Leaving the stilts of egotism and shafts of ridicule
for the use of those who h ive nothing better to stand
on, and no other weapons for attack or delence, he se
lects his standing on truth, and uses such support only
as merit gives him ; and for weapons, he chooses simply
to assail the ntnk3 of the enemy occasionally with “a
little more g •ape,” in the form offsets, which are evi
dently the hardest hind ot arguments since they often
administer to his quiet amusement by the terrible de
struction they cause among the suits and the ludicrous
effect they produce in causing certain individuals!©

Georgia, Jones Countv, 1848.
This certifies that for more than lour or live years
,ny wife was afflicted with a disease peculiar to her
sex, and notwithstanding all that we could do, she still
continued to get worse. The Phyicians in attendance
had exhausted their skill without rendering her any as
sistance till, in 1814, when she was confined to her bed
in a very low condition, I got her last attendant to go
with me to Macon and lay her case before Or. M.
Thomson, who without having seen her, prescribed
and sent her medicine that soon relieved her, and in
the course of a short time restored her to permanent
health She has now been well about four years and
rejoices in the recovery ot her long lost health.
FRANCIS B. tiASCAL.
Macon, June22J, 1818.
Dr. M. S. Thomson,
Dear Sir. —Deeming it a duty I owe to yourself as
well as to the atfficed generally, I have concluded lo
give you a short statement ot my case, which you are
at liberty to publish it you think that tin oest mode o|
thereby subserving the interests of suffering immuni
ty.
In may 1841, after considerable exposure to cold, 1
was attacked vvitn Asthma, which prostrated me veiy
much, and notwithstanding all thatcouid be done to
prevent it, it continued to return nboutevery two weeks
till in 1816,1 applied to you. Between these attacks!
had a very severe cough, which ledsome oftiie physi
cians to whom I applied to believe that I had consump
tion. I applied to physicians ot both the Mineral and
Botanic schools, of eminent general qualifications, but
all to no benefit, tor I continued to get worse, so much
so ;hat I had reduced, from being a strong fleshy man
down to n mere skeleton and could hardly creep about.
When 1 applied to you, I bad but little faith in being
cuied, though I had witnessed some wonderful results
following your treatment, especially ihe cure of that
crazy woman yon bought ot Aquilla Phelps, in Jasper,
yet they gave me confidence an i by persevering in the
use of your remedies, and as it were hoping against
hope, 1 am much gra ified in being able to announce
that I havegot entirely well, lor I have had but one light
attack in twenty months, and that was eight months
ago. 1 have now regained about my former weight,
and feci ns strong asaimost any man of fifty-one, which
is my age. Without disparagement to the character
< f the othr-r cures that have so frequently resulted from
vow practice, I do not think that any ot them can beat
vis, lor confirmed Asthma combined with a Consump
■ ce cougn, especially fwhete the flesh lias wasted, has
.ongbeen classed among the incureables.
Most respectfully, yours, H. LIGHTFOOT

More than one half of the cases that have come un

without experiencing ihe least benefit, but rather made
worse. They were perfectly cured by Dr. M. without
the use ol the knile.or any such operation, witnout
the least danger, and with but lit’ie or no pain, in
most cases tne treatment does not prevent the ordinary
pursuits ot business, although the p tient is necessarily

of tne Doctor hour one to lour weeks, accordingly as
t denature and circumstances of thecas-* may demand.
Dr. M. does not exaggerate, when he says that the
plan of treatment he pursues is obliged to succeed in

Dear Sir : Incompliance with your request, I send

of Fistula. I applied to you in August, 1846, to treat
the case which has been standing lor ten months ora

irom your treatment, and in the following Spring 1 re- t
turned to Georgia, lhaving been compelled to leave
for home before the disease had entirely disappeared J
