Btkon, Ga.. Dec. 81, 1878.
Sililors Telegraph and Messenger-. Iu my
article of the 30th of Deoember I advised
the farmers of the South to abstain from
purchasing commercial fertilizers at the
standard price the guano monopoly had
arranged. I did not advocate the opin
ion that fertilizers had not profited the
farmer, but, on the other hand, that it
would be advantageous to him to use
them were tho price per ton within the
limit of a living price, bat for a farmer to
pay five hundred pounds cf middling cot
ton per ton for guano, destroys the profits
we would derive from the use of it. I
did not claim that guano had been
profitless, bat that the prices the firms
were now demanding were beyond the
reach of tbe planter. And again, what
assurance hare we if wre were to aecede to
their demand now, that they wouldn’t
raise the price again another season?
Gnano is an artiole of commerce and the
price of it should be governed by the
laws of supply and demand. What
right have those guano despots to meot iu
convention and demand a fixed price for
their fertilizers? What would be
thought of the cotton planters if they
were to meet in convention and proclaim
to the world what they must have for
the next crop, of cotton, or what
would be thought of the Western farmers
if they were to fix a certain prioe for
their corn and bacon, regardless of the
laws of supply and demand? Now, brother
farmers, stand firm. Do not purchase a
pound of their fertilizers, unless they
sell at the same pries they did last year.
We will soon show them whether the
mouse has to go to the mountain or the
mountain to the mouse. If you yield
tuts time their ancoees will make them
arrogant and dictatorial, and they will
continue to torn the screw upon ua until
they press all the profits of the cotton
crop ont of our hands into thsirs. Take
my advice and I will guarantee that you
will get as mush gnano as you want at
your own prioe. Instead of them dicta
ting to the planter, we, the planters, wdl
dictate to them. I do not denounce the
fertilizers, it is the prioe I denounce.
Last year we paid 450 pounds of cotton
per ton. Now, the gnano dealers declare
that they will demand 600 pounds, and,
i* we submit, next see son they will de-
mihd 560 pounds. Plain Fab***.

Mb H R Stevens—
Dear Sir—Three years ago I was sufidriu.g ter

minister’s wife advised me to take Yegetine.
After taking one bottle. I was entirely relieved.
This year, feeling a return of tho disease, 1 again

Respectfully,

Mr H R Siivxns—
In 1872 your Yegetine was recommended to
me; and, yielding to the pursuasiutuftf a Irieod,
1 consented to try it* At the time 1 was suffer
ing from general debility anduerrous prostra
tion, superinduced by overwork and irregular
habits. Its wonderful strengthening and cura
tive properties seemed to afleefi my debilitated ;
system from the first dose; and under its per
sistent use 1 rapidla recovered, gaining more
than usual health and good feeling. Since then
1 have not hesitated to give Yegetine my mo*t
unqualified indorsement as being a safe, sure
and powerful agent in promoting health and
restoring the wasted system to new life and en
ergy. Yeitciice is the only medicine I us.\ an l n>

The following letter from Rev G \Y Mansfield,
formerly pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
Church, Hyde Park, and at present settled in
Lowell, must convince every one who reads his
letter ol the wonderful curative qualities of Yege-
tino as a thorough cleanser and purifier ox the
blood:
Hydr Park, Mass, Feb 15,1976.
Mb H R Stbvbns—
Dear Sir—About ten years ago my health fail
ed through tbo depleting effects of dyspepsia;
nearly a year later I was attacked by typhoid
fever in ita worst form. It settled in my oack,
and took th« form of a large deep-seated ab
scess, whioh was fifteen months In gathering. 1
had two surgical operatioM* by the best skill in
the State, but receivod no ]>ermanent euro. 1
suffered great pain at times, and was constantly
weakened by a profuse discharge. 1 also lost
small pieces of bone at different times.
Matters ran on thu> about soven years, till
May, 1874, when a friend recommended me go to
vour office, and talk with you of tho virtue of
vegetIne. I did so, and by your kindness pass
ed through your manulactory, noting the ingro
clients, tic, by which your remedy is produced,
By what I saw and heard Igalcod some con
fidence in Yegetine.
1 commenced taking it soon after, but felt
worse from its eilaots; still I persevered, and
soon felt it was benefiting me in other respects.
Yet I did not see tho results I desired till 1 had
taken it faithfully for a little more than a year,
when the difficulty in the back was cured ; aud
for nine months I havo enjoyed tho best of
health.'
I havo in that timo gained t wenly-flvo pounds
of llesh, being heavier than ever before in my
life, and I was never moro able to perform labor
than now
During the past few weeks I had a scrofulous
swelling aa large as my fist gather on another
part of my body.
I took Yegotino faithfully, ard it removed it
level with ilu’ ‘Urfuc-* in a month. I think 1
should have been cured of my main trouble
sooner if I had taken laiger doses, after having
become accustomed to its effects.
Let your patrons troubled with scrofula or
kidnoy dise&so understand that it takes time to
cure chronic diseases : and, if they williaticntly
take Yegetine it will, in my judgment, cure
them. With great obligations I am
Yours very truly,
