Dr. mi Sir:—Tho Convention met this, nioriiing,

out any opposition, elected President. Tho Con*

nnd P. R. Eiilson, Door keeper. It then adjourn
ed to throo'o’clock this aftcrimon. A t tho last men

solutions were introduced by Mr. Echo]# of Coweta,
which denied tiro power of the Legislature to hind
thn Convention, nr to proscribe tho oath that they
tho members thereof should take, but suggested
the policy of such nn nrcorduoci^willi the prov'a'om
oftlic act of the Legislature; nnd then further sug
gested an alteration of tho Constitution in reference
to the term of ollice of tho Attorney nnd Solicitor
General, &c. Tho resolutions seemed to be incon

that the Convention disavowed tho right of tho I.c-

memlrars thereof, but inasmuch ns tho people had
impliedly assented to the proposition that tho Con
vention should not ineddlo with tiny other topic than
- reduction, that the members of the body would pro
ceed to take the oath. I nm of course giving you

tho resolutions of Mr. Echols,—but tho bitter gentle
man called for the yens nod on vs,—and the business
was brought to n stand in amseq'mtce of .'i * stele*

list prepared to cull tho yens nnd unys. Mr. I Illicit*
logs of Gwinnett, moved to lay tho original and suli-

prevailed. JuJge Berrien then introduced a reso
lution, that tho clinir should to-morrow morning ap
point three individuals from each Judicial District
to act as a rnniniiltee, to report upon some course to
be adopted hv the Convention to carry out thu
views for which it had assembled. The resolution
jxm passed. Tho house then agreed to he governed

tun tiumirrow morning.
I can form no idea of w hat will bodixie, or when
the Convention will adjourn. I think it probable
that the act of tho Legislature will come nearest to
the view* of tho majority. There lire a number of
very intelligent men in this body, nnd they ull agree
that reduction of some kind is nhsulutc'y necessary;
