THE above is a common enquiry wherever the won- I

The following is one among many of a similar char* 4
acter, that are daily reported, of cures eefected with
out seeing the patient, which, taken coilec ively and
properly arranged, might fill a volume, but as the space j
in a public journal is necessarily limited, the afflicted ,
must be contented with a small portion at a time.
The succeeding extracts of letters are material to the
point and are given in the plain language of the writers !
—truth needs no varnish.
On the 20th Fehiuary, Silas Mole, of Murray coun- •
ty, Georgia, made application bv letter, for medicine (
for his daughter Mary, w ho is a lady well advanced in
file, then laboring under a severe attack ol Dropsy— ‘
she tiad ever s nee her arrival at womanhood, labored
under Dysmennorihcea m its worst form, often sutler- !
ing great periodical pain, till at about the “turn ot fife,”
she was attacked with severe and wasting Mennor
rhagia. This loss of blood brought on Dropsy, from ]
which she could find no reliet. On the 25t!i ol Februa
ry, the first medicine was sent. On the 2J April, the
iollowing report was received :
Dr. Thomson— Dear Sir: I now undettake to iu- !
form you how your medicine has ope rated on my .laugh- {
ter ; she commenced taking medicine on the 3U March,!
she was then very much swelled in her body and ail j
over her, with great soreness; about the Bili or ‘Jill and y a;- j
; ter commencing, she was much wor e than ever before, I
I but after that, she appeared to mend slow ly, though
; still sore and much swelled—she has been so that site
: could not get up out ot her chair, nor walk one step
| without help, whereas she can now get up herself and
walk ucross the house once or twice without heip—she
\ still cannot lie down to sleep, but sits in her chair both
day and night. I wish you to send us further instruc
! tions—enclosed, &c. SILAS MOTE.
On the 14th May, the report is:
j Dear Sir, —I again write you a few lines to let you
; know the state of my daughter’s health at this time
1 She is considerably improved since I last wrote you, I
hut is not yet well, and 1 think will require anew sup
ply of mcdicince ; she is much better than she was,
, though considerably swelled in her body yet—she rests
well of a night, can lie down and sleep well all night,
can walk about the house and to the kitchen and back
again. 1 wish you to send whatever is necessary. En- ;
closed, &c. SILAS MOTE.
No more was heard from the patient t'll ihe other
day, when the annexed letter came to hand, some of
the expressions personal to himself, he lias taken the (
liberty to soften down.
Dalton, Nov. 19th, 1848. 1
Dr. Thomson —Dear Sir: VV ith the greatest grati
tude I now write to you, as 1 think you entitled to the
highest praise I could bestow on any man, for 1 think
your skill surpasses that ol any Doctor in itiis or any
other country, for through your skill and the blessing
of Almighty God, my daughter is restored to pert, ct
health, just as it were from the brink ot the grave,
wbeu ali hopes weie gone. IJerciy is long live Dr.
Thomson, her good wishes will never cease while she
lives—she wishes very much to see you, and it you
ever come to Dalton, you must be sure to call on us.
1 think the restoration of her health one of the great
est miracles ever performed by any Doctor. 1 have
been waiting since the last of August to see whether
she would need anymore, but I think her health is
perfectly restored, for she looks belter, and she says
feels better than she basin years. Enclosed, &,c.
SILAS MOTE.
Accompahying the above is a note lioui A. E. Blunt,
Esq. Fost Master in Dalton, who says :
Dr. Thomson —Dear Sir: You will find enclosed
five dollars, sent by Mr. S. Mote, which you will
place to his credit.
Miss Mary Mote is a near neighbor, and when 1 saw
her one year ago I then thought she could not live a
monih. Since she begin to take your medicine, she
ha 9 been relieved to the astonishment of ail her neigh
bors, and is now in her usual health, to her own sur
prise. With respect, youts truly,
A. E. BLUNT, P. M.

CULLODEN, Ga. February 18. 1817.
Dk. Marshall— Dear Sr: 1 feel constrained by a |
sense ot duty, growing out of a grateful remembrance
ot the signal benefit which lias resulted to myself from
your treament for ft cnnccrous Bflection, under which J j
suffered tor some tune, to give you, under my own hand j
a statement of all the lacts involved, leaving it at your |
discretion to give that statement publicity or not, as
you may think proper.
In the beginning of the summer of 1846,1 discovered
a small tumor or pimple on rather the innereide of the
lower lip, near the right corner o( the mouth. ’1 his for
some lime, gave me no uneasiness, as 1 supposed it a
matter ot no moment. It continued to increase in size
until the month of September or October, when it be
came exceedingly paintul. 1 procured the advice of sev
eral nu'dical men, who stood high in their profession,
and was encouraged by them to feel no uneasiness, as
it had none of the characteristics of a Cancer. Caustics
and other remedies, usual v applied for the removal ot
pimples and wai ts, were recommended by them, and
used by me tor a length ol tune, but without benefit.—
On the contrary, under the irritating influence of these
applications, n extended more rapidly, and finally be
came exceedingly painful. It had grown in six months
to be the size of a dime coiit. 1 was recommended by
my friends—among whom l will mention Dr. A. C.
Rogers, ot Crawford county, a well known pinsician
to place myselffonder youi treatment. 1 had but little
hope of recovery, but as I could expect notin “g less than
a horrible death, it the di-ease continued its ravages,’ 1
concluded to follow the counsel ot my friends. Oil the
7tli day of December last 1 placed myself under your
treatment, nndci ntmued subject to jour prescriptions
for three weeks, at the end ot which time 1 returned
home completely cured And the flung not the least
marvellous in tins most miraculous cure is, that not
withstanding the size of the cancer, and the depth which
it bad affected the surrounding pans, iheie is now
scarcely any scar perceptible.
I know it may, and no doubt will be said that mine
was not a case of cancer Ot one t .dug, however, lam
satisfied, that without a cure, 1 must have died ol the
disea-e, and that very soon. The remedies in common
ti*e had tailed—it had all tiie appearances, and produced
all the peculiar sensations ot pain, said by physicians to
mark the character ot Cancer, ana hence I make no
hesitation in saying that it was a cancer—and 1 speak
from a conviction produced by happy experience, when
I say, that it taken in lime, your treatment will cure
in every case.
I should not have performed my whole duty, if I were
to conclude this statement without recommending to all
having cancerous affections to place themselves under
your treatment without delay, and the word of a man
w ho has tried it, tney will be healed.
Respectfully. JAMES SMITH.
MACON, Ga.
My Dear Sir: I take great pleasure in contributing
the mite ol my experience and confidence in the effici
ency of your practice and treatment ot those cases of
diseases mentioned in your pamphlet. Ot the means
ot treatment, l ain unable to speak—these beingconfin
ed to your own practice and professional reseatcb ; but
fully confide in the efficacy ol iliose means from the ef
fects I have known produced—These effects seem not
confined to the locality of the disease, but to pervade
the whole system ; imparting renewed vigoi to the con
stitution and thus characterizing \out treatment as both
local and constitutional. Ot all the cases under your
professional care, which I have noticed—and these are
not ale individuals with a single exception,
have avowed to me that their general heauli had great
ly imp oved, and their systems seem to have been ren
ovated. In my individual case, I was greatly reduced
front the ravages of tins loathsome disease, my friends
supposed nte in a rapid decline; my professional pur
suits were almost entirely abandoned, and I had given
up to linger out a living death. Hearing accidentally
ot your treatment and the success which attended it, I
repelled the prejudices which tin individual and undi
vulged system of practice had prompted, and placed my
selt unreservedly under yourcomiol. In a very short
time 1 found the disease yielding and my,health improv
ing, and in two months 1 felt my constitution renewed
and the disease reduced to the smallest compass. I ant
now in better health, than 1 have been in seven years
I r viously—and il 1 should again relapse into the ago
nies of the disease, 1 would, with the utmost confi
dence, replace myself under your treatment.
I deem it but proper to state that since you first came
to Macon in 1815, that success w ith which you have
met and subdued disease, has inspired an almost gener
al confidence in your practice ; and the doubt w hich at
first prevailed as to your ability to cure Cancer, Fistula,
cic., seems to have modified into a doubt as to the rem
edies and means of your treatment. I take great plea
sure in hearing my humble testimony to your high char
acter as a gentleman, and to the kindness and cour
tesies w ith w hich you are universally received and
cherished here.
Yours Respectfully, S. R. BLAKE.
Dr. W. VV. Marshall.
Dear Sir: I (eel a peculiar pleasure in giving my tes
timony in favor of the method pursued by Dr. VV. VV.
Marshall, (formerly of Virginia, now a resident of this
place,) in treating Cancer, Fistula, and ail similar
complaints. For ourself, there is nothing we detest so
heartily as quackery in any department ot human knowl
edge or ingenuity. We can assure the public, there is
none in the pretensions of Dr. M. The cases lie has
cured of late in this place, are numerous, myself among
the number.
The Doctor lias patients from the remotest parts of
the Union, who place themselves under his cure, at this
place, upon the iccommendaiion of others who have
been made whole by hi* instrumentality. We would
advise all those afflicted with the above diseases, to ap
ply immediately to Dr. M. in whom they will fin ‘ all
the traits which characterize the gentleman and the
philanthropist. ST LANIER.
Mr. Lanier is favorably known as the former propri
etor ol the Hall, and now piopietor ol the
Floyd House, at Mu Con. All communications uddress
