A very large matinee audience assem
bled at Balston Hall yesterday afternoon
to see the Willing Workers sad Mulber
ry Street Church children’s entertain
ment repeated. The same programme
as ca Friday evening wss presented, and
was witnessed with great pleasure by the
audience. The entertainment was pro
nounced the best that has been given in
the Hail by amateurs in the memory of
those who attend constantly. In the
Sleeping Beauty scenes little Misses Daisy
Badger and Ids Maugham were the per-
lection itself in their roles, acting with
the innocent naireiU of childhood and
tbs grace and accuracy of conception of
adults. All did so well we cannot make
comparisons, and the whole show was
pronounced an unqualified snooesa.
FREE DELIVERY.
Another step cf Era area i far Macan
The citizens of Macon will be pUased
to learn that the growing importance of
onr city has been recognized by tbs
Postmaster General, and that he has
consented to the inauguration of the free
postal delivery system in Macon.
Yesterday a telegram was received at
this office from Hon. J. H. Blount say
ing: “Ihe Postmaster General has
just consented to and ordered free deliv
ery service for our city."
This is a decided step of progress and
our people are to be cordially congratu
lated. The advantage* of a free delivery
system are manifold. It is only granted
to cities numbering ever 20,000 inhabi
tants, and then only when the income cf
the office exoeeds <20,000, except to such
as have tbo required income which the
Postmaster General may deem ap
propriate placoa to derive the benefits of
tho eyalcm. The income ef the Macon
office is between 926,000 and $30,000 and
la constantly increasing, and whils the
city has not 20,000 peoplo in the corpo
rate limits, the office is the distributing
point for,the mail matter of nearly 27,000
people.
Tbe thanks of the city aro oertainly
dee Colonel Blonnt for his untiring ef
forts to accomplish this end, and also the
Postmaster General, for granting Macon
the benefits of tho free delivery of the
mails. Tbe eystem will be inaugurated
yery soon. This is but an additional
evidenoe of Macon’s increasing prosperi
ty S nd her advance in commercial Im
portance. _
Brevities.
The Macon police aro busily engaged in
hunting Harry Byan; this, too, after
they have been formally notified that
Harry ;fs away np in the monntaina of
North Georgia. The idea of the Macon
police looking for a desperate mania too
funny.—Augusta Eeminj Neiet.
Yery funny indeed, bnt sot half as

Neics, had after tho absent majority of

Seriously Injured.
Yesterday afternoon, abont fiveo’olock,
serious socident befell Mr. Fortune
Farmer, an employe of the Central
Bailroad, near the freight depot of the
8onthweatera road. Mr. Farmer is em
ployed on the run between Macen and
Columbus, and had juBt arrived m the
oity on tho incoming train. Tho
train, os is U3nal. was stopped at tho
freight depot to detach some box oars,
and in nnooupling them, he was oaugh t
between tho beam timbers at the corner
of two freight boxes. He fell out
ward to tho gronnd and was soon reaohed
by parties who were near by, Buffering
greatly. Dr. P. H. Wright was oalled
to him, and with the assistance of sav~
eral gentlemen, he was carried to his
residenoe at the corner of Cherry street
and Cotton Avenue. He suffered groa t
pain, hat at last accounts was sleeping
under the effeots of opiates.
While an examination has discovered
no broken bones, he is thought to to be
seriously injured. We hope, however,
that his accident will not prove as seri
ous as was feared lost evening.
Art Ulustratlans.
To-morrow evening Messrs. Soderer &

We eannot say which is tbe best, tbe
most bssutifal of tho series. Borne. It
aly, the Bhine, Paris, London, the Nile,
and Jerusalem have passed in review.
Every subject is complete in itself; the
whole, however, form a tour of the
world’s greatest wonders in art, architec
ture and natural scenery. To speak of
Us intellectual worth, of its artistic ex
cellence, of its refinement, its chaste
beauty, is giving bnt little due to its su
perior merit. Never bos an entertain
ment of eqnal worth been presented to
oar citizens. AU parsons fond of travel,
of story, and history, by means of this
opportunity, will have them brought
right to their homes. This exhibition
oembinea all of these elements.
AnstAer Break Hewn.
Yesterday evening at dusk, as a young

wagon loaded with supplies, he ran into
the street railroad on Cotton Avenue, in
front of Cantarphen’s, and wrecked his

the wheels of the vehicle. The road
should either be taken np or covered crer
with earth, as nearly every day some in
jury is reported to vehicles.

But I am Determined to Do It.
—:o:——
_ We shall this season introduce a novel feature to the
citizens of Macon. In every department of our business
we shall offer goods which are positively worth
Two, Three, Four, and Even Five Times
the price we shall ask,
It is a principle with ns never to advertise a sale unless
we have something really desirable to sell. We Keep in
mind the old story of the shepherd’s boy, who in malicious
sport, frequently alarmed the village by his cry of
“ THE WOLF, THE WOLF !»»
The villagers ran to his assistance only to find them
selves deceived; so they resolved to pay no more atten
tion to the b#y’s alarm, But one day the wolf really did
come, then the boy cried out in earnest, but no heed was
given to his cries, and the wolf quietly devoured the sheep.
Now just as the villagers acted towards the boy so do
our people act towards those merchants, who cry out
‘'BARGAINS, BARGAINS,”
when, in fact, they have no bargains.
tTe believe it a false policy, and it is only because wo
know that we present decided inducements, that we urge
upon our people to inspect the goods advertised below.
Please take note of the following : Our entire stock
will be arranged in sections and so displayed that our
customers will be enabled to select a Present suitable for
old or young, at any price from
&3%=»Five Cents to Ten Dollars, t =^r
without the inconvenience of looking over the entire
stock. For instance, one section will contain articles for
One Doll&r, as shown by card.

The prices elsewhere of these goods range from $1 to $2.
And so on, from 5 cents np to ten dollars.
Bear in mind, firstly, we trust this novel sale at these
peculiar prices will not prevent the public from remem
bering that in all departments and at all times, we present
the most desirable, the most fashionable and the mo3t cost
ly goods money can purchase. Secondly, this sale will
under no circumstances, be continued longer than the
1 lolidays. The public are requested to examine other
goods of like character and compare prices
