Arrested for Nlrnllng.
A colored woman won arrested ys- tor-
ilny and is now in jail, on the obtuse of
complicity in tho stealing of $.110, from
Mr. Frank Avery last week. Tho money
appears to havo boon stolon by a small
negro boy mined Jos. Jones, who was ar

Mr. Milno, at tho storo of Mr. George
Deggs, presents ns with quite a number
of bulbs. Ho lias a very fine lot of them,
including hyacinths, narciosua, iris j snow
drops and othors, that produce ths ear
liest spring flowers and the ..wucto it.
They are just tho thing for window and
parlor gardening, as with comparatively
little care one can havo very fine blooms
nearly all winter. Those bulbs or* very
excellent for foroing in glarsoi, and they
cost but a small amount of money. |
tiler :i lluralnr.
Night boforo lost a gentleman sqnt, in
hnste, to tho barracks for nn offifccr ty
come quickly, os a burglar was maraud
ing upon the promises of a neighbor. Of-
flevr Kimball was at band and wi>nt to
tho soeno of action ai quickly as a pair of
good legs could carry him. -Arriyind (here
ho found tho gentleman still on the watch.
Ths house wag pointed ont, and tic offi
cer vu told that tho burglar was jin the
kitchen tbat very minute, Kimball found
tho front gate open, ns if the thief were
preparing tho way for a ready escape if
discovered, and on going to tho fear of
tho building ho found the kitchen door
open and heard tho thief plundering
around, and making some considerable
noise while at it. With pistol In bno
hand arid baton in tho otlier, Kimball
took possession of tho door and! called
upon the thief to surrender. Hut that
burglar did not go there for the piirpose
of surrendering to any one rira; and
bearing Kimball's voice and seeing only
one m^n at tho door, made a ru-h there
for, and tho offiocr had barely rime to
get far enough out of tlie way keep
from being run over by a cow. Nil arrest
was made. t
The Mayor's Court.
Tho attention of tho Mayor's Coart yes
terday mornir -, was monopolised by
momliers of the Caueutsian race. There
was not a single colored individual on
docket, or in tho court-room, wh'ifli is so
unusual an occurence as to bo retuSrka-
ble.

tday, and mast men love to do notb-
; once in a while and will embrace ev-
opportnnity for enjoying
being a nabob—to eat bis
• in quiet and then loaf away the
ooa without regard to conlin-
m. No man has the right to order
this or that to be done. One owns his
own time on these days, and can be as
it4.)f*!*!ent ss though he owned half the
world and was trading for the other half,
fls can fvtd as he dees not feel on other
days in tin/ year; and though ho may
havo nothing more savory than bacon
and cabbugo for dinner, he can walk ont
upon the front stoop and pick his teeth
with os much complacency as tliough he
hail just surfeited himself upon devilod
oysters and roast turkey. The passqrs-by
will never know the difference.
However, wo are off the subject. We
merely meant to give thanks to Mr. Grant with 1,000 feet of leading hose,
for this day of thank-giving. True, we steamer is capable of discharging

for, unless it ho tliat bis party has not of

day ho has set apart for a holiday,
and if the neighbors are liberal prob
ably we shall make out an average
dinner. But if wo should bo com
pelled to stick to the ordinary routine of
corn dodger and “a streak of fat and a
streak of lean,” we shall cat it and bo
as thankful as we can. And we hope the
balance of mankind may l>o fortunate
enough to Imve as much of that diet ns
they ami their little ones can cat to-day;
though we very much fear there are some
who have not. Wouldn't it bo the right
kind of a Thanksgiving if all the poor in
/the city were put in a proper condition for
thanksgiving. It would bo a handsome
experiment for some one to try.
An Explanation.
We arc authorised to state that at the
tiino of tho failure of Messrs. Burr &.
Flanders, they owed Messrs. I. C. Plant
A Son about tho amount named in yester
day's paper (512.233 17.) but Messrs.
Phut A Son, at tho samo time, held $1G,-
000 worth of good collaterals. The pa-
ju-rs hove boon paid o» they fell due, un
til the amount duo is only about $1,G00.
To secure thorn, collaterals to tho amount
of three times the debt, are held by
Moirits. Plant A Son. Another paper will
be paid to-morrow, when about $1,000 of
good collateral will bo in tho hands of
Messrs. Plant A Sou, to be turned over
to tho proper parties. This explanation
is duo to Messrs. Plant & Son, us the orig
inal statement was calculated to create
tho impression that tho amount was a
loss to tho hank. Tlie gentlemen ore not

An Interesting Case.
' Tho Superior Court was occupied yes-
fterday in hearing the caoo of Augustus
'Warnmck vs. the city of Macon. This
is a snit for damages.
Our readers will remember that at
Christmas, in 1871, the store of Mr. Won-
nack.ou Cherry street, was set on fire and
lmrnod by tho explosion of Are works.
Mr. Waitoack now brings suit to recover
damages to tho amount of $10,000, which
lie claims to have lost by tho fire.
Tho case was given to tho jury shortly
after six o'clock, and at a lute hour tho
verdict had not been mode up. Tho re
sult of tho trial will probably not bo
math' known until the court meets to-

To the Honorable Mayor and Council

Gentlshsn—Owing to the great dis
tance intervening between our fire cis

each steamer company should be supplied

fire duty with twice that amount of hose,
and when it is necessary to take it from
one and loan to another company it occa
sions delay and is likely to prove disas

There has been no marked improvement in tbe

There is a general unanimity in tho opinion
that there isan urgent need of mutual forbear
