“Wine Works Wonders.’
Tlio story is of a woman who did not
want to bo a bride, and yet she was old
enough te be, and had her father's and
lover’s consent, too. A very unusual in
stance of a woman’s disinclination to
change her name and condition and be
happy. And yet this story is faithful to
fact. A young German, up tho Big
Siouz river, has a farm, all clear, and a
good comfortable bouse and stock, and
everything complete for prosperous farm
ing. He had been working several years
for this state of perfection, and when he
gets through he finds nothing is perfect,
and nothing can bo perfect on the farm
without a wife for himself. He starts to
Sioux City, very much in love, and deter,
mined to take home a wife or perish in
the attempt. In town he gets acquaint
ed with an old German over a glass of
beer, and after several more glasses tho
two become quite intimate. The young
farmer unbosoms himself to his new
friend. Ho is a farmer too, and lives at
Ponca, Nebraska. Ho has a wife and
several daughters—ono old enough to bo
married, and a very good and good look
ing girl—so the father thinks and says
He likes tho looks of tho young man and
believes his story. Just tho thing. Ho
tells his young friend about tho girl of
Ponca—how sho is his daughter, and will
doubtless come to terms. Ho cannot
leavo tho city for Ponca until the next
day, but advises his prospective son-in-
law to loso no timo if ho would win a wo
man. The young man has como to town
to get a wife, and it makes no differenco
to him whose daughter sho is. He agrees
to the proposition and starts off for Pon
ca. Ho finds the mansion, sees tho girl,
makes known his condition, prospects,
business and desires, but the girl re
mains inflexible, and pursuos her maid,
on meditations—fancy free. No go—
trip for nothing—foolish to take the old
man's word—no timo to wasto courting,
and no wifo on the spur of tho moment
ns he had anticipated. Tho old man ar
rived next day as expected, and is aston
ished to find that his daughter xa not
wooed and won. Ho proposes to get up a
family party and go to Sioux City to seo
the sights, nnd tho stubborn girl finally
agrees to go, and tho father, wife-hunter,
and girl mako tho party. They go to ft
saloon to talk tho matter over; no uso of
talking; and tho young man orders a hot
tie of wine, Tho party drinks it. Tho
girl begins visibly to mellow. Another
bottle, and a little more mellowness.
Sho now begins to talk reasonably, if not
lovingly. Several moro bottles, and tho
girl actually fulls in love with the liber
ality of her wooer. Sho comes to her
senses—is her father’s own obedient
(laughter—consents and is married in less
than ten minutes after sho ngrccs to bo-
como tho farmer’s wifo. Tho young man
started with bis wifo up Big Sioux river,
feeling that his expedition had been a-
complete success. “Wino works wonders.”
It would surpriso most persons to know
how many pcoplo whose names stand
very high on the roll of tho Republican
party are speaking out their minds in
these days concerning tho administration.
Thcro is an amount of latent hostility to
the President existing hero which would
scare that gentleman if he knew about it.
I am told that tho President goes on
serenely bolieving that ho is tho fetich
which all truo Republicans worship,
morning, noon and night; that ho is es
sential to the existence of the party; in
deed, that ho is tho party. It is this
that animates him, and that iuakc3 him
so apparently careless in many things. If
I could report tho tilings that are said
privately by very eminent personages
hero—not Sumner and his set, but true
bluo party men who always seek the wel
fare of the party in all thoy do—it would
make tlio eyes of tho administration
smart to read this 'letter.—Washington

recommended, but nothing helped mo. I saw
vour Resolvent, and thought I would try it; but
luul no faith in it, because I had suffered for twelve
vesrs. I took six bottles of tho Resolvent, and ono
box of Radway’s Pills, and two bottles of your
Ready Relief; and there is not a sign of tumor to
be seen or felt, and I feel better, smarter and hap
pier than 1 have for twelve years. Tho worst tu
mor was in the left side of the bowels, over tho
groin. I write this to you for the benefit of others.

An Important Letter
From a prominent gentleman and resident •
Cincinnati. O., for tho past forty years well known
to tho book publishers throughout tho United
States:
New Nork. October 11,1573.
Dr. Rad WAY: Dear Sir—I am induced by a
sense of duty to the suffering to make a brief state
ment of the working of your medicine on myself.
For several years I had been affected with some
trouble in tho bladder and urinaiy organs, which
somo twelve months ago culminated in a most ter
ribly affiicting disease, which tho physicians al
said was % spasmodic stricture in the ureta. as
also inflammation of the kidneys and bladder, and
gave it as their opinion that my age—73 years—
would prevent my ever retting radically cured. I
had tried a number of physicians, and had taken
a large quantity of medicine, both alopathic and
homeopathic, but liad got no relief. 1 had read o
astonishing cures haring been made by your rem-
edie*. and some four months ago read a notice in
the Philadelphia Saturday Evening Post of a cure
having boon effected on a person wIk had long
been suffering as I had been. I went rigt. toff and
got some of each—your Sarsapanllian Resolvent
Ready Relief and Regulating *»iUs—and com
menced taking them. In threeda>. I was greatly
relieved, and now feel ns well as ever.

It is a genuine English made Manure, the only ono in tho market, and manu
factured by a company having a capital of $1,230,000, which soils 40,000 tons annu
ally, aud has tho most oxtensivo works of the kind in Great Britain, which have
been in operation 24 years. The Langdale, therefore, has a good pedigree ami is no
experiment.
It contains a larger proportion of chemical elements suited for tho promotion
of vegetable life, and especially of cotton, than any other fertilizer offered in the
South. It is the best nnd safest Cotton Manure in tho market.
Tho analysis given with the Manure when sold will bo guaranteed. There shall
be no mistake about the genuineness of the article, nor the good faith of the vendors.
It is tho cheapest Manure offered, as it contains nothing but what is of use in
becoming plant-food, or by chemical action on the soil, producing tho samo. The
test of cheapness is not tho price, but tho actual worth of tho article purchased.
Low-priced Manure cannot contain efficient quantities of pure and valuable chemi
cals, winch can alone give worth to a fertilizer, and bring satisfactory results. Tho
Langdalo is as low in price as is consistent with tho uso of tho best ingredients, and
a fair commercial profit on its cost.
Tho employment of powerful machinery in mixing and pulverizing the ingre
dients prepares every particle for service, and prevents troublo in using. The Laug-
dalo is unequalled in this respect, and impresses every ono who sees it a3 a perfectly
manipulated Manure.
In it3 composition and preparation it is tho result of careful scientific research
and experiment, confirmed by practical application for a quarter of a century. It
will bo maintained at its present high standard, and is thua what planters have
long wanted-a thoroughly reliable, and safe Manure.
