tinues In good demand and firm. Fa-

troduced on change to-day and made a
abort address, in which he said he had

crop of this country, ho was satisfied
the increase this year would be between
2.000 and 3,000 bales. He was glad to

before. He congratulated the city on its
enterprise in building a road to the booth
and tho whole country on its prosperity.

from Alexandria to Renter's telegram
company nays the reports of impending
hostilities between Egypt and Abyssinia

left Cairo and none are preparing to
leave, except one battalion which Gor

Oifico Department to-day made arrange
ments to place Steamboat Mail Service
six times a week on tho ronte between
Donsldaenville, La., and tbo month of
Rsd river, thcro to connect with tho ex
isting land mail eervioa up tho Red rivor
valley to Shreveport. The new service
will go into operation Janaary the tenth.
The orders are issued at the instanoe of
tho Louisiana delegation, who ,have been
endcavoriag to obtain this much needed
extension ot the mail facilities for nearly
a year past.

grand jury charged with embezzling the
bonds and money of the bank in Jane,

fixed at $5,000 in each. A capias was is
sued by tbobank officers, bnt up to a late
hoar Russell was not arrested. Bnssall
Is already nndcr $7,500 bonds for his ap
pearance in tho oriminal conrt in pro
ceedings instituted by the liquidators.
The grand jnry also Indicted Dr. H. P.
Wahl for attempting to sat fire to his resi
dence in Angnst last. Hia bail was
fixed at $10,000.
New Yona, December 6.—The bark

Cincinnati, Dec. 6.—A Nashville dis
patch iays Scott Stephens, a notorious

Depnt; A. D. Nicholson in the streets of

down with a brick. Nicholson draw a
revolver and shot Stephens throngh the
abdomen, causing hi- death yesterday.
Nicholson surrendered.
Vicksbubg, Miss., December 5.—The
report from Delta published in the
ObtcTvtr and telegraphed from New Or
leans last night, is pronounced false in
every particular. R. H. Brown, tho man
reported as hanged, was at bis homo in
Tollalalah, Louisiana, this evening, well
and hearty. The other cases reported
are on a par with that of Brown. The
election passed off moro quietly than hae
been known for years.
Bobton, December 5.—Three men
named Nowse, Lynch and BeBrdon. ware
killed in tho planing mill of Ellis Pack
ard, at Brocklen, Massachusetts, this af
ternoon, by the giviDg way of a floor,
npon which were stored five thousand
bushels of corn in bnlk. The men were
carried down with tho falling floor, and
burled nnder three thousand bushels of
tho grain. Before they oonld be extrica
ted, all were dead from snffocation.
