The Federal soldiers stationed in
Atlanta are indulging in musket prac

and fifty, two hundred, two hundred
and fifty, three hundred and fifty and
four hundred yards. The practice was
fair, but would do doubt have proved
more satisfactory if the targets had
been erected some where on the Mexi

were some of the murdering raiders.
Columbus Enquirer-Sun, 23 d inst.:
One of the Commissioners stated yes
terday that Mr. Thomas Blackwell is
suing the county for sßo—for alleged
sex vices as a witness by the State in
two criminal cases, for which he asks
$4 a day, $2 for each case; that he

jail charged with a serious offense.—
Afterwards he escaped from a bailiff.

Barnwell Sentinel: Now we will re
view the present year. Everything has
been planted in cotton, and it has been
gathered and sold ; or, at least, the
bulk of it has, and has actually brought
the grower, in many instances, less
than it cost him to make it. Suppose,
at the commencement of the past sea
son, our planters had planted more of
their lands in corn, peas and potatoes,
and bought fewer goods on time, the
result would have been as follows:
In the majority of cases your barns
would have been filled with corn, peas,
rye, oats, fodder, &c.; your store and
factor’s obligations been paid up, and
in a very short time a good stock of
hogs coming on. But that cotton 1
It is reported that many of the

to marry, and a whole railroad con

“THE BOYS IK OBEY.”
WE were wont to admire the boys who
wore the grey, though It was not for
the grey alone, but for the noble, chival
rous hearts that beat underlt. They com
manded the admiration of the true and the
brave in every land. But how few admire
a line head enveloped in grey hair and
whiskers!—very few. We all love admira

more calculated to secure it than pretty
hair. If old age, sickness or sorrow has
robbed you of it, you can regain it by the

OYSTER SHELL LIME.
The Cheapest and Best Fertilizer in
Use in Georgia.
'\TOTHING in the way of a Fertilizer and
.131 Renovator ot old soils has been found
equal to PURE OYSTER SHELL LI ME.
It is not only for one year, but its good
effects are seen and continues for eight to
ten years. Lime is greatly beneficial to ail
Gi am Crops, applied as a top dressing, and
also to Potatoes and ali root crops, and
should be applied in quantities not less
than sto 30 bushels per acre. For Compost
Heaps it is invaluable, and to the planters
of Georgia this plan of using Lime is speci
ally bring up our State to
the front rank in Agricultural matters. The
cheapness of our OYSTER SHELL LIME
will recommend it to every farmer who has
used fertilizers largely for the past few
years. Its value is greatly enhanced by its
long j ears of service, acting as it does for
years after its application has been forgot
ten. In soils abounding in vegetable sub
stances the manurial quality in Lime is
more fully recognized. Nitrogen abounds
in all soils of common fertility, but little of
it is available—Lime unlocks this store
house of Nitrogen and renders it readily
available for plant food. A splendid and
econo i leal compost fertilizer may be made
by thoroughly mixing one bushel of salt
and three of Lime, and let the mixture
stand six to eight weeks bofsre using. This
is specially adapted to using in drills for
Turnips. The choapness and facility of
procuring this wonderful renovator of the
soil ought to make it one of the first objects
of the farmer (who desires to improve his
land) to obtain it. Nothing in the way of a
fertilizer or renovator has been found equal
to it, as proved by the increased yield of
crops and permanent improvement of the
soil at a cost less, by far, than any other
manure. We are prepared to furnish PURE
OYSTER SHELL LIME in any quantity
