The undersigned have had the pleasure of eiara
inu g the last edition of Colton’s General Atlas,
containing 170 steel plate maps, accompanied by
statistical, geographical and historical descriptions,
by Dr. R. S. Fisher.
The skill and elaborateness of the workmanship
exhibited in the maps, exceeds any tiling of the
kind we have ever seen of American production.
The letter press matter of itself is worth the price
of tb > *rork, embracing as it docs, the most recent,
full and comprehensive geographical information
to be found in any one book. We find evident
marks of care in the eutire compilation of the work,
and have no besitatian in reiving upon ita state
menu and delineations aa the moat truatworthy
within the popular reach.

DAILY SOUTHERN RECORDER.
A Daily Recorder will be issued with the open
ing of the Legislature in November. We have
been at no inconsiderable expense in making ail
suitable arrangements to enable us to give prompt
ly the daily proceedings, and the paper will leave
by the first mail each day. We expect to have the
aid of our able and experienced Reporters of the
last session. Their labor in the past will give an
idea of what may be expected in our Daily. With
such advantages, together with the important sub
jects that must of necessity be discussed and dis
posed of by the next Legislature, we hope to issue
a paper that will he intrinsically worth double what
we shjll charge. A Telegraph line that will then
be in operation to this city will also enable ns to
give the news from every other section at the la
test moment. Let our efforts to accomodate the
public meet with that support the enterprise may
merit.
Price of the Daily for the Session f 1 in advance.
Post Masters or others, who may enclose to us $3,
will be entitled to a paper <jrati*.
*R. M. ORME A SON.
DAILY FEDERAL UNION.
The Proprietors of the Federal Union will begin
the publication of the Daily Federal Union, on
Thursday, Nov. 2d, and continue it daily during
the session of the Legislature. Tliev have engaged
the services of competent Reporters for both
branches of the General Assembly, and having had
some experience in the publication of a Legislative
Journal, they confidently assure the Public that
they will make the
Daily Federal Union,
a faithful record of the doings of the Georgia Leg
islature w ith the very latest Commercial News, Ac.,
and an interesting paper to the general reader.
As it is impossible to conduct such an enterprise
without a Liberal Su/>/>ort, we confidently rely on
the liberality of an appreciative-public for the means
to sustain it. We ask not, do not expect to make
money by this paper; we publish it because it sup
plies a great public necessity. We only ask that
we shall not lose auylliing by the enterprise.
Terms: One llollar for the Session, to be
Etid in advance. Six Papers will be sent for Five

The Briggs’ Patent Piano Forte.
J AVI nosr ready to answer the oft repealed question,
1 “ Wi’O makes the best Pianos ?” I answer unqualifiedly,
DKIGGs, PARM ALEE &, CO., oi New York. I have been
tuning Pianos 22 years, and claim to understand tlie instru.
ment thoroughly. I have been North expressly to ascertain
who makes the best Pianos. 1 have seen every part of the
Brings Piano, and several other celebrated ones, in process
of being made. The Driggs Piano far excels all others, in
taro very im|K>rtaiit particulars, viz: volume and sweetness
of tone, and capacity for staying in tune. The tone is pro
duced as much as possible like the Violin, there being two
sounding-boards convex outtvards. The heavy, thick planks,
blocks and braces are done away with, so a chamber is
formed for sound. Tlie power and sweetness of tone is equal
to that of the best Grand Piano.
The capacity for staying in tune depends on a newly in
vented Iron Frame, or bed-plate, which sustains all the
strain, and Is entirely free from the vibratory part of the
Instrument. Ttiere is a great improvement in the manner
of putting on the Strings, they not being liable to rust or to
jar at llieir bearings, snd in the arrangement of the dampers.
Tlie flanges, hammers, back catches, and every part of the
action is trade in a manner that cannot be excelled. The
follow ing is fropi Thai berg :
“Mr S. 11. Driggs—l have examined your new Piano
Forte, and cordially approve of its system of construction ;
its principles by which great increase of vibratory power is
obtained, being very simple and perfectly philosophical.—
The tone is grand and noble. It lias great capacity for sus
taining the sound or singing, and its volume of tone, or
power, I have never heard excelled in depth, purity, rnd
sympathetic sweetness. 8. THALBERG.”
Similar certificates have heen received from Gotsclialk,
Strakosch, Mason and many other eminent artists.
tir These instruments may be seen at Messrs. Virgins.
We are now prepared to fill orders not only w itli these pian
os, but others of a very neat pattern—four large round
corners, gothic leg., rose-wood, 6 octaves, so arranged that
pieces can be played on them the same as on the 7 octave
pianos, except on the lower bass notes. Also, 7 octave pi
anos, of the same make and pattern, wlitch we will sell sur
prisingly cheap The Driggs piano w ill be sold at about the
same prices as other pianos, according to finish of case.
I have the agency for the sale of these pianos for the State
of Georgia. Orders from any part of the State w ill be prompt
ly attended to. 0. II RICK.
