*ion.T at Fort Valley, on Wednesday last,
irro-t.-l Messrs. F. W. Stubbs, Curtis
Barker and Miles Rigsby, all citizens of
Houston county, on the charge of con
-piracy and violation of the enforcement
set. | The circumstances which led to
thes«! arrests are related to ds as follows:
A wiirr.int was issued for the arrest of
one ioseph Menard, on the charge of
stealing cotton, and placed in the hands
of the Sheriff of the county for execution.
The Sheriff deputized the above-named
gentlemen, who lived in the same neigh
boring i with Menard, to make the arrest,
hot they did not succeed in doing so.
Menard was afterward arrested by tlie
UniUil States Marshal, but on what
ehardr*. or with what result, was not
-t itcj to us. Upon the fact thnt Messrs.
Stubl)'. Barker and Rigsby aoftght to ar
rest Mcnanl, U based the charge upon
which they were arrested by tlie said
Joel It. Griffin. It certainly looks like a
very itmpge procedure; but we live in
a day ! wheli men, need not be astonished
