Biomudo. Gniss Again.—Oar readers
wil! remember the quotation from an
exchange recently published, which stated
that Bermuda grass never goes to seed
in this country, and caa only bo propaga
ted by the roots.
Since then we learn fiom Hr. W. B.
Johnston, that one of tho firetsnd ablest
superintendents of the Centra! railroad,
L. O. Reynolds, Esq., when that rood
wu in prooees of oonetrnction, imported
a quantity of Bermuda grass seed from
Cuba, and sowed it on many o! the new
embankments which had been thrown
up. Oar informant is of the opinion that
the seed germinated and took possession
of the toil, though he does not eiats this
as absolutely coming within his own
knowledge. We think it mare than
probable. The writer has, time and
again, MB the Bermuda produce a plen
tiful crop of seeds where it was well sa
on on old common, but never tested
whether the seed had germinating prop
erties or not. We should be glad to have
the question definitely settled.

The suggestion has been thrown oat
that the people of Macon, Brunswick
and Southern Georgia should unite and
tease the Macon and Brunswick Railroad,
completing the extension to Atlanta via
Covington, and then with the outside
help which would certainly be forthcom
ing at the proper time, build on to Knox
ville. This enterprise, if it can be car
ried into effect, woatd bs the crowning
stroke to tha prosperity of ths two cities
of Macon end Brunswick, for whose ben
efit the Mason and Brunswick Eiilroad,
was primarily projected.
And why an it cot bo accomplished ?
Certainly there is capital enough here
and in Southern Georgia, with that aid
from abroad which could be had without
doubt, to make a success of tlie under
taking?
The result would be:
First, another connection with Atlanta
and the desired competition with tho
Central railroad ta freight and passenger
fares.
Seoond, the development of the rich
oountiea on the line of route to Covington,
which are cow destitute of railroad fasti*
itioa.
Third, tho probable speedy completion
of tho Knoxville extension, which ere
long will givo another great outlet from
the North and West, and do more than any
otherproject on earth, directly,to build up
Macon and Middle and Soothers Georgia.
Then, Indeed, would wo have a healthy
competition for tho trade of our sea
ports, which could cot fail to place the
tariff of freights at tha lowest possible
living rate.
Wo mako these suggestions, which are
not original, that our people may con
Bldcr thorn. If it wero only practicable
and feasible, (and that is tho absorbing
question of the hoar,) to retain the con
trol of the Msaon and Brunswick rail
road, and mako of it a link in the new
grand outlet from the West and North, of
which we have spoken, it would cause
the “Central City of Georgia" at once to
rise to that dignity aud importance to
which she Is jnstly entitled by hor geo
graphical position. Wo repeat. The
continuation of the Macon and Brans
wick railroad to KnoxviUo and thenoo to
Cincinnati, in connection with the At
lanta extension via Covington, will com
plate the circuit of Macon’s railroad
system, and ensure her permanent pros
perity, together with that of her sister
city, Brunswick, and all of Middle and
Souihern Georgia.

A Curious Bird.—Daily Times: Hith
er A strange incident occurred on the
pi filiation of Mr. O. C. O’Neal, who
lives near Catania depot ou the Colum
bus aod Borne railroad.
While one of his hands was picking
cotton a few days ago, a strange bird al
most white, with a red head, dropped
down seemingly from the eloudr, into
the basket intq which the negro was emp
tying cotton fit’ 1 T" waiie’. The bird
was perfectly tame and made no effort to
get away. The negro called Mr. O'Neal’s
attention to it and he picked up the bird
and carried it home with him. For sev
eral days the bird ran around the house
and seemed to hs delighted with the
children. As O'Neal started out to the
field one day last week the bird jumped
up on his shouldn aud he oarried it out
with him, but while oa his way the bird
jumped down on the ground, ran along
in front cf him for a short dutanse, and
then suddenly flew up and oontinued to
go up, and up in a chart circle until it
was out of sight. He has beard nothing
of it since.
The bird was seen by same of the most
responsible cilUcns in that neighborhood
who will testify to the above fsols.
A Singular Accident.—Daily Times:
About three mdnths ago a little daughter
of Mr. A. G. McCrary was taken sudden
ly ill and continued to grow worse until
she had lost nearly ail her flesh, and her
parents had almost despaired of the
child’s life. A few days ego . Mr. Mc
Crary sought the medical assistance of
Dr. Stanford. He gave the child medi
cine, which caused it lo vomit and throw
up a button, which all the time had been
lodged in her throat.
Mr. McCrary informs U3 that the ohild
began to improvo at once, and will scon
regain her entire strength. This will
probably be a warning to others who
read tiffs notice, that they cannot be too
carefnl bow they allow their children to
have playthings which they can pat in
their months.
We are Sony to seo Mr. Hill taking so
gloomy a view of the fature even U3 a
possibility. Time has been when he
wonld have written differently; but yean
and tho accumulated cares of life may
have weakened the strong will and cour
age of a man who wu3 onse thought to
coart rather than shun opposition; and
now in the declining years of a long,
active life ho may wish for quiet and rest
not only for himself but for the whole
country to the end that : he may enjoy in
paaco the honors and ease whioh result
from well-directed and energotia efforts
in tho first flush of yonth and in man
hood's prime.

Gentlemen—I put on tho Pad two weeks a^o
to-night, and can say now that I am fully per*
suaded of its just claims to all its converts havo
said in its favor. How tho future will be I am
unable to say. For the first five days the effect
was so decided as to make me doubt my own
experience. I suppose I have opened a market
for a half dozen more to-day just for my opinion.
I think my Pad is working wonderfully, consid
ering I am in my ninety-third year, and my de-
rangemint of ten years bald on me.
Respectfully, LOVIO PIERCE.

Ague Cure
Is a purely vegetables bitter and powerful
tonic, and is warranted a speedy and cer
tain cure for Fever and Ague, Chills
and Fever, Intermittent or Chill
Fovcr, Remittent Fever, Dumb Ague,
Periodical or Bilious Fever, and all
malarial disorders. In miasmatic dis
tricts, the rapid pulse, coated tongue
thirst, lassitude, loss of appetite, pain ill
the back and loins, and coldness of tbo
spine mul extremities, are only premoni
tions of severer symptoms .which termin
ate in tbe aguo paroxysm, succeeded by
high fever.and profuse perspiration.
It fs a startling fact, that quinine, ar
senic, nnd other p-oisenous minerals form
tho liasis of most of tho “ Fever and Aguo
Preparations,” “Specifics,” “Syrups,”
and “ Tonics,” in tho market. Tno prop,
nrations made from these mineral poisons,
although they aro palatable, nnd may
break tho chill, do not cure, but leave thf
malarial and their own drug poison j-.'
the system, producing quinism, dizziness ■
ringing in tho cars, headache, vertigo, an<
other disorders more formidnblo than
tho disease they wero intended to cure.
Ayeb’s Ague Cuise thoroughly eradicates
these noxious poisons from tho system,
and always cures tho severest cases. It
contains no quinine, mineral, or any thing
that could injuro tho most dolicato pa
tient; and its crowning excellence, above
its certainty to cure, is that it leaves the
system as free from disease as before tho
attack. ,
For Liver Complaints, Ayer's Arch
Cure, by direct action on tho liver and
biliary apparatus, drives out tho poisons
which produco theso complaints, and
stimulates tho system to » vigorous,
healthy condition.
Wo warrant it when taken according
to directions.
