FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs /
Office of the Fashion Line, )
Augusta, April 15,1854. (
THE subscriber would respectfully call tho at
tention of the Merchants throughout Georgia,
Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to the
Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and cheap
route for tho transportation of their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this lino with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per contage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed to
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with theseaboaid, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boqfs
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the
New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or
three times a week, delivering those Goods at this
point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the sea board should be directed
to M. A. Cohen, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
Jno. A. Moore, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as
well as to tho Cotton Merchants, and dealers gene
rally, on the line of Railroads through Georgia and
Tennessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern
markets, this routo offers very favorable induce
ments.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
Cohen, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. aprills

rup is recommended for all Scrofulous Affections,
Liver complaint, Ulcers, Rheumatism, Pimples,

The unequalled medical qualities of this purify

in the State of Georgia and Texas by the many
cures it has performed, and there are so many liv
ing to testify and to recommend it, that it requires
no further comments from the Proprietors, having

makes it so much the more valuable. The propor

CARTER’S SPANISH MIXTURE.
The great Sprit g Medicine and Purifier of the Blood
is now used by hundreds of grateful patients, who tes

greatest of all medicines. Carter's Spanish Mixture.
Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Scrofula. Eruptions on the
Skin. Liver Disease, Fevers, Ulcers, Old Sores. Affections
of the Kidneys, Diseases of the Throat, Female Com
plaints, Pains and Aching of the Bones and Joints, are
speedily put to flight by using this great and inestima
ble remedy.
For all diseases of the Blood, nothing has yet been
found to compare with it. It cleanses the system of
all impurities, acts gently and efficiently on the Liver
and Kidneys, strengthens the Digestion, gives tone to
the Stomach, makes the Skin clear and healthy, and
restores the Constitution, enfeebled by disease or bro
ben down by the excesses of youth, to its pristine vigor
and strength.
For the Ladies, it is incomparably better than all the
cosmostics ever used. A few doses of Carter’s Spanish
Mixture will remove all sallowness of complexion,
bring the roses mantling to the cheek, give elasticity to
the step, and improve the general health in a remarka
ble beyond all the medicines ever heard of.
A number of certificates of remarkable cures
performed on persons residing in the city of Richmond,

“We rejoice to inform you that this justly celebrated
medicine has fully maintained the exalted reputation
which has been given it, and having tested itivirtues
we unhesitatingly say it eminently deserves it.”
J. T. A J. W. Berry, Uniontown, Ky., July 21, 1852,
said: “We have heard of many cures performed by
the use of Dr. Hoofland’s Germau Bitters, and believe
it to be a valuable medicine.”
J. Grant, Irvine, Ky., June 26,1852, said : “ We have
succeeded in introducing your Hoofland Bitters; phy

Dr. P. Fatio A Bio., Knoxville, Tean., April 0, 1851,

AFFLICTED KRAD!
PHILADELPHIA MEDICAL HOUSE—Established2o
years ago by Dr. Kinkelin, corner of Third and
Union Streets, between Spruce and Pine, Philadelphia.
Invalids are apprised that Dr. Kinkelin confines his
practice to a particular branch of medicine, which en
gages his undivided attention. He cautious the unfor
tunate against the abuse of mercury ; thousands are
annually mercurialized out of life. Recent affections
are promptly extinguished.
Twenty years of experience in the treatment of a
class of diseases hitherto neglected and imperfectly un
derstood, has enablal Dr. Kinkelin, (author of a work
on Self Preservation,) to prove that nine tenths of the
causes of nervous debility, loeal and constitutional
weakness, mental and physical suffering, are traceable
to certain habits, forming the most secret yet deadly
and fatal springs of domestic misery and premature
mortality.
Take Particular Notice. —There is an evil habit.some
times indulged iu by boys, in solitude, often growing
up with them to manhood, and which, if not reformed
in due time, not only begets serious oostacles to matri
monial happiness, but gives rise to a series of protract
ted, insidious, and devastating affections. Few of those
who give way to this pernicious practice are aware of
the consequences, until they find the nervous system
shattered, feel strange and unaccountable feelings, aud
vague fears in the mind.
The unfortunate thus affected becomes feeble, is una
ble to labor with accustomed vigor, or to apply his
mind to study ; his step is tardy and weak, he is dull,
irresolute, and engages in his sport with less energy
than usual.
If he emancipate himself before the practice has
done its worst, aud enter matrimony, his marriage is
unfruitful, and his sense tells him that this is caused by
his early follies. These are considerations which should
awaken the attention of those similarly situated.
Marriage requires the fulfilment of several condi
tions, in order that it may be realiy the cause of mutu
al happiness. Could the veil which covers the origin
of domestic wretchedness be raised, and its true source
in every instance disclosed—in how many could it be
traced to physical disqualifications aud their attendant
disappointments I Apply then while it is yet time, iu
order to have your unstrung and relaxed organization
rebraced, revivified and strengthened.
Remember, he who places himself under Dr. Kiuke
lin’s treatment may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, aud rely upon the assurance, that the se
crets of Dr. K. s patients will never be disclosed.
Young man—let no false modesty deter you from
mzkingyour case known to one who, from education
aud respectability, can certainly befriend you.
Two many think they will conceal the secret in their
own hearts, and cure themselves. Alas! how often is
this a fatal delusion, aud how many a promising young
man, who might have been an ornament to society,
has faded from the earth.
Strictures of the urethra are rapidly' removed by the
application of a new therapeuticalagelit. used only by
Dr. K Weakness and constitutional debility promptly
cured, and full vigor restored.

plicitly, together with all their symptoms, per letter,
enclosing a remittance) Dr. K.‘s medicine,appropriated
accordingly.

READ TIIE FOLLOWING CERTIFCATE.
Tallapoosa County, Ala., Jun. 2,1852.
Dear Sir: —l send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Rock and Sarsaparilla has per
formed one of the most wonderful cures on me that
has ever been effected on man.
I have been afflicted for forty years with eruptions
on my legs and feet; in 1848 they got so bad that I had
to go on crutches, and in 1849 I had one leg amputated
above the knee. In about nine months after my other
leg broke out in large eating and running sores from
my knee to my foot, and discharged a great deal of of
fensive matter. My groin also broke out in large biles,
which discharged much offensive matter, and at the
same time my left hand broke out in large running
sores nearly'to my elbow.
The misery that 1 have suffered for the last two years
I cannot describe to you. 1 was in such agony that 1
never rested day or night.
In October last my son brought me one of your bot
tle wrappers; I read it. and found record'of some won
derful cures performed by your “ Extract of Yellow
lock and Sarsaparilla.” 1 sent and got two bottles of
it, and commenced taking it. In two weeks, to my
great astonishment, my sores all became easy, and I
could sleep all night, a thing X had not done for two
years. When I had taken six bottles, my sores had
enarly all healed. My sores got well as if by enchant
ment. 1 have now used, in all, eight bottles of your
Extract of Yellow Rock and Sarsaparilla,” aud 1 now
consider myself well.
I entreat'all of the afflicted to try this Medicine, for
believe it will cure any known disease in the world.
Lay' aside all prejudice and just try it, and proc'aim its
great worth to suffering mankind, aud entreat them to
take it, for it will curethem.
My ease is well known in a large portion of South
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if any should doubt
the above cure, 1 invite them to call onrne. aud I will
show them the scars. I can be found in Tallapoosa
County, Alabama, one mile from Stoe's Kerry.
REN AJ AT l UUGIIES.
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly adap
ted for females of delicate health, resulting frem Ir
regularities of menstrual discharges, and other diseases
peculiar to their sex. The proprietor has in his posses
sion a great number of certificates of cures performed
of tiie above description. We assure the afflicted, that
a bottle or two of Rr. Guysott's Extract of Yellow
Dock and Sarsaparilla will at once regulate those diffi
culties and renew the natural energies.

iilsal PILES.
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A
FAMILY PHYSIC.
There has long existed a public demand for nr
effective purgative pill which could be relied on as *
sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has
been prepared to meet that demand, and an extern
sive trial of its virtues has conclusively shown witt
what success it accomplishes the purpose designed
It is easy to make a physical pill, but not easy t<
make the best of all pi Us one which should hav«
none of the objections, but all the advantages, of
every other. This has been attempted here, am
with what success we would respectfully submit t<
the public decision. It has been unfortunate foi
the patient hitherto that almost every purgative
medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow
els. This is not. Many of them produce so muct
griping pain and revulsion in the system as to mor<
than counterbalance the good to be derived fron
them. These pills produce no irritation or pain
unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc
tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purelj*
vegetable, no harm can arise from their use 11* am
quantity ; but it is better that anv medicine slioulc
be taken judiciously. Minute directions for tlieii
use in the several diseases to which they are ap
plicable are given on the box. Among the com
plaints which have cured by them, vv«
inav mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms
of Jaundice, Indigestion, Langdor ar\d Loss of Ap
petite, Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side
and Loins; for, in truth, all these are but the con
sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an
aperient, they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos
tiveness, Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof
ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body.
Ulcers and impurity of the blood; in short, any
and every case where a purgative is required.
They Have also produced some singularly suc
cessful cures in Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel
Erysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart, Pains in tht
Back, Stomach, and Side. They should be freely
taken in the spring of the year, to purify the blood
and prepare the system for the change of seasons.
An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and
bowels into healthy action, and restores the appe
tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by theii
stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno
vate the strength of Fi? body, and restore the
wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism.
Hence sin occasional dose is advantageous, even
though no serious derangement exists; but un
necessary dosing should never be carried too far,
as every' purgative medicine reduces strength,
when taken to excess. The thousand eases in which
a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, but
they suggest themselves to the reason of every
body; and it is confidently believed this pill will
answer a better purpose than any thing which has
hitherto been available to mankind. When theii
virtues are once known, the public will no longci
doubt what remedy to employ when in need of t
cathartic medicine. Being sugar-wrapped they ar<
pleasant to take, and being purely vegetable, nc
harm can arise from their use in any quantity.

SSOO CHALLENGE.
HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP.— An article
founded upon Scientific Principles, compound
ed with purely Vegetable substances, being per
fectly safe when taken, and has never been known
to fail in curing the most obstinate case. Worms
can never exist when this remedy is once used,
from the fact that it not only destroys them but
removes all the slime and mucus which may re
main.
THE TAPE WORM.
This worm is the most difficult one to destroy oi
all that inhabit the human body. It grows to an
almost indefinite length, and becoming so coiled
and fastened in the intestines and stomach as to
produce fits, St. Vitus’ Dance, Ac., which is the
cause of many going to the grave, not believing
that theso complaints have their origin from the
Tape Worm; consequently they do not use the
proper medicines for their disease. To those who
are afflicted with this awful foe to health, I recom
mend the use of my Worm Syrup, and Livcr,Pills,
the Syrup to be taken in doses of two tablojspoon
fuls three times a day, then take from five to eight
of my Liver Pills, to dislodge and pass the worm.
By strictly following these directions, the mc-st ob
stinate cases of Tape Worm can bo speedily cured.
ROUND OR STOMACH WORM.
This worm is usually found in the small intes
tines, and is thoworminost common to childron,
yet it is not entirely confined to them, as adults
have frequently been known to suffer with them.
The Symptoms most prominent while affected with
this worm, aro hardness and fullness of the belly,
slimy stools, looseness of the bowels, picking at the
nose, a blucish streak under the eyes, &c. If you
or any of your children have any of the above
symptoms. HOBENSACK’S WORM SYRUP can
safely bo depended upon—by using it ycu have a
certain, safe, and speedy cure; and if after using
t according to the directions, the patient is not
restored to health, and the worms thoroughly era
dicated from the system, you can rest assured there
is no remedy beyond the grave, as lor fail, there is
no such word as fail with those who use my Worm
Syrup.
ASCARIDES OR SMALL THREAD WORMS
These worms, to which the human system is lia
ble, aro the most troubksme of all others. They
are generally to bo foundin the rectum, and if al
lowed to remain, from the irritation they produce,
lay the foundation for serious disorders, such as
inflammation of the bowels, and other derange
ments of the stomach. The best and safest medi
cine that can be used is HOBENSACK’S WORM
SYRI.P. Such is the astonishing power of my
medicines over Ascaradies, that I defy any one to
produce a caso where my Worm Syrup and Liver
Pills are recommended to be used they will not cure,
All that is necessary is to use the Syrup in accord
ance with directions on each bottle; and in case a
gentle purgative is required in ordor to allay tne
irritation they produce, the Liver Pills by their
sympathizing action and healthy operation upon
the bowels, is tlfe most pleasant medicine that can
be taken.
