FEVEK AN I> AGEE,
Fliovi which mankind suffer over a large part of the i
globe, is the consequence of a diseased action in the
system, induced by the poisonous miasms of vegetable de
cay. This exhalation is evolved by the action of solar heat
on wet soil, and rises with the watery vapor from it. IVhile
the sun is below the horizon this vapor lingers near the
earth’s surface, nnd the virus is taken with it through the
lungs into the Wood. There it acts as an irritating poison
on the intern.'’ -m. era anil excreting organs of the body.
The liver be- rpid and fails to secrete not only this
virus, but ■ .. . o e from the blood. Both the virus and
the bile ar. izi. > the circulation, and produce violent
consiitut soriier. The spleen, the kidneys, and the
stomach with the liver, and become disordered
also. Finally, the istinct of our organism, as if in an at
tempt to ciji 1 ii, ‘ oxious infusion, concentrates the whole
blood of th- bai; . -he internal excretories to force them
to cast it out. The blood leaves the surface, and rushes to
the centra, or a s with congestive violence. This is the
Chill. But in ibis effort it fails. Then the Fever follows,
in which the Wood leaves the central organs and rushes to
the surface, as if in another effort to expel the irritating
poison through that other great excretory—the skin. In this
also it fails, and the system abandons the attempt exhausted,
and waits for the recovery of strength to repeat the hopeless
effort another day. These are the fits or paroxysms of Fe
ver and Ague. Such constitutional disorder will of course
undermine the health if it is not removed.
IVe have labored to And, and have found, an antidote,
Ayer’s Ague Cure,
which neutralizes this malarious poison in the blood, and
stimulates the liver to expel it from the body. As it should,
so it does cure this afflicting disorder with perfect certainty.
And it does more, or rather docs what is of more service to
those subject to this Infection. If taken in season it expels
it from tite system as it *s absorbed, and thus keeps those
who use it free from its attacks ; keeps the system in health
although exposed to the disease. Consequently U not only
cures, but protects from, the great variety of affections
which are induced by this malignant influence, such as Re
mittent, Chill Fever, Dumb, or Masked Ague, Periodica!
Headache, or Bilious Headache, Bilious Fevers, Ncauraigia,
Rheumatism, Gout, Blindness. Toothache, Karachi', Catarrh,
Asthma, Palpitations, Painful Affections of the Spleen. Hys
terics, Colic, Paralysis, anil Painful Affections of the Stom
ach anil Bowels, ail of which, when arising from this cause,
will be found to assume more or less the intermittent type.
This “Ague Cure” removes the cause of these derange
ments, and cures the disease.
This it accomplishes by stimulating the excretories to
expel the virus from the system ; and these organs by de
grees become habited to do this their office of their own ac
cord. Heuce arises what we term acclimation. Time may
accomplish the same end, but often life is not long enough, or
is sacrificed in the attempt, w hile this “Ague Cure” does it at
once, and with safety. We have great reason to believe
this is a surer as well as safer remedy for the whole class of
diseases which are caused by the uiiasmat’c infection, than
any other which has been discovered; and it lias still.another
important advantage to the public, which is, that it is cheap
as well as good.

Hostetter's Stomach Bitiers.
TVHK Proprietors and Manufacturers of HOETETTER'fi
CELEBRATED STOMACH BITTERS can appeal with
perfect confidence to physicians and citizens generally jf
the United State*, because the article has attained a repu
tation heretofore unknown. A few facts upon this point
wiii speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion
or blazoning effrontery. The consumption of liostetter’s
Stomach Bitters for the last year amounted to over a half
million bottles, and from its manifest steady increase iu
times past, it i-s evident that during the coming year the
consumption will reach near one million bottles. This im
mense amount could never have been sold but f.:r the rare
medicinal properties contained in the preparation, and the
sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections
ol the country where the article is best known, who not on
ly recommend the Bitters to their patients, hut are ready at
all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all casf3 of
stomachic derangements and the disease* resulting there
from.
This is not a temporary popularity, obtained by extraor
dinary efforts in the way of trumpeting the qualities of the
Bitters, but a solid estimation of an Invaluable medicine,
which is destined to be as enduring as time itself.
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters has e proved a Godsend to
regions where fever and ague and various other bilious
complaints have counted their Tictims by hundreds. To
lie able to state confidently ‘bat ttie “ Bitters” arc a certain
cure of the Dyspepsia, and like diseases, is to the proprie
tors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid
matter from the stomach, purifies the blood, and imparts
renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving it that tone
and energy indispensable for the restoration of health. It
operates upon the stomach, liver, and other digestive or
gans, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a
condition essential to the healthy discharge of the func
tions of nature.
Elderly persona may use the BHters daily as per direc
tions on the bottle, and they will find in it a stimulant pe
culiarly adapted to comfort declining years, as it is pleas
ant to the palate, invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a
tonic, and rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence
of thousands oT aged men and women who have experienc
ed the benefit of using this preparation while suffering from
stomach derangements and general debility; acting under
the advice of physicians, they have abandoned all deleteri
ous drugs and fairly tested the merits of this article. A
few words to the gentler sex. There are certain periods
when their cares are so harrassing that many of them sink
under the trial. The relation of mother and child is so ab
sorbingly tender, that he mother, especially if she be young
apt to forget her own health in her extreme anxiety for
•her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during
the summer season, the wear of body and mfnd Is general
ly aggravated. Here, then, is a necee-ity for a stimulant
to recuperate the energies of the system, and enable the
mother to bear up otider her exhausting trials and respon
sibilities. Nursing mothers generally prefer the Bitters to
•ill other invigorators that receive the endorsement of phy
sicians, because it is agreeable to the taste as well as cer
tain to give a permanent increase os bodily strength.
All those persons, to whom we have particularly referr
ed above, to-wit ; sufferers from fever and ague, caused l y
malaria, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, loss ol appetite,
all diseases or derangements of the stomach, superannua
ted invaliis, persons of sedentary occupation, and nursing
mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving
to Hostetter’s Celebrated Stomach Bitters a trial.
('a it lion.—We caution the public agaii..-,t m ing any of
the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for Hostxxter’s
Celebrated Stum ecu Hitters, and see that each bottle has
the words “Dr. J. Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters"blown on the
■fide of the bottle, and stamped on tlie metallic cap covering
the cork, and observe that our autograph signature is on
the label.
