Is Killing of Game Birds }
Responsible for Pests?
Thomasville, Ga., June 30. -
Many people in this section are of
the opinion that the thinning out
of the game birds by hunters 1s
the cause of the great invasion of
worms, bugs, grasshopppers, etc.,
of which the farmers are com
plaining so much this year, and
there is a discussion in regard to
getting a bill passed for a closed
season for ten years.
It is thought that this closed
season would give the birds the
opportunity to increare in such
numbers that they would kill cut
all insec!s that are irjurious to the
crops. Some of the farmers, how
ever, are of the opinion that there
were just as many bugs, worms,
etc., at different period: in years
gone by as there have been of late
and think that the wet weather of
the past winter and spring had
much to do with the invasion of
them this year. .
It is said that an effort may be
made to have the bill for a closed
season passed, however, by chose
who believe that to be the only
hope to stop the return of these
destroyers of the crop.

Giever And Timothy
Hay In South Georgia
Jesup, Ga., Jupe 29 —Conclu
sive proof of the fact that both
clover and timothy hay can be
grown in South (Georgia, has just
been produced in the exhibition of
a well cured bundle in the oflice of
Dr. J. G. Tuten, and which was
grown on one of his lots in this
city., Both the timothy and clover
is well headed, and are as good
specimens of this vaiuable crop as
one will often see.
The manver of Its advent into
this section bears a significant re
lation between the relative value
of barnyard and commercial ferti
lizer, and should awaken the farm
ers to the realization of the fact
that the former builds up the land
on which it 1s distributed, and |
originates the growt! of this valn
able crop, while the latter merely
stimulates the land for the life of
the one application and deducts
materially from the profits at the
end of the season leaving the land
in no better coadition than it was
prior to the treatment which is
erroneously considered absolutelv
necessary.
The seed was broadcast in some
stall bedding which eontained
some of tne hay which had been
shipped from a Northern market,
and only needed sowing in connec
tion with the natural fertilizer to
promote the growth,
When the farmers once learn
and earpnestly observe, that the
stock which is raised, and grazed,
and retained on one farm is, in
the fundamental sense of the word,
their first source of revenue, and
that the result of the feeding of
their stock on their farms will
more than take the place of com
mercial fertilizer, and that the
building up process will take the
place of deterioration, which is
brought about by neglizent atten
tion to facts, then the profit which
is justly theirs wili accrue to them
ana prosperity will begin.
