A High Compliment to Hon. D. L. Martm.
M
To the Voters of Ben Hill County: ,
At an impromptu meeting of a number of Mr. D. L. Martin’s
appreciative friends, they decided it would be good idea to set forth
a few facts in regard to the benefits the county and city are receiv
ing from the indefatigable efforts of Mr. D. L. Martin in securing
for the county and city our very successful Fair last fall, and now
in securing the grand location of our coming Fair, and the success
of his efforts in organizing the agricultural organization and pur
chasing the finest property in the county for a permanent fair
grounds, all of which our progressive citizen, Mr. D. L. Martin, is
entitled to the credit for.
A straw ballot taken by one citizen among the farmers visit
ing our city in one day, thirty-seven were asked **Who are you go
ing to support for the legislature?”’ Thirty said Mr. D. L. Martin,
with many remarking, “Mr. Martin is doing us farmers a great
benefit in establishing our agricultural organization and County
Fair, and is deserving of the compliment of sending him to the
legislature.”’
" A casual call on eleven merchants, the same question was
asked, and nine Mr. Martin and two for Mr. Paulk. One merchant
made the statement that last fall’s Fair was worth $500.00 to him,
and he thanked Mr. Martin for it. ‘‘Straws show which way the
wind blows.”’ -
With due regard to the other candidate, we believe in reward
for true merit, Therefore be it :
Resolved, That we honestly believe that our farmers and
merchants and ecitizens in general are endowed with practical busi
ness ability, and will therefore reward Mr. Martin for his indefati
gable work. He is now working for all our interests, working
irom early morning until late at night on our Fair Grounds. Heis
not neglecting his duties to peramulate the streets button holing his
constituents and begging for votes, but will attend to his business
as of yore and leave his political interests in the hands of his many
friends, and trust to an appreciative constituency to cast their vote
for Mr. D. L. Martin, a man of fine address, a good speaker, a
man who will use his best ability, energv and manlv push in the
legislature for the best interests of Ben Hiil county as he is now
doing. [Signed] CITIZENS.
