Charges Against State
Board of Health.
Atlanta, June 27.—The following
is the full text of the resolutions in
troduced in the legislature by Rep
resentative Brown, of Fulton, calling
for a complete investigation of the
state board of health:
“Whereas, charges have been
made against the state board of
health; and -
“Whereas, the relation of this
board to the general public and the
medical profession is of such char
acter as to demand the utmost con
dfience on the part of the people of
the state in its integrity.
“Therefore be it resolved, that a
committee of two from the senate
and three from the house be ap
pointed to inquire into the manage
ment of the state board of heaith;
and said committee shall have pow
er to send for persons and papers,
and to administer oaths, and said
committee shall make its report at
regular session of the legislature in
1912, if practicable, and if not it
shall report to the governor after
adjournment.”
The resolution means that the
charges rade several months ago
by Dr. Willis Westmereland against
Dr. H. F. Harris (Roy) Harris, of the
board, and against the board itself,
alleging inefficiency and incompe
tency and neglect of duty on Dr.
Harris’ part, will now be investigated
on their merits.
Dr. Westmoreland, former presi
dent, resigned from the board of
health, about the same time he
brought the charges, declaring that,;
with the board in the condition it/
was, he could hold the office in jus-g
tice to the public and himself.
Many of his charges against Dr.
Harris embodied accusations of the
greatest disregard of the public wel
fare, and consequently the investi
gation will be awaited with intense
interest. {

‘Keep Money at Home’ Policy
Atlanta, June 25.—The “ Keep
money at home” which has been
preached for years by leading south
ern business men, is beginning to
bear fruit in many ways, according
to statistics obtainable at the capi
tol here.
The public at large is benefitting
from the patronage of home insti
tutions by having more available
money in circulation for trading and |
borrowing and lending. - The insti
tutions are benefitting by getting
the business, and in their growth
reflecting the growth of the whole’
section.
A notable instance of how this!
works out ie furnished by Georgia's
own State Mutual Life Insurance
company at Rome, which has prac
tically completed its handsome now
four-story building, one of the finest |
and most substantial in the south. |
The actual work of moving into the |
new quarters will begin in July. Thel
new building will represent additions
and radical improvements made on
the old structure which has been
the company’s home.
