The reason why the flat truss and medicated
plates will permanently cure rupture—In the
first place, the flat truss holds the rupture or
wuuml together so that they are in position to
heal. In the second place, the medicated plate
being acted upon by the perspiration, slowly
dissolves or originate*, and its astringent quali
ties draws the blood to parts laden with fibrin
and the natural constituents of repair. Hence.

reived in knowing in what port the complaint
begins. In our practice we hare found medicines
of the most opposite properties to cure it; cspeci-
S in the first stomach. We have cured some
coses with on alkali, and others with the bit
ter astringents, combined sometimes with tonics;
and we hare found that in rtborir every case ner
vine* are indispensably necessary. \\ here dys
pepsia comes from the second part of digestion,
the liver and pancreas are the ports diseased.
We have treated over ooe hundred coses
dyspepsia daring the fast year, and over fire hu
dred cases in alL It is a very common coraplxii
and none but those who have suffered with it c
know its disagreeable and weakening influence —
breaking down the mind and body. How can a
disease that saps the source of life in the hum:***
system but cause gloomy fadings and debility
the body? The blood is said to contain the liu»
and this life is derived from food, through the
converting power of the digestive organs. Any
disease inquiring them must destroy the salutary
power of life. This disease is more common than
any one would suppose; its various forms and
symptoms are very seldom known.
Eating highly seasoned supper, sweetmeats,
warm bread, sour pickles and pork, all more or
leas cause dyspepsia; and the habit of using
strung liquors, and the use of mercurial and min
eral medicines. One of the most common causes
of dyspepsia is the intemperate habit of eating
between meoUand of going to work directly after
eating. The stomach has a right to all the ener
gies of the brain for one hour after eating, and
the person who goes directly to the shop or farm
from the table will, sooner or fader, find a strong
protest to such mrtiality set up by his stomach.
