Jrsiti whi.-pered, "And when He is come.
He will take o tho things of Goi and

and marvellous things out of God's law.
Promise after promise came before my

J lay there overpowerod by tho presence
ef J' Mis, who still remained, though I

While "lest in wonder, love, end praise,”

for his dwelling ill return for such won

Power to yield and believe was given. I

still nearer, nud 1 heard Abe words, “And

felt it on my face. A warming,

to move, then to turn in bed. I did no
without effort. Before it bail taken two

Then "Call vonr huslxmd." I waked

what He was doiug. I arose without help
and without effort and walked across
the room M-veral times, and gained
(strength while so doing.

up a dreadful howl of agony, and started
for the kitahsn. It was about this time
| that the man of th-.- bouse, who had been
| abed up stairs, came downstairs in pants
i and shift, to get some shaving water.
When within four steps of tht bottom,
he .topped on something which immedi
ately diaapj’Cared with astonishing celer-
I ' ity and dej. -»ited him on tho floor below
without the aid of the other steps He
got up on his feet at once, and looked
about for the cause of the accident. It
, was a cake of that soap. He picked it
up, and with wonJorful presence of mind
hurled it through the giaxs of the first
window. Then ho gathered up the shav
ing cup and brush, and went into the
room. He went into it just as any man
would who had missed four stops in coin
ing down stairs ; and lighted on another
rare just as he was about to kick the
door shut. That leg shot away so vio
lently as to hurt tho roof of liis mouth,
and he came down on one knee, with his
head against the bureau. The top of his
scalp was somewhat bruised, and one
drawer was without its complement of
knob*, and ho had bitten a piece from tho
the tip of his tongue, although no ono
Would have suspected that last by
the flow of conversation that followed
as he bounded to his feet- The appear
ance of his wife, with her face depicting
emotions of the liveliest alarm, was wcl
corned as a providential escape-valve for
the wrath boiling within him, but he
found his rage turning to astonishment
os he saw her suddenly change her mo
tion, and dash toward him with her head
down and uttering a hysterical scream.
As the instinct of self-preservation is the
loudest, lie immediately proceeded to
move out of the wayof his .-liding spouse,
when he encountered another cake of
soap, and was twisted completely around
and hurried headlong against tho centre-
table, and immediately acrosa her line of
march. What became of her or the cen
tre-table in the enub that followed he
cannot tall. He remembers when strik
ing the table of teeing some twenty-five
new planets, with a pyrotechnic display
in the background, and thinks he must
have hoard a million fire-crackers go off
under a laurel. When ha came to, ho
was abed in a darkened room, with two
persons whispering in a corner, and the
air thoroughly impregnated with a flavor
of castor oil. If Mr. Hatfield can obtain
reasonable board in Troy within fivo
minutes’ walk of the depot and post-
office, he will find it a bargain.
Hailstones as Big ns Xallkcgs.
Prom the Italia (Mi*) HotaM.]
Mr. Isaac Do Priest, of Shannon county,
called at this office on Tuesday of this
week and related to us the particulars of
a terrific hail storm which passed over a
portion of bis county on Sunday, October
5, and which has never boon made known
to the public. The storm, unprecedented
in the annals of history, arose in the
northwest corner of Shannon and traveled
itward. When near Pino HoUsw it
seemed to gather its entire force, and
swept down almost in one solid mass of
ice. IVm. Elwood states that several
lumps of ice were to be neon as largo ax a
nail keg, and that none of the hailstones
were smaller than an egg- They frozo to
gether in their down want course, and
when striking the ground emitted a ring
ing sound liko that of a crate of earthen
ware let down from heaven. Part of the
house of the Rev. Mr. Moore was swept
away, leaving a sick wife exposed to the
storm. It was with great difficulty that
Mr. Mooro succeeded in shielding her from
the hailstones, and even then at the risk
of his own life. Chickens and birds are
now unknown to the people of that sec
tion, having boon devastated and carried
away by the fury of the storm. Hogs
and geese were killed in largo numbers,
and in some instances cattle. The pine
trees were stripped of every twig, and
large bob's were in ado in some of them.
The gruu has the appearance of having
felt the mower's scythe, being cut off
closo to the ground. In fact, fuo work of
destruction was carried on with no slack
hand, and tho people will over bear in
mind the terrible Sunday of 1873.

An- extraordinary story comes from
Colorado of the discovery of a lead where
pure gold lies in inaas, plainly visiblo to
tho eye. This lead, or vein, was found
in Southwestern Colorado, in the San
Juan district about twenty-five miles
from Del Norte. Tho story is that from
tho first settlement of the district. Fre
quent discoveries have been made of gold
nuggets and specimens, but no ono was
able to trace them to their original bed
until the 18th of September, when two
men named Peterson and Brandt acci
dentally struck the load, being attracted
by the glitter of pure ore directly under
their foot. Tho discoverers took meas
ures to secure their claims, and then, tak
ing a few specimens selected at random,
returned to Del Norte with tho news,
which set the inhabitants of that
place wild with excitement, am}
led to an immediate rush to the new
dbtrict of persons anxious to secure
claims. Tho Denver Tribune says some
of the specimens brought to thnt city by
P.'terson and Brandt assay at tho rate of
hundreds of thousands of dollars to tho
ton, while others taken at random from
the surface of the vein, and which were
thought by the discoverers to be of little
value, assayed at the Mint as high as
$38,000 per ton. Unless some deception
has been practised in this matter. Messrs.
Peterson and Brandt have discovered
what is likely to proTe the richest gold
deposit in the world. Tho first of these
fortunate men is a carpenter, who came
to this country from Sweden when ho
was but fifteen years of. age ; tho other
is an honest, hard-working native of Hol
stein, who also came to this country many
years ago. Both now consider themselves
millionaires.

At a Cost cf $4 50 per Acre, Broadcast,
are induced to put up for sale our mixed chemi
cals for the Fall and Winter Crops. Tho Com
pound is made up of the same chemicals os
Cotton and Com Fertilizer, but in different
portions as winter crops will bear more at
Iating than those grown in summer.
Tho Compound Contains all the
Elements of Peruvian
Guano,
best grades. The Wheat Crop is such an impor
tant one to our country that we are anxious to
have our planters use this Compound. It will be
seen that it is even cheaper tlian Cotton Seed, and
is of great permanent improvement to the soil.
These chemicals not only last one season, but we
know of instances in winch they have been very
plainly perceptible on the
THIRD CROP.
The chemicals are all finely pulverized and well
mixed, haring been run through a fine scive, and
will readily permeate through the mass.
If it is not convenient to get dry stable or let
manure, you can use ashes which hare been
leached, or dry muck or rich loam. Sami should
not be mixed with the chemicals. Whatever is
used should be moderately dry. The chemicals
are put up in good tight barrels, well coopered,
and three (3) barrels hold 800 pounds net weight.
The price is $25 50, delivered in the depot at Ma
con, for the 800 pounds of chemicals, cash. Sixty
day drafts will be taken as cash. Orders may be
sent to us direct, or through any of o ir agents.
In our Fertilizer business wo ha\e associated
with us DR. P. R. HOLT, of Fort Valley, Ga„
and parties can be supplied with his Fertilizer or
ours, as they may desire.
We can aopply a good article of soluble Phos
phate of Lime which, when composted with cotton
seed and stable manure, makes a good manure at
a cost of from $10 to $15 per ton of 2,000 lbs.
