Tallapoosa County, Ala., Jan 2,1852
M Bear Sir: — I send you this to certify to you that
§|P your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has per
formed one <f the most wonderful cures on me that
f has ever been effected on man.
I have been afflicted for forty years with eruptions
f on my legs and feet; in 1848 they got so bad that I had
to go on crutches, and in 1349 I had one leg amputated
ft above uhe kuee. lu about nine months after my other
§ leg broke out in large eating gmd running sores from
my knee to my foot, and discharged a great deal of of
fensive matter. My groin also broke out in large biles,
which discharged much offensive matter, and at the
same time my left hand broke out in large running
sores nearly to my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last two years
I cannot describe to you. 1 was in such agony that 1
never rested day or night.
In October last my eon brought me one of your bot-
Ge wrappers ; 1 read it. and found record of some won
derful cures performed by your “ Extract of Yellow
1 ock and Sarsaparilla.” I sent and got two bottles of
it, and commenced taking it. In two weeks, to my
great astonishment, my sores all became easy, and I
couid sleep all night, a thing I had not done for two
year**. When I had taken six bottles, my sores had
?: enarly all healed. My soreß got well as if ’by enchant
ment. I have dow used, in all, eight bottles of your
Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla,” and I notv
consider myself well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this Medicine’, for
believe it will cure any Iftjown disease in the world
Lay aside all prejudice and just try it. and proc aim its
great worth to suffering mankind, and entreat them to
take it, for it will curethenr.
.My case is well known in a large portion of South
gdfc Carolina. Georgia and Alabama, and if an v should doubt
the above cure, I invite them to call on’me. and I will
show them the scars. 1 can be found in Tallapoosa
County, Alabama, one mile from Stoe's Ferry.
RENAJATI HUGHES.
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly adap
ted for females of delicate health, resulting from Ir
regularities of menstrual discharges, and other diseases 1
peculiar to their sex. The proprietor has in his posses
sion a great number of certificates of cures performed
of the above description. We assure the afflicted, that
a bottle or two of Dr. Ouysott's Extract of Yellow
p*Dock and Sarsaparilla will at ouce regulate those diffi
culties and renew the natural energies.

Opposition to High Freight Tariffs !
Office of the Fashion Line, )
Augusta, April 15,1854. J
THE subscriber would respectfully call the at
tention of the Merchants throughout Georgia,
Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and cheap
route for ihe transportation of tlieir Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route ot from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a me? chant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with thcseaboaid, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
n addition to the present force f this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer These boatf*
will leavo Savannah after the discharge of the
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
ihree times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12J per cent, will bo allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet aw.sits you.
All goods from the sea board should be directed
to M A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produce trom the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufact ring portion ot Georgia, as
veil as t« the Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally, on the line of Hailroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Aorthern
markets, tips route offers very favorable induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should he forwarded to M. A.
CcLon, at Savannah, or all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
ine, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. aprillS

CARTER’S SPANISH MIXTURE.
The great Spri g Medicine and Purifier of the Blood
is now used by hundreds of grateful patients, who tes

greatest of all medicines, Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
Neuralgia. Rheumatism, Scrofula, Eruptions on the

of the Kidneys, Diseases of the Throat, Female Com
plaints, Pains and Aching of the Bones and Joints, are
speedily put to flight by using this great and inestima

For all diseases of the Blood, nothing has yet been
found to compare with it. It cleanses the system of
all impurities, acts gently and efficiently on the Liver
and Kidneys, strengthens the Digestion, gives tone to
the Stomach, makes*the Skin clear and healthy, and
restores the Constitution, enfeebled by disease or bro

and strength.
For the Ladies, it is incomparably better than all the

Mixture will remove all sallowness of complexion,
bring the rosesruantliDg to the cheek, give elasticity to
the step, and improve the general health in a remarka

fcctly safe when taken, and has never been known
to fail in curing the most obstinate ca>e. Worms
can never exist when thi3 remedy is once used,
from the fact that it not only destroys them but
removes all the slime and mucus whieh may re
main.
THE TAPE WORM.
This worm is the most difficult one to destroy of
all that inhabit the human body. If grows to an
almost indefinite length, and becoming so coiled
and fastened in the intestines and stomach as to
produco fits, St. Vitus’ Banco, <fce., which is the
cause of many going to the grave, Lot believing
that these complaints have their origin from the
Tape Worm; consequently they do not use the
proper medicines for their disease. To those who
arc afflicted with this awful foe to health, I rocom
mend the use of my W orm Syrup, and LiverjPills,
the Syrup to be taken in doses of two table spoon
fuls three times a day, then take from five to eight
of my Liver Pills, to dislodge and pass the worm.
By strictly following tbeso directions, the most ob
stinate cases of Tape Worm can be speedily cured.
ROUND OR STOMACH WORM.
This worm is usually found in the small intes
tines, and is the worm most common to children,
yet it is not entirely confined to them, as adults
have frequently been known to suffer with them.
The Symptoms most prominent while affected with
this worm, are hardness and fullness of the belly,
slimy stools, looseness of the bowels, picking at the
nose, a blueish streak under the eyes, Ac. If you
or any of your children havo any of the above
symptoms. HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP can

restored to health, and the worms thoroughly era
dicated from the system, you can rest assured there
is no remedy beyond the grave, as for fail, there is
no such word as fail with those who use my Worm
Syrup.
ASCARIDES OR SMALL THREAD WORMS
These worms, to which tho human system is lia

are generally , to bo foundin the rectum, and if al

lay the foundation for serious disorders, such as
inflammation of the bowels, and other derange

SYRUP. Such is tho astonishing power of my
medicinos over Ascaradiee, that I defy any one to
produce a case where my Worm Syrup and Liver

All that is necessary is to use the Syrup in accord
ance with directions cn each bottle, and in case a
gentle purgative is required in order to allay tne
irritation they produce, the Liver Pills by thoir
sympathizing action and healthy operation upon
the bowels, is the most pleasant medicine that can
be taken.

BEWARE OF IMITATIONS.
ASK for HAMPTON'S VEGETABLE TINCTURE.
The many cures made by this pleasant and safe
remedy may induce counterfeiting.
A medicine must have merit, and great merit too, to
stand the test of public opinion. No art of puffing can
galvanize a worthless article, so as to keep it up as a
good medicine, if it be not really so.
A good medicine will live, become popular, and ex
tend its sales year after year, in spite of opposition.
The people readily find out its virtues, and the fame of
them passes from mouth to mouth with more rapidity
than newspapers can spread it. A living witness testi
fying to the cure a medicine has made for him, is of
far more service than any newspaper advertising.
In proof of what we say above, we refer vou to

AFFLICTED RRAD!
Philadelphia medical house—Established 20
years ago by Dr. Kiskkllv, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. lie cautions the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, has enabld Dr. Kinkelin. (author of a work
on Self Preservation.) to prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, local and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming the most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is an evil habit some
times indulged in by boys,' in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostaeles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protraet
ted, insidious, and devastating affections. Few of those
who give way to this ptrnicious practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervous system
shattered, feel strange and unaccountable feelings, and
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affecfed becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study ; his step is tardy and weak, he is dull,
irresolute, and engages in liis"sport with less energy
than usual.
If he emancipate himself before the practice lias
done its worst, and enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that this is eau-ed by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken tbe attention of those similarly situated.
Marriage requires the fulfilment of several condi
tions, in order that it may be really the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications and their attendant
disappointments! then while it is yet time, in
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced, revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places himself under Dr. lvinke
lin'a treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and rely upon the assurance, that the se
cret- of Dr. K.'s patients will never he disclosed. '
Youne man—let no false modesty deter you from
mzkingyour case known to one who, from education
and re.sprctability. can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will co'nceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
thi- a fatal delusion, and how many a promising young
man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has laded from t-lie earth.
Strictures of the urethra a:e rapidly removed by the
application of a new therapeutical ageht, used only by
Dr. K Weakuess and constitutional debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.
Country Invalids can have (by stating their case ex
plicitly, together with a 1 their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K : s medicine, appropriated

ROGER'S LIVERWORT AND TAR.
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza,
Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, and all oth
er Lung Complaints tending to Consumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over our coun
try. The numerous letters we receive from our vari
ous agents, informing us of cures effected in their im
mediate neighborhoods, warrant us in saying it is one
of the best, if not the very best. Cough Medicine now

not unfrequently cures the very worse cases When all
other Cough preparations ha ve failed, this has relieved
the patient, as Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and
Physicians can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest

this medicine. If he lias been selling it for any length
of time lie will tell you
IT IS THE BEST MEDICINE EXTANT.
! Belotv we give a few extracts from letters we have
1 received lately, regarding the virtues of this medicine,
i Dr. S. S. Oslin. of Knoxville, Ga., says: “ I have been
; using your Liverwort and Tar very extensively in my
; practice for three years past, and ‘it is with pleasure I
state my belief in its superiority over all other articles
, with which lam acquainted, for which it is recom
mended.’’
Messrs Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from Way tie,s
ville, N. C , says : “ The Liverwort and Tar is becoming
daily more popular in this Country, and we think just
ly so. All who have tried it speak in commendable
terms of it, and say it is very beneficial in alleviating
the complaints for which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. C., Mr. S. R. McFall,
assures us “ that he uses it with great benefit in his own
family, and recommends it to his neighbors.” lie gives
an instance of a Nogro woman, in his vicinity, who had
been suffering with disease of tho Lungs for years at

Liverwort and Tar.

very few are the diseases in which a Purgative Medi
cine is not. more or less required, and much sick
ness and suffering might be prevented, if a harm

No person can feel well while a costive habit of
body prevails ; besides it soon generates serious and
often fatal diseases, which might have been avoided
by the timely and judicious use of a good purgative.
Has is alike true of Colds, Feverish symptoms, and
Bilious derangements. They all tend to become 01
produce the deep seated and formidable distempers
which load the hearses all over the land. Hence a
reliable family physic is of the first importance to
the public health, and this Pill has been perfected
with consummate skill to meet that demand. An
extensive trial of its virtues by Physicians, Proses
sors. and Patients, has shown results surpassing
anything hitherto known of any medicine. Cures
[save been effected beyond belief, were they not sub
stantiated by persons* of such exalted position and
character as to forbid tbe suspicion of untruth.
Among the eminent gentlemen to whom we art
allowed to refer for these facts, are
Prof. Valentine Mott, the distinguished Stir
geon of New York City".
Doct. A. A. Hayes, Practical Chemist of the
Port of Boston, and Geologist for the State of Mas
sucliusctts •
Ira L. Moore, M. D., an eminent Surgeon ane
Physician, of the City of Lowell, who has long used
them in his extensive practice.
H. C. Soxjthwick, Esq., one of the first mcr

C. A. Davis, M. D., Sup’t and Surgeon of th«
United States Marine Hospital, at Chelsea, Mass.
Did space permit, we could give many hundred
such names, from all parts where the Pills havr
oeen used, but evidence even more convincing that
the certificates of these eminent public men ii
shown in their effects upon trial.
These Pills, the result of long investigation anc
study', are offered to the public as the best anc
most complete which the present state of meciica
science can afford. They are compounded not of
the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal virtues
only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemica 1
process, in a state of purity and combined togethei
in such a manner as to insure the best results. Thb
-system of composition for medicines has been found
n the Cherry Pectoral and Pills both, to produce a
nore efficient remedy than had hitherto been ob
cained by any' process. The reason is perfectly ob
vious. While by the old mode of composition, ey
jry meaieine is burdened with more or less of ac-ri
uonious and injurious qualities ; by this, each indi
vidual virtue only that is desired for the curative
flfect is present. All the inert and obnoxious qua!
tics of eaclt substance employed are left behind, fhr
mrative virtues only being retained. Ilcnce it is
self-evident the effect should prove as they have
moved more purely remedial, and the Pills a surer,
nore powerful antidote to disease than any othej
medicine known to the world.
As it is frequently expedient that my medicine
should be taken under the counsel of an attending
Physician, and-as he could not properly judge of a
emedy without knowing its composition, I hnvr
supplied the accurate Formula by which both raj
Pectoral and Pills are made to the whole body of
ctitiouer3 in the United States and British Airier-
Provinces. If however there should be any
* who has not received them," they will b<
omptly forwarded by mail to his address.
Os all the Patent Medicines that are offered, hov.
few would be taken if their composition was known '
Their life consists in their mystery. I have m
mysteries.
The composition of my preparations is laid open
to all men, and all who are competent to judge on
the subject, freely acknowledge their convictions
if their intrinsic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was
pronounced by scientific men to be a wonderful
medicine before its effects were known. Many cm
incut Physicians have declared the same thing of
my Pills, and even more confidently, and are will
ing to certify that their anticipations were mor<
whan realized" by their effects upon trial.
They operate by their powerful influence on the
internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate is
into healthy action—remove the obstruction? of
the stomach, bow-els, liver, and other organs of tin
body, restoring their irregular action to health, am
by "correcting wherever they exist such derange
incuts as are the first origin of disease.
Being sugar wrapped they are pleasant to take
and being purely vegetable, no harm can arise fron
their use in any quantity.

HOBENSACK'S LIVER PililTs”
NO part of the system is more liable to disease
than the Liver, it being supplied with numer
ous blood vessels and nerves, and if diseased, the
blood of course flowing through all parts of the
body produces Liver Complaints, Jaundice, Bilious
Affections, Dyspepsia, Ac.
LIVER COMPLAINT
Is attended with chills, succeeded by fever, severe
pains in the region of the Liver, vomiting, bitter
taste, yellow furred tongue, pulse full and bound

should the left lobe be affected, the pain is general
ly in the left shoulder, with a short dry cough, the
skin becoming of a sallow appearance, and the
stools clay colored. This disease can be cured by
the use of Hobensack’s Liver Pills, as they act di
rectly upon the seat of the disease, and then ope
rating upon the bowels they expel all the corrupt
and vitiated matter from the system.
DYSPEPSIA.
The symptoms of Dyspepsia, and its various dis
eases are dizziness in the head, heartburn, oppres
sion after eating mo ds, sourness arising from the
stomach, Ac., and sometimes general "languor of
the whole body, from this it will be seen that the
disease owes its origin to a disorganized state of
the Liver and Stomach, llobensaek’s Li%-er I’iils

DR. MORSE'S INVIGORATING CORDIAL
A PHENOMENON IN MEDICINE
Hen Ith Resrored and Life Lengthened
BY
I'r. Morse's Invigorating Elixir oi Cordial,
AT FIRST the properties attributed to Professor
Morse's Invigorating Elixir or Cordial were deem
ed fabulous. The public often deceived could not be
lieve the simple and sublime truths announced by the
discoverer. Hut facts, undeniable facts, attested by
witnesses of the highest class and character, are now
triumphing over all doubts Incredulity is overthrown
by a mass of testimony which is perfectly irresistible,
The Elixir remedies, in all cases, the deplorable evils
arising from a misuse or abuse of tlie various organs
which make up the wonderful machine called n»au. It
restores to full vigor every delicate fanetioh corrected
with that mysterious compound jigeuey of matter aud
mind, necessary to the re-production of humai life.—
To persons of feeble muscular frame, or deficient in vi
tal power, it is recommended as the ou y mesne of
communicating that energy which is necessary o the
proper employment of all the natural appetites, e well
as the higher mental attributes. Its benelic al fleets
are not confined to either sex or to any age. The fee
ble girl, the ailiug wife, the listless, enervated jcutb.
the overworn man of business, the victim of nervous
depression, the individual suffering from general debili
ty, or from the w eakness of a single organ, will And im
mediate and permanent relief from till use of tbiaim
comparable renovator. To those who have predispcsL
tion to paralysis, it will prove a complete and urfail ng
safeguard against that terrible malady. There are
many, perhaps, who have so trifled w'itli their constitu
tions, that they think themselves beyond the reach of
medicine. Let not even these despair. The Flis'r
deals with disease as it exists, without reference r
causes, aid willnot only remove the disorder itsel.
RE BUILD THE BROKEN CONSTITUTION
The derangement of the system, leading to nervous
diseases, and the forms ot nervous disease itself, are so
numerous that it would require a column to enumerate
the maladies for which this preparation is a specific. >
few, lioweyer, may be enumerated, viz:—neuralgia, e
dolereaux headache, incipient paralysis, hysteria, pa'-
pitatiou of the heart, spiuwl affections, muscular debili
ty, tremors, flatulency-, a pricking sensation in the flesh
numbness, mental depression, weakness of the will, in
disposition to move, faintness after exercise, broken
sleep and terrifying dreams, inability to remain in one
place or position, weakness of the procreative organs,
sexual incompetency, melancholy, monomania, tiuor
aibus, sinking at the stomach, female irregularities, a
chronic tendency to miscarriage, emaciation, and all
complaints growing out of a free indulgence of the pas
sions, and all barreness that does not proceed from or
ganic causes, beyond the reach of medicine.
Whenever the organs to be acted upon are free from
malformation or strictural diseases, it is averred that
MORSE S INVIGORATING ELIXIR
will re-place w. akness with strength, incapacity with
efficiency, irregularity with uniform and natural ac
tivity, and this not only without hazard or re-aetiou,
but with a happy effect on the general organization.—
Bear in mind that all maladies, wherever they begin,
finish with the nervous system, and that tlreparaliza
tion of the nerve of motion and sensation is physical
death. Bear in mind, also, that for every kind of ner
vous disease the Elixir Cordial is the only reliable pre
paration known.
CURE OF NERVOUS DISEASES
No language can convey an adequate idea of the im
mediate, and almost miraculous change which it occa
sions in the diseased, debilitated and shattered n» vous
system, whether' broken down by excess, weak by na
ture. or impaired by sickness—the unstrung orrelaxed
organization is at once braced, re-vivified and built up.
The mental and physical symptoms of nervous disease
vanish together under its influence. Nor is the effect
temporary, on the contrary the relief is permanent—
for the Cordial properties of the medicine reach the
constitution itself, and restore - it to its normal condi-

A GREAT MEDICINE FOR FEMALES.
The unparalleled effects of this great restorative, in
all complaints incident to females, mark a new era in
the annals of medicine. Thousands of stimulants have
been invented—thousands of invigprants concocted—
all purporti g to be specified in the various diseases and
derangements, to which the delicate formation of wo
man render her liable.
EVERY WOMAN OF SENSE
who suffers from weakness, derangement, nervousness,
tremors, pains in the back, or any other disorder, whe
ther peculiar to her sex, or common in both sexes, to
give the Invigorating Cordial a trial.
MARRIED PERSONS
or others, will find this Cordial, after they have used a
bottle or two, a thorough regenerator of the system.
In all directions are to be found the happy j arents of
healthy , llspiing, who would not have been so but for
this extraordinary preparation: And it is equally po
tent for the many diseases for which it is recommended.
Thousands of young men have been restored by using
it and not in a single instance has it failed to benefit
them.
PERSONS OF DALE COMPLEXION,
of consumptive habits, are restored by the use of a
bottle or two to bloom and vigor, changing the skin
from a pole, yellow, sickly color, to a beautiful florid
complexion.
TO THE MISGUIDED.
These are some of the sad and melancholy effects
produced by early habits of you: h. viz: weakness of
the back and limbs, pains in the head, dimness of the
sight, loss of muscular power, palpitation of the heart,
dyspepsia, nervous irritability, derangement of the di
gestive functions, general debility, symptoms of con
sumption. Ac.
Mentally, the fearful effects on the mind are much
to bo dreaded. Loss of memory, confusion of ideas,
depression of spirits, evil forebodings, aversion to so
ciety, self distrust, love of solitude, timidity, &c., ear
some of the evilsproduced. All thus afflicted,
BEFORE. CONTEMPLATING MARRIAGE,
I should reflect that a sound mind and body are the most
necessary requisites to promote connubial happiness,
indeed, without these, the journey through life be
comes a weary pilgrimage—the prospect hourly dark
ens the view ; the mind becomes shadowed with despair
and tilled with melancholy reflection that the happi
ness of a another becomes blighted with vour own
CAUTION.
