Fraud Found All
Over the. State
Spartanburg, S. C, Sept 25.
John T. Duncan, of the defeated
candidates for the gubernatorial
democratic nomination in the re
cent primary, made sensational
charges today before the sub
committee of the state democratic
executive committee investiga
ing charges of fraud in ils sec
ond day’s session here. Ile as
serted that he had been told by
a responsible person that $lOB,-
000 had been used by friends of
Judge Ira B. Jones, another de
feated candidate in the primary.
He said that $3OO was used at one
precinct. He advocated another
primary. No names were given,
and the cOmmittee instructed
him to furnish this inforn.ation.
‘The riotous scenes of yester
day afternoon were replaced to
day by a dignified and orderly
meeting. None of the men who
caused yesterday’s trouble were
present. It is expected that the
svb-committee work will be fin
ished today, and preparations
will be made to report to the ex
ecutive committee in Columbia,
October 1.
W. B. Wilson, Jr., a commit
teeman, reported today that in
many counties he found evidence
of fraud, while in others he found
that there had been no contests
of irregularties.
Five Men Are Fined
$lOO Each at Waycross
Wayecross, Sept. 25.—Five §lOO
fines for violation of the city
whisky law were imposed in po
lice court today by Mayor Reed.
Four fines were drawn by white
men. .

Gear; Fatally Hurt
Waycross, Sept. 25. When he
cranked his automobile, after
leaving it in low gear, W. L.
Clubb, a young white man, who
lived in Brunswick prior to com
ing here four months ago, was
caught in some manner by the
machine, tonight, and dragged
300 feet, when the driverless:
auto plunged into the city canal
on Alice street. Clubb was caught
under the radiator and was prob
ably fatally injured.
The machine was a five-passen
ger car and Clubb was using it as
a hack. The car ran down hill,
which gave it considerable speed
before it plunged into the canal.
Clubb managed te crawl 100 feet
to the city waterworks, where he
feel unconscious. He seems to
be internally injured.
Treasury Seal Older
Than U. S. Government
Washington, Sept. 24.—The
design of the seal of the treasury
of the United States in all its
essential features is older than
the National government.
This interesting fact has just
been developed by an investiga
tion by the treasury department
tracing the history of the seal.
The continental cengress ordered
its construction September 26,
1778, appointing John Wither
spoon, Governor Morris and R.
H. Lee a committee on design
There is no recrd of the report
of the committee, but impres
sions of the seal have been found
as early as 1782
