The Poultry Association should begin to agitate the Pqulfirv. éhouf
at the Ben Hill County Fair. Last year’s poultry exhibit was a credit
%o the county, and surely 1912 should be an improvement over 1911,
P resident Martin 1s working on the 1912 premium list, and some nice
prizes will be awarded the successful contestants. :

With Judge J. B. Clemer ts representing Irwin County, Hon, W.
T. Paulk, Ben Hill and Col. Otis H. Elkins Senator from the Fifteenth
Senatorial district, this neck’ of the woods will be pretty well repre
sénted in the Georgia Legislatare, : ) g
We tried to make a slight change in the arrapgements but the
msjority of the voters didn’t agree with us, however, after the elec
tion, we see it all alike. i
Mr, O. P, Rogers, near Lyuwood School, is still confined to his bed,
owing to a sericus accident that happehed to him while drivi;xg:up:znz
the Ocilla Southern erossing on the Ly'nwc‘)oq road about three weeks
azo. The County Commissioners 8s well ‘as the Reilroad Company’s
attenticn had bezn frequently called to the unsafe constivetion: of the
approach to the treck, but no attention was paid to the constant warn
ing. : Mr, Rogers’, nccident is one iof several that have occurred on
this grade crossing. It is up o the County Commissioners to see iL

The Ben Hill Conuty Fair, which opéns Oct, 98th, ' promisés to
be the best cver held i South Georgia. ~ President D. L, Martin has
about finished the race track and 1s beginning the erection of the Ex
position Buildipgs.. THeé plans have been ‘i)er;fccted and a commodi
ous building adapted to the purpose will ke ready for the exhibits,
: Irwin and Wilcox counties will have County exhibits at ' the Fair
and several prominent farmers and poultry raisers from thiese coun
ties have already spoken for space for individual exhibits, Our own
people will find it necessary 0 begin to make preparations for their
own exhibits. in order to compete successfully with their neighbors
from Irwin and Wilcox. ‘ ; ' :
. The State Convention will have to solve the unusual problem of
two contested State House cflices. The race for Commissioner of
Agriculture presents,a peculiar condition—J. J. Brown, on the face of
the returns, shows more counties carried and a popular vote of ap
pi'oximately 10,000 above his nearest rival, J. D, Price, Price is
second in the race and Blalock third.
In all propability the Convention will elect Mr, Brown as he ap
pears to be the choice of the voters.
In the race for Judge of the Court of Appeals Judge Pottle and
Judge Proyles each received 184 convention votes, though Judge
Pottle has about 3,000 more popular votes than Judge Broyles, and
will no doubt be declared the winner. !

Ladic's Suits, Dresss p:id Ready

Increased ' Stock in ‘Men's' Fine {
Clothing, Great Variety in Mens,
Women and Children’s High Grade
Shées. Mr. W. R. Bowen, states
that 'the Stock Surpasses any
Previous effort)in the/ Store’s
History, ’ |1 B
‘The modern department Store
idea is the big idea in merchan
dise today. It’s the doing of the
big business at the minimum ex
pense. Of the dozen or so dif
ferent 'departments at the Em
pire Store we daresay each of
Ltfiem is as fully complete as if
run in @ separate store, while
the expense of handling it is cut
‘down perhaps one half. 'Bigger
buying power, bigger selling
. power and so lower prices.
- Messrs Bowen and Murphy,
just back ‘from purchasing the
‘Fall ainld Winter stock for the
iEmpire Store, are enthusiastic
over their purchase for the com
l-ing season, The ability to hand-lel
large quantities of gocd merchan
dise placed in the closest’ touch
with manufacturers of the lead
ing’ lines of ladies’ goods, and
they say' they’ bought with the
idea of supplying their trade and
‘this section particularly with the
snappicst, most stylish- lines of
Suits, Dresses 'and 'Ready-to
wear garments at the most at
tractive prices. ' Mr.” Murphy
stated that the linz of'all woo!
suits would start as low as $9 98
in ladies’ and range upwarc to
$3O, with exceptionally fine suits
at $l5, $16.50 and $18; and in
Misses’ and’ ‘Childrens’ ‘Dresses,
fine wool materials, prices would
range Jrom $2.98 upward. Fol
lowing their idea as practiced in
the Spring there will be no du
plicates in the finer suits and
dresses, and purchasers will have
dresses that are individual. In
other words, it is the idea of the
Empire Store to give the people
of this section all the advantages
of buying in the larger cities at
a decided saving in price. AS
every article sold by the store
carries with it the guarantee of
satisfaction to the purchaser it
goes without saying the generous
increase in stock this season will
meet with ready buying respon
ses from the people of Fitzgerald
and surrounding cities. :
In the men’s 'department the
stock is unique. - Hart, Shaffner
& Marx clothing which is special
ized by the Empire Store, have
gone to the greatest effort in
getting out the snappiest 'line of
Fall 'and Winter suits Through
special arrangement all novelties
will have no 'duplicates.’ Only
one suit of a pattern, which wilt
no doubt be extremely satisfac
tory to the dressy young ‘nien of
the. community. ‘Over seventeen
illions of dollars worth of thése
high class ‘clothes were sold in
America and Europe:last year to
‘the good clothes wearers of both
‘c ntinents, Mr. Bowen sgi? that
the men.of Fitzgerald” fully ap~
praciate the: valuetof 'this line
