continued for various reasons. His Honor
will probably hold a special levee for their
benefit early in the week.
Several cases were up for shooting inside
the incorporation line. Each paid five dol.
lars and the thing was hushed up.
Court then adjourned.

Mayor’s Court is thronged at every hehdom- 1

seem to be exerting themselves somewhat to !
bring culprits to justice. And as a result of

in the city. Rowdies and villains generally i

to bear this testimony of the police, and hope

Betford, in the edge of Martin county, is

was suddenly attacked with the Johnson
“grip,” the same disease that was so fatal in
Mr. Tyler's administration, on the 22d inst.,
in front of the White House, Washington,
which carried him off before a sis'ance could
be rendered. It is proposed to deposit bis
remains in the museum;of the Smithsonian
Insti'ute. as a most wonderfu specimen of a

Grapes Along Lake Eais.- Mr. Elliott, of
Cuyahoga county, furnishes the Ohio Farmer
a careful compilation of the amount of land
in grape vines along the shores of L ike Erie,
inc'uding the islands, thence east into West
•rn New York, showing there are now, in
hearing, in that region, 1,500 acres, and 1,500
more which are planted, but not y.et come
i into bearing, giving at the present time 3 000
acres ot grape vineyards Large pieparatons
are on foot for the planting of grapes in the
spring, so that the south shore of Lake Erie
will be the greatest vine growing region in
the country.. Supposing the 1,500 acres of
vines in feewring to be devoted to wine-mak
ing, and yield 400 gallons per acre, we ehould
have an aggregate of (100,000 gallons of wine
for a year’s vintage. ♦. large portion of
these grapes are consumed as fruit, or ship
ped to distant wa-kele for tabla, use, to which
they are admirably adapted by their firmnesss
