Gary, Ind., Oct. 21.—The fun
eral of Billy Rugh, the newsboy,
who gave his crippled leg that
skin might be grafted onto the
of Miss Ethel Smith, thereby,
saving her life, was held here Sun
day, and practically all Gary and
many from surrounding towns at
tended. No- building was large
enough to accommodate the crowd
and the services were held in the
street,
Four brass bands played funeral
dirges, six uniformed policemen
were pallbearers, and a fire depart
ment automobile was the funeral
car, while a company of firemen
carried the flowers. Mayor T. E,
Knotts snd the councilmen with
bared heads walked at the head of
the procession which conveyed
the body to the railway depct,
where it was put aboard a train
for Rock Island, Il
Many women were in the line,
which required more than an hour
to pass the bier, which had been
placed in the middle of the street.
Miss Smitk. was not able to at
tend, but her father and brothers
were in the audience.
