ed to a third reading to-mor

portation of goods, wares, and'
merchandize to and from Phila
delphia and from Baltimore, by
the way of Appoquinimink and
Safiafras.

Three engrofled bills, one
entitled, “ An ad for regulat
ing the grants of land appropri
ated for the ufeof refugees from
the Britifh provinces of Canada
and Nova Scotia ” and one en
titled “ An ad, amhorifmg the
difeharge of Samuel I ewis from
his confinement and one en
titled, “ An ad authorifing the
tranfportatlon of goods from
Baltimore *nd Philadelphia, by
way of Appoquinimink andSaf
fafras,” were fever ally read and
palled.
Severally petitions were read
and referred.
Mr. Gregg, after fcvcral pre
fatory obfervations, moved the
following refolurion which was
read, and ordered to lie on the
fable.
Resolved , That a committee
be appointed to enquire into the
expediency of amending the ad
entitled, <{ an ad fupplcmentary
to, and to amend the ad, enti
tled, an ad to efiablifh an uni
form rule of naturalization, and
to repeal the law heretofore paf
. led on that fubjed, fo as to ad
mit aliens who were refident
within the limits, and under the
jurifdidion of the United States
prior to the 29th day of Janua
ry 1795, and who have conti
nued to refide as aforefaid, to
become citizens of the United
States.”
The houfe rcfolved itfelf in
to a committee of the w hole on
a refolution reported by the com
mittee of ways and means, that*
it would be inexpedient to re
peal the ad, entitled, “ An ad
to provide for the valuclcn of
lands and dwelling houles, and
the enumeration of fiaves—This
refolution produced a lengthy
debate, rather of a defultory na
ture, In which Meflrs. Grifwold,
Bayard, Dana, Champlin,Coop
er, Nicholas, Harper, Varnum
and Gallatin took part.
The committee rofe without
coming to a decifion on this rc
lolution and were then refilled
.liberty to fit again.—A refoluti
on having the repeal of that

exprefling in a very loud voice

Our readers will obferve that
the report of the committee of
reviial, and unfiniflied bufmefs,
recommending a continuance of
the Sedition-Law, viw approved
on Friday in the houle of Re
prefentatives by the calling vote
of the fpeaker. Since that vote
was taken three members have
arrived who arc decidedly hof
tile to it. No doubt can, there
fore, be entertained of its ulti
mate rejection. On this prof
pvSt we congratulate the friends
of the liberty of the pref>, and
the guardians ofthcconftitution.
