Ministers Interviewed.
"' A report has been circulated that the Leader-Enterprise has re
fused to publish church notices without compensation, Just how the
report originated we are unable to say, but we can say that there is
not a minister in the city who has ever paid us one cent for the pub
lication of bis notices, and we have never required it of them. We
have stated in these columns before that we are glad to accept these
notices as news items and always use them unless lack of space for
bids, and in many instances we have left out live news matter in order
to make a place for the church potices. The only reqnest we make of
the ministers is that they bring their notices in en time, and if they
are here before noon on Thursday they are sure of publication.
We do not think any fair minded or unprejudiced person would
attach ary importance to this current report, but in order to clear
ourselves beyond any shadow of doubt, we are publishing below a
signed interview from each one of the ministers of the city, with the
excepting of Rev. Guyton Fisher, whom we were unable to interview
as he is away from the city. Theinterviews follow:
It gives me pleasure to state that I have at all times received
courteous treatment from the editors of the Leader-Enterprise and
they have never failed to accept my notices and if any charge was
made for same, I have never been notified. I feel very grateful to
them for the readiness with which they always received any notice I
wished published, NG
by J. L. Leichhter,
Pastor U, B. Church.
I take pleasure in stating for publication that 1 have always been
treated with the utmost cordiality in the office of the Leader-Enter
prise, the publishers always seeming willing and glad to publish my
church aunovncements, and I have never been assessed any charges
for such pubhications, -
‘ Signed,
Thomas M. Callaway, :
Pastor First Baptist Church.
lam pleased to testify td the willingness of the Leader-Enter
prise to print our Church notices and any Church news we have ever
sent in and no charge whatever has ever been made.
tx Ry Lewis C. Hammond,
Minister of the Central Christian Church,
Learning that someone has circalated a report to the effect that
the Leader-Enterprise has notified pastors that church notices in
future will be published only when paid for, I gladly state that the
managers of the paper have made no such statement to me, but have
always courteously published free of charge all notices left at the
office in time for publication.
: E. .J. Hammond,
Pastor First M. E, Church.
To whom it may concern: Whoever says that the Fitzgerald
Leader-Enterprise refuses or bas ever refused to print any of my
chureh notices is guilty of braking that Commandment of God, whichi
says “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
Such a person or persons wilfully doing this is not only seeking
to injure their iocal paper, but trying to shield himself under the pro
tection of the church, but like a boom-erang it will fly back and hurt
the Author in the long run more than any one else, The Leader
Enterprise has always acted very courteously toward us and printed
all notices free. e S
8. G. Hutton, Pastor Presbyterian Church.
