Ye*today was eapccially fine. The day
was clear and bright, the ground was
dear of dust, and everything else pro-
railed which was necessary to make a
perfect day.

Personal.
The Right Reverend J. W. Beckwith,
Bishop of Georgia, is in the city, the
guest of Dr. C. If. Hall. Ho will officiate
at Christ Church Sunday morning at
St. Paul’s in the erening. Tho Bishop,
we regret to state, is not in first rate
health.
Or. Ill of J udar W nil. A. Join-..
Judge Willis A. Jones, cI Lee county,
died suddenly Thursday night of conge*,
tiro chill. Hi* remains will pass through
Macon this erening, on route to Atlanta,
where they will be interred to-morrow.
Judge Jones waa a brother of lira. \V. R.
Phillips, of this city. He wad about
forty-fire years of age.
Wannsrk i«. (he City.
In tho caso of A. Wannnck vs. the city
of Macon, action for tho recovery of ten
thousand dallara' damage, the jury
brought in a verdict for tho plaintiff, giv
ing him damages to the amount of
$1,025 10, with interest at 7 per cent,
from December 25, 1872, the <latd at
which tho store was burned.
Col. Han. K, iltiglir*.
The report of the death of Cob Dan.
G. Hughes, of Twiggs, published Thurs
day morning, was incorrect. Hop. It. H.
Hill was in tho city yesterday, direct from
the residence of Col. Hughes. He loft
the Colonel still alive, but hopelessly ill.
It was not thought that ho coul^ survive
more than two or throe days at the oat-
aide.
lllrath »f Mr. J, II. Jnttiie*.
Mr. J. B. Jiujuos, father of Mr. 8. It.
Jaquee, of Jaqae* A Johnson, diod in Co
lumbus Thursday night after a pulpful
illness. His remains passed through
Macon last night on routs to Savannah,
whence they will l*o taken hy steamer to
Rahway, X J., for interment. Ono of
tho sons of tho deceased accompanied tho
remains. Mr. S. It. Jaquos will leave for
Bahwny to-night, going by rail.
Nunilny (Hinting.
By tho action of tho City Council last
Tuesday night, tho onlinanco requiring
barber shops to bo closed on Sunday will
hereafter ho rigidly cnfcrcod. This will
effectually stop tho practico of Sunday
shaving, and man who have been ill tbo
habit of postponing their tonsorsiLopcm-
tious until Sunday will now have to have
that oporation performed on Saturday
night- Thu shops will ho kept open until
midnight Saturday, after which they will
bo closod until Monday. This action of
Council was at tho instanco of some of
tho lending Inrbers of tho city.
Amos Hone Convicted.
It will be remembered that a negro
named Amsi Bono was tried some weeks
ago. on the charge of committing a rape
upon the person of a little ton-yeur-old
negro girl named JJeannotto Blister, and
acquitted upon n technicality—tho name
of tho girl appearing in tho indictment
as Jeannette (llotUr. while it was proven,
in the testimony, to be Jeannette f.nticr.
This was the only point upon Which tho
dofenso rested tho case, and upon it Bon,
was acquitted and released. II# wassub-
seqiienlly arrested, and was trisd yoster-
ilay u|*on the same charge, tho indictment
baring been amended. Tho jury brought
in a verdict of guilty of an assault with
intent to commit rape. the punishment
for which is imprisonment for not less
than ono nor more than twenty years.
The caso will probably go to tho Supreme
Court.
A Monkey Trick.
Benner's monkey claims propkiotorship
of the entire row of trees in front of tins
saloon where he belong*, and is outraged
nt any tnuugrr&rion upon his domain.
Yesterday a countryman drove iip in it
buggy and hit, lied Us mule to * limb of
one of the tree*. This did not suit hjs
monkey ship, who sat awhile upon lus
perch dcTising a plan of action. Tho
owner of the mule had hardly left the
animal lioforo Jack descended to the limb
to which the reins wore fastened end at
oaeo commenced a desperate shaking of
the Umb, screaming all the whilo "at the
top of his voioo," and kept it up until tho
wills bcsunic so frightened that ho broke
loose and ran away. Being not a very
fast runner, he was stopped about Mul
berry street and brought Itiok. Tho
buggy sustained no damage further than
liaviug the seat tom out.

Mr. J. F. Barfield, whose advertise-
ruoUt appears elsewhere to-day, war one
of the fortunate ono* who replenished
his stock after the pani hnd wrought
such a m'.utary reduCtaon in Non dork
prices. In mouther re.-p, 1 , t, too, ho has
been fortunate. tv,";.;h we opine good

the matter. Despite tho d, irth of money,
hard times, and tho gov,'rut .agnation
in business, lie has mot every tfote. prem
ise, and obligation without the doh^v of —
single tiny.
This clean record *n times like these
ought to enlist tiro confidence and pat
ronage of the public.
Mr. Barfield, it will l*o seen, offers rare
inducements to housekeeper* in thoex-
eeUeat variety and cheapoees of his fam
ily supplies. He will also famish ilressed
poultry and choice fruits to hi. customers,
and can. indeed, satisfy their every want.

Wrro a little more qn
but that whs probably ow ing to the rain.
The afternoon was clear, and then things
rammed their usual appearance.
The numt. r of turkeys devoured was
ttmitrd. True the supply was not very
large, but it equaled the demand, and a
few frisky gobblers were left yesterday
morning in the coops of dealers. They
appeared to rejoice that Tiianksgiving
was over, but did not seem to contem
plate the near approach of Christinas.
If Mr. Grant had looked down upon oa
he would probably l.ave thought wc are
not the loyalist people in the country tc
thus pay so little respect to his recoin
mendation ; but, in view of the proba
biiity of liis n,-"ling recruits for Cuba, he
would have laid very little to say al*uut it,
However, the day is gone, and pleas
antly enough to those who chose to op-
pr>-iate it. Those who had good dinners
to cat, eat them and were.thankful; those
who laid not very goo-1 dinners oat them
also, and were probably thankful that
they were no worse, and then all gathered
about the streets to talk over the “grape
vine” news from the sent of war, and
wonder whether or not Robeson has yet
taken off his pants.
It is all over now and we can only hope
that we may hare no last cause for giving
thanks next year than we have this.
The Mayor's Court.
Thanksgining day produced no visible
effect upon the Mayor's diurnal matinee.
Business yesterday was about as usual—
and the cases were of the usual type.
James Warren and Perzy Lewis had
high old drunk at a negro drnnkery
Wednesday night, and were boosted out
of the den, down a long flight of stairs,
into tho alley and the clutches of a police
man. They were soon in the barracks,
where they remained untU yesterday
morning, when they were brought before
his Honor and fined five dollars, with the
privilege of commuting to ten days labor
up on the streets.
Winslow Lundy, highly colored, was
arraigned on the charge of violating the
lioenso ordinance. He waa reported by
Mr. Stein, a Mulberry street merchant,
ns drumming custom out of his (Stein's)
store. Tho charge was not made oat
satisfactorily and Lundy was dismissed.
Fanny Walker and Matt. Lewis, both
colored, had on argument about a load of
wood on Thursday. One called the other
“a nasty, black, blobbcr-mouthod” some
thing or other, and the other responded,
“you’re another.” That last remark was
a clincher, and upon it arose a storm that
culminated in a fine of two dollars upon
each of tlw indignant females, but al
lowed them tho privilege of boarding it
out in tbo liarracks.
The Harmonic Society.
A meeting of the Harmonic Society
was held Thursday night at the store of
Messrs. Guilford, Wood A Co., which was
more largely attended than any previous
meeting, about forty being present, all of
whom were as soolous as could havo been
wished. The organization was perfected,
some changes being modo respecting the
officers previously oeloeted. Tho follow
ing are tho officers os tho list now stands
President, Dr. G. K. Sussdorff.
Vico President, Cupt. W. W. Car nos.
Secretary and Treasurer, T. U. Conner
Musical Director, Prof. B. Cxurda.
Chorus Master, Prof. A.N. Wnitncy.
Librarian. Prof. A. L. Wood.
Curators, Davies Tinsley, E. F. Host
and J. Monroe Ogden.
Arrangements are being made to secure
a hall for tho uso of the society, and it is
probable that Masonic Hall—the finest
roam in tho city—will be selected.
The society will hold woekly meetings
for rehearsal, to which, wo presume, only
momliers will bo admitted.
