Romance Touches -
Miss Helen Tait
San Francisco, Sept. 15.—1 n
the arrival of Captain Graham L.
L. Johnson, {ormer military aide
to President Taft at the white
house, who was relieved summa
rily from his Washington duty
last December and ordered to the
Philippines, the friends of the
young officer believe they see be
hird the scenes a romance that
probably will come to a head
early in the season, if the society
gossips in the natienal capitol are
to be believed. :
Captain Johnson is en route to
Washington, traveling just be
hind his official resignation from
the service, which he forwarded
to the department from the
islands only a short time ago.
The resignation is to take effect
October 20, and it is said the rea
son is to' be found with Helen
Taft.
For two years during the time
ECaptain Johnson was stationed
at the white house he was much
in company with Miss Taft.
About a year ago a report of their
engagement was published, but
on the following day it was de
nied by the president and Mrs.
Taft. Captain Johnson, who is
31 years old, owns large estates
in Virginia and Georgia and was
in the army only because he loved
a soldier’s life.
