Mr. Johnson noticed this matter in his late

This s atensent is due to truth, though made in

Messrs. I.a Roche A Bell, arrived in our
port yesterday afternoon says the Savan
nah News of Tuesday having run the block
ade. ( aptain Smith r* 1 ports that about ten
o'clock yesterday morning he catuu in sid>.t
of two blocl pries of ihiboy. They
immediately made chase after him, and con
tinued iu chase of him for some five hours,
compelling him to make Warsaw bar, which
he did, thus getting clear of them altogeth
er.
During the chase the brigs fired nine shots
at the schooner, but all fell short. The
Captain says if some of bis rigging had not
given away he would have loft bis pursuers
out of sight.

yesterday afternoou says the Savannah News
of the 2nd, for Virginia, bv the Charleston
and Savannah tram. At twelve o’clock iu
the morning they were met by the Chatham

rade ground, by whom they were escorted
tothe-niilraiddep.it. Their departure was
witnessed by a large number of our citizens,
who assembled to take leave of them and
wish them God speed.

Five millions only of the fifteen million Loan have been
callel for, and eleven millions have been responded to—do
subscription being at a less rate than par, and some as high
es teu per cent premium. The present exigencies of our
national crisis call for the balance ol this Loan, and we
have no doubt that our fellow citizens will cheerfully re
spond to tliat call. Let it be ’etittmbeied that, in what
they thus advance, they at e making an investment at 8 prr
cent per annum (which Investment is secured by a special
tinking fund, and that subscriptions may be made in any
sum from lirty dollars upwards.
We are authorised to sny that these subscriptions will be
received in this S ate in current hank notes which are con
sidered at par at the several centres of trade.
An abounding patriotism has carried, anti it carrying,
our brave brothers aud sons in sufficient numbers to the
