-.iieir own prices The only sales reported to us, were
lUil tierces at #3jf, and 20 at Sijf h? 100 !bs.
Groceries- Business still confined to the wants of
city retailers. The following sales have been reported
tons : a small lot Bacon Shoulders at 7£ cents, and a
small lot Sides at 9£, at which rates holders are now
firm, with alight stock on hand; a small lot North
ern Gin at 31 ft) 32c; 53 bnls New York Whiskey at
29c. 15 qr casks Domestic Port Wine, and 15 qr casks
Domestic Madeira at 35c per gallon
Com —We have no change to notice in the Corn
market. The business of the past four days has been
principally in the retail way, and the article is selling
from stores at 60 (ft) 65c according to quantity, the
liberal offer of the Centtal Rail Road reducing the
rates of freight on this article to Scents per bushel,
will no doubt create a demand in our maiket, and our
country friends will find fair stocks, and can purchase
in this maraet on as favorable terms as elsewhere
Biggng. B,'C —The only sales reported to us of Bag
ging were about 80 pieces Kentucky at 14c. Ot Bale
Hope 12 coils Kentncky have been sold at 4c. 30at 1".
and 2'ial 5 (ft) 5Jc lb
Hiy- No wholesale transactions to report. North
ern is selling from stores at 100 lbs;- Eastern
at ■s!£•
Fx-hange— There is no demand for Steiling, and we j
continue to quote the nominal rale at cent prem. |
For Domestic there is not much demand at the present 1
moment. The Banks continue to sell sight checks on 1
New York at 4 premium ; outdoors the rates are easier. !
They purchase 10 day hills at £. and 60 at 1 cent dis, !
Freights— Our harbor is bare of shipping, and bust- {
ness is confined principally to New York by packets, I
Ihe rates by which are 20c per 100 lbs for Cotton, and I
50 ft) 62Jc for Rice. Two packets now in port and j
engaged full.
Charleston Sepl 6.
It will be observed that there is a discrepancy in the i
total amount of the receipts of Cotton in our general i
table compared with that of last week, which arises ■
from adding.s9l9 bales, the stock on hand at Augusta I
and Hamburg on the Ist instant to the receipts hi Si- I
vannah. and deducting 17,493 bales stock on hand at !
Augusta and Hamburg, September I, 1844.
Cotton—^ The Upland market throughout the week
|U»I closed, if it can be said to hdve beeen a rnarkelj
has been in a slate of almost perfect stagnation, as the
transactions do not exceed the sale of 361 bales, taken
at about the current quotations given in our report of
the Ist inst. to which we would still refer for a fair
criterion of the value of the article. The receipts of
the week aro 594 bales, of which ISO bales are of the
new crop, and the sales i n the same ti me are as follows •
3 bales at 6, 69 at 64. 34 at 6f, 2at 7, 22 at 7-'., 23 at 7j, ti
at 7jf, 7 at 7J, and 97 bales at Sc. among which 124 are
new, and brought from 74® Sc lb. A few bales of
white Sea Island sold at 17 and 20c; and upwards
of 40 bales stained do were taken at prices i aii"in<*
from Bto 15c \{f lb.
