2. Fine your blanket with a thickness j
of brown drilling. I bis adds but four
ounces in weight, and double the warmth. j
d liny a small India ruber blanket
(only Si 50) to lay ou the ground or to !
throw over your shoulders when on
guard duty during a rain storm. Most
of the Eastern troops are provided with
these. Straw to lie on is not always to !
be had.
4. Tlie best military hat in use is the !
light colored soft felt ; the crown being |
sufficiently high to allow space for air
over the brain. Von can fasten it up as j
a continental in fair weather, or turn it
down when it is wet or very sunnv.
5. Fet your heard grow, sons to pro
tect the throat and lungs.
(i. Keep your entire person clean, this '
prevents fevers and lmwel complaints in j
warm climates. Wash your body each
day, it possible. Avoid strong e dice j
and oily meat. Gen. Scott said that too
free use of these, together with neglect
in keeping the skin clean, cost many a
soldier bis life in Mexico.

Major Vmlersiui, late of Furl Sumter.
'The Southern officers and the South
ern presses are called upon, injustice to
themselves and their cause, to take back
the compliments which they have so
Ireelv and so generously bestowed upon
Major Anderson, as a brave officer and
a truthful man.
In a late speech delivered in Now
Jersey, Major Anderson complained
with extroimf*bitterness that the tire
from the batteries of the besoigors of
Foit Sumter was increased from cannon
and mortar, while lie and Iris bravo men
within were reduced to almost the bust
| extremity by the !lames.
It thus appears that M ijor Anderson
j is endeavoring to excite the diabolical
passions of the North by an tmeundid
and false statement of the events of the ;
stage of Fort Sumter.

quaintances. W. HANKS, La Pout, Ind.
Tlrs may certify that my wife was for some time
very much afflicted with a violent cough, wuich re
duced her so much that she was unable to enjoy a
moment’s rest, day or night, and by the use of one
hoit eof Peirv Davis’ Pain Killer, she was entirely
relit veil, and now enjoys good health. I consider it
I one of the best family medicines in use.
