suffiication. caused by the accumulation of water
upon the lungs.
Mr. Fillmore, with his family and a few friends,
will leave with the remains early to-morrow morn
ing, for Buffalo.
The Ice Crop. —lce*cut'.mg operations h the
vicinity of New York have been discontinued for the
season. The result is that not more than from
one-third to one half a crop lias been housed, and
that portion secured is generally >f an inferior
quality. Sacking in thickness and solidity, and
consequently more petishable. Last year, the ag
gregate crop housed bv the New York Ice Compan
ies somewhat exceeded £00,0(10 tons. This year,
it will fail short of 100,000, whinh is the. smallest for i
many years. The concern most largely engaged iri j
the business, the Knickerbocker Ire Company, has !
secured this season only about 25,0C0 tons, against j
100,000 tors last year.

ployees, where the accident is the result of careless

British Annexation. —The Washington Vnian
has received from an authentic suttee copy of a
decree of the governor genera! of British India, an
nexing to the British dominions in that region the
large and populous province cf i’egu—the southern j
and most important portion of the Burmese empire, t
The annexed territory includes the several outlets oi i
the Burrumpooter, and ail the other large rivers;;
and some of these rivers afford easy communication ;
not only with Ava and the whole of northern Bur- j
malt, but extend to the borders of the Chinese do- j
minions thus, under British ruin, opening a direct :
trade with the most densely populated country on i
the globe.
Morganatic Marriages. —lt is said the Duchess |
of Oilcans is about to contract a morganatic mar
riage with an aid-de-camp of her late consort ; and j
also that the Countess de Montijo is about to marry j
Albany (Georgia) Artesian Well: —A company of
citizens have made the necessary arrangements to
have an artesian well. The operators arc on the
ground with the necessary implements, and will
commence work next week.

have reported through their columns, the existence i

to the citizens generally, by stating that the diseasi

tary Committee at Vi’luia, stating that there had

desirous of visiting that village could do so with j

It affords us pleasure to state that there has not
anew cate of email pox in Oglethorpe tor the last
ten days. There ate three cates in quarantine, el’
rnnvaiiscent —and will be dismissed in a lew days.

At three o’clock this mom in-, a fire broke mu
in a building on the west side of King street, above
Morris street. The fumes spread with great ra
plaity, and twenty bouses were destroyed before
the iire could be subdued. The aggregate loss i>
supposed to amount to $33,000 of which is Covered
by insurance in the Georgia Southern Mutual In
surance Agency. No liver were lost during the
fire.

Arrival of Niititn Anna.—Departure for Mexico.
The British West India Mail steamer’- Avon,”
on the 27th insb, brought among the passengers.

under the escort of several delegations from
the states of Mexico, who were commissioned
to invite his return, to take the helm of state
for the third, arid last period—one that is to be
fraught with neu- things, and good things- for
the diffusion of civil and religious knowledge—
and inevitably, by involution of American in
terests and American principles, which must
put their stamp upon this race, for their social
and political salvation. The General was treat
ed with :t good deal of attention during the de
tention of the steamer in tins port, and appear- j
ed in good health and mental tone, to wrestle ;
with a fast coming fate, when he left, the even
ing of the 28th. The authorities wore not back
ward in showing that they were deeply interes- >
ted in toward events, and the public. Govern
ment journals, shadow their feelings in the for
ward manner of annunciation of the arrival,,
and the prospective destiny of the Mexi
can Republic—endeavoring to create a return
sympathy unnatural and unreal, and impossible
of existence between the setts and daughters of
Despotism and Freedom—the first driven from
the land, with the sword and shame, that still
