and 35c. per gallon.

| DENNIS’ ANTI-SPASMODIC TINCTURE.
all sudden and dangerous attacks of Di -
ease, such as Pits or Convulsions; Apoplexy,
Lock-Jaw; Cramp Colic; Cholera; Pneumonia;
Hydrophobia; Bite of Snakes, and other danger
ous cases of Poisons, and all other diseases in
which immediate action is necessary.
This Ti&cture produces its effect by equalizing
the circulation of the Blood, and by relieving in
flammation. Its effect in relieving inflammation,
either internal or external, makes it useful in a
great variety of diseases.
For Fever aud Ague, or Chills, it is almost an
infallible remedy.
Diluted with syrup or honey, it is useful for
Colds and all affections of the Lungs, arising from
colds, such as Gough, Croup, Asthma, Difficulty in
Breathing, Ac.
As an external remedy, in fresh Cuts, Wounds,
Bruises, Burn*, Scalds, Bite of Snakes, Sting of
Bees, or Bite of poisonous Insects, it prevents in
flammation, and greatly relieves the soreness.
I'sed as a wash in eruptive diseases, such as
Scald Head, Ringworm, or diseases which causa an
itching sensation upon the skin, it soon produces a
healthy action. When thus used, the Georgia Sar
saparilla should be taken to purify the blood.
For Horses, and other animals, this article will
be found invaluable for Bruises, Cuts, Galls, Fistu
la, Ac. For Colic, and various other dangerous
attacks, it rarely fails to cure even the worst cases.
This is the most active medicine in use, yet it
may be given without clanger of injury. It seldom
fails, in dangerous cases, to cause an immediate re
action in the system. After i; has caused a reac
tion, it may be followed by such other medicines
as the situation of the patient may indicate.

f | Mils delicious article combines so many meri-
A torious qualities, that it has now become a
standard favorite with the citizens of New York,
Philadelphia and Baltimore. Dentists prescribe it
in their practice most successfully, and from every
source the most flattering laudations are awarded
it.
Inflamed and bleeding gums are immediately
benefitted by its use ; its action upon thorn is mild,
soothing and effective. It cleanses the teeth so
thoroughly that they are made to rival pearl in
whiteness, and diffuses through the mouth such a
delightful freshness, that the breath is rendered ex
quisitely sweet. It disinfects all those impurities
which tend to produce decay, and, as a consequence,
when these are removed, tho teeth must always ro
