SINGULAR OCCURRENCE
Fjyeburgh. (Mass) July 5.

half a mile to a neighbor’s barn,
procured a cord and a bundli
of hay, and carried them into
the woods at a conddcrable di(.

alcended a maple tree with the
cord *snd hay. After reaching
the height of twenty-eight feet,
he placed the hay in a crotch ol
the tree, alcended about lix feet
higher, tied the cord to a limb
and then (aliened it round hi>
ancles, after which lie swung off,
head foremoit, lo that his head
touched the top of the hay. In
this horrid filuation he awoke,
and with his cues, roust-d the

District, while aiding 'he Deputy-
Sheriff to take him with n bench
Warrant from the Court of New
berry Disstrtt, S. C. He made
his escape &nd flew from Justice
10 the State of Georgia, where
lie was apprehended for horse stea
ling, end committed to Washing
ton Jail in that state. From which
he was demanded by the Govern
or of South Carolina, and brought
to the Jail from which he has now
escaped 111 December last. A bill
of indictment w as prefertd against
him in F’airlield Court, at April
Term last, for the murder of capt
Feaster, and a true bill found by
the G'and Jury.
Shadrick Jacobs is about forty
or forty five years of age, about
five feet eight inches high, stout
and wed made, fair complexion,
light brown hair mixed with gray
(cut very short when he escaped,)
broad lace, lull cheeks, high fore
head, stnal nose, heavy brow, blue
eyes, rather approaching the hazle
sharp and penetrating, hi s cenmte!
nance betrays suspicion and fear
when spoken to quick, or on the
subject of his character ; speaks
slow and with caution, tolerably
masculine voice, draws Ui» Worc j s
and often gives to them a fiat
sound 01 tone, has a visable speck
or defect on one of his front teeth,

neck (die part not particularly re
collected) has also a remarkable

shall deliter the said Jacobs into
the Jail from winch lie escaped, or
one hurdred dodats lor apprehen
ding and confining him in any Jail
within 500 milts, and information
given, so that he shall be got on
application by iegal authority from
South Carolina.
