appear, but Alderman Burke was called
upon to discharge the duties of the
office.
8. E. Hold man failed to eome up and
answer the charge of |^ng drunk. He
had no forfeit up and could afford to re
main away. ‘
Dan Jenkins was up for fighting. This
was at the i instance of Dan’s wife, who
claimed that Dan had caressed her in a
manner thkt was not busbandlike and
bland, ahe said Dan struck her in the
eye and bit her on the cheek, and they
had a fight, right then and there. Dan
told a difficult tale about the matter.
Hd said that he stood all the cursing and
ubuae from his wife that he could stand,
and then took her politely by the urn
and flung her acroes the street. The
ease was dismissed.

foot crushed and was otherwise severely
injured, but not fatally.
Thomas Tidwell, fireman, had hi* shoul
der severely injured, ami received other
sever* contusions. He will recover.
Mr. J. D. Johnston, of Savannah, re
ceived eome injuries, which are not aeri-
ous. He left for his home la*t night.
There wore other* who received
bruiocA, but nono of them were hurt ut
all aerioualy.
The five who were worst hurt were
brought to the waiting room at the paa>
eengcr depot. WiUon and Tidwell wen",
home ; but the three others atill remain
there, ami it ia not thought that they'
will survive until thia morning. They
had competent surgical attention—Dm.
Hammond, Mettauer, Johnson and 8uas-
tlorff all being present. Dr. Johnson
came in with the wounded men, the ac
cident having occurred near hi* resi
dence.

Waterhouse engineer on the Columbun

The conductor on the Albany train was
Mr. A. Mathew*, and the engineer ws*
James M. Fraser. The latter, we under

The wreck was cleared off yesterday,
and both the Columbus and Southwestern
train* left, though tho farmer was half
an hour behind time. Tho wrecked en
gines and ear* will bo in thie morning.
Mr. Powers went down early yeeterday
morning and remained there during the *
