WORK FOR DECEMBER.
Wo intikc the following Extract from
the American Cotton Planter and Soil
of the South :
The er< qi being now gathered and ev
erything housed, tho stock of the planta
tion should have attention, with a view
to there comfort, and the greatest econ
omy in making cmjjpost manure for the
next season’s crop. Everything about
the plantation should he lixed up ; such
as the gate--, yard fences, lots, and all I
tho yards preparatory to entering on the
woi kof another year. All t lie outstand
ing business of the past year should he
gotton together, and all accounts settled,
so far as may be in order to have the
business of the past year settled up be
fore the new year commences. And not
the least impo'rtant, and one that by no
means should be neglected, is your (('/-
riculluralpaper, or papers, as you ;nav
very well afford to lake two. The year's
subscription closes with December, ami
the new volume commences with the
new year ; it is, therefore, proper and to j
tlie>interest of yourself and family, that j
you enclose to the Editor Two dollars to |
have your name continued on his books
for the next volume.
From the Southern tin rut Gentleman.
* ‘ REGULARITY IN FEEDING.
Mk. Lorroit kind tempered
as you arc may not have ‘uxp&Tonced n
sort ot disposition like biting a twenty
penny nail in tvVb, when the hour tor!

know anything about this sort of feelimf, j
just remember, un animal is an animal, i
and nature will be fta'ure even ia a hog. i
Then feed ra regular as clock work
Make attention to feeding stock a sys

served, rain or shine. Stock will eat
less and improve more. Some will ask,
why is.this'f Well it may not he possi

stock man lives, wlio it? devoted to his j
work, bnt will admit it, and the doub * j
ing must take something for granted,
until he can prove, beyond all question,
that there is error. It is better, too, to
only give at a feed what will he eaten,
aud the stock should be left entirely mi
molested. Better to teed live times a j
day than thrice, and be’ter thrice than
once, for economy and quick *’ ’toning.
Hogs tod at 5 A. M , 12 M. and 7 I*.
M., will be near by in wait for their
feed when done feeding ; they may lie
down awhile, then pasture; but back
again for feed unless tho pasture is very
good, when they will not he so punctual,
yet call and teed, or teed and drive up
to the trough.
In connection with full feeding and
regularity, there should be a thought
how to vary tile food. Understand the
-object now in sight is to make the most
meat and do it cheapest, therefore time
is an object. If it can be, there should
be a variety of pasture, for although a
bog, stock will do well on

The proprietors nr.d manufacturers of IIOS
TETTI'.II'S CBLEBRATEO STOMACH BIT
TERS can appeal with perfect confidence to
physicians and citizens generally of the United
States, because the article has at tained a repu
tation heretofore unknown. A few faet3 upon’
this point will speak-more powerfully than
volumes of bare assert ion or blazoning puffery.
The consumption of Jlostctier’s Stomach Hit
lers for the last year amounted to over a half
million bottles, and from its manifest steady
increase in times past, it is evident that, during
the coming year tho consumption will reach
near one million bottles. This immense amount
could never liars been sold but for tho rare
medicinal properties contained in the prepara
tion, and the sanction of tho most prominent
physicians in those sections of the country
where (lie article is best known, who not only
recommend the Hitters to patients, but
arc ready at all times to give testimonials to its
efficacy in ail cases of stomachic derangements
and the diseases resulting therefrom.
This is not a temporary popularity, obtained
by extraordinary efforts in the way of trum

Hostetler's Stomach Bitters have proved
a Godsend to regions where fever and nguo
and various other bilious complaints have
counted their victims hy hundreds. To he
able to state confidently that the “Bitters’*
are a certain cure for the Dyspepsia and like
diseases, is to the proprietors a source of un
alloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter
from the stomach, purifies the blood, and
imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system,
giving it that lone and energy indispensable
for the restoration of health. It operates upon
tho stomach, liver, and other digestive organs,
mildly hut powerfully, and soon restores them
to acondition essential to the healthy discharge; *
of the functions of nature.

tlie advice of physicians, they iiave abandoned
all deleterious drugs and fairly tested tho
merits of this article. A few words to the
gentler sex. There are certain periods when
their cares are so harassing that many of them
sink under the trial. The relation of mother
and child is so absorbingly tender, that the
mother, especially if she be young, is apt to
forget her own health in her extreme anxiety
for her infant. Should the period of maternity
arrivo during the summer season, tho wear of
body and mind is generally aggravated. Here,
then, is a necessity for a stimulant to recupe
rate tlie energies of the system, aud enable the
mother to bear up under her exhausting trials
and responsibilities. Nursing mothers gene
rally prefer the Bitters to all other iuvigora
tors that receive tho endorsement of physi
cians, because it is agreeable Lo the taste as
well as certain to give a permanent increase
of bodily strength.
All those persons, to whom, we have particu
larly referred above, to wit: sufferers from
fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea,
dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and
all diseases or derangements of the stomach,
superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary
occupation, and nursing mothers, will consult
their qwn physical welfare by giving to Ilos
